The polar bear population is obviously steadily declining! Hunting and global warming are two major components of this. I find the hunting aspect of this ridiculous, especially when people consider it a type of “sport.” I understand if it is a necessity to your survival, or required, but if your looking for a “stylish” coat or jewelry it is unacceptable. As for global warming, I think that precautions for this should have been taken a long time ago, and because it has taken so long for actions to be taken the animals are suffering for it. I agree with e.r. hunting is not a good reason for polar bears going extinct. If scientists are predicting polar bears will be extinct within the century humans have a short amount of time to help save the polar bears. Global warming can also be a cause for the evolution of polar bears, drowning or tiring after going long distances.

i agree with e.r. becuase i think that hunting polar bears is wrong even if they are abundant. they shouldnt be killed just because their population has gotten higher. if people thinke its a sport to kill polar bears then one day they are going to start killing people for a sport. i dont think these people would like to be killed and im pretty sure that these polar bears wouldnt either. i agree that its okay to hunt them for food but there are other animals that can be hunted.global warming is another cause of this because the bears are drowning and they cant just adapt to this environment or evolve back to the old one. overall i think that global warming is a part of life that we may not be able to deal with but we could control the hunting thats going on. and it should be stopped!!!

I believe that the main cause of decline in polar bear population is due to global warming. I think that we as humans have a huge impact on the situation and are not doing our best to help prevent it.On the other hand, it amazes me, that polar bear hunting is going on with no government intervention. I think it's stupid that people are killing these animals for a new coat or a new rug. I don't think it's right and I stand by that.

Global warming is an issue for polar bears because they are unable to find food and reproduce in the warm weather. Another important factor is hunting. People are hunting polar bears as a pastime or a way to make fashion items, which is inhumane. Why should the bears suffer just because a person wants a fur item?

jeez, what is wrng with these people, first its just a few pola bears, now they are close to extinction. Anyone who kills a polar bear is a monster. that is everyone. Sure, we are not hunting them, but we are polluting. and that changes the arctic environment, it takes too long too evolve for them to be able to adapt so they will al die. it is horrible. hunting is just wrong, why do you need to hunt things, its pointless, you can farm or fish since the fish and land arent going anywhere soon, but most of the worlds species are becoming extinct because somebody wants a stylish new coat.

This whole "lets kill for sport thing" needs to stop now! that is sickening-to kill for enjoyment! Any hunters who kill for frivolous needs should be ashamed of themselves! I understand if you are dying and you need food and your only option is to hunt. But other than that, I'm sure everyone can live without a designer polar bear coat! Have you ever heared of faux fur...???
So for this whole global warming issue, I think that we as humans with developed brains need to take action and help the polar bears. We are totally taking advantage of being on top of the food chain! I'm sure we can all help a little to reduce global warming. Is aerosol hairspray really necessary? Normal hairspray works just fine!
Lets also stop poluting since we are on a roll with helping the world! I'm sure the polar bears would appreciate that too!
Lets get Polar Bears on the endangered species list. That will definately increase awareness. The government needs to step in and stop this "killing for sport"-it is so cruel!

i think the decrease in population of polar bears is due to global warming. global warming is ruining the seasons and throwing everything out of the loop. polar bears depend on the cold weather to live, because of global warming.. its warm in there regions and they cant survive. our seasons are all backwards and the polar bears dont have any time to even attempt to adapt.

i think this is a horrible thing thats happening to the polar bears! becasue of global warming the ice is mellting causeing the polar bears to swim long didtances. they can swimm across much ocean but not enough to get them acroos to the next ice cap. global warming is also affecting our weather its been hot in january and december. THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!!!

I think that polar bears are becoming extinct from both being hunted andfrom results of global warming. I can understand why people like hunting, but when that animal is extinct doesn't make any sense. They could just kill something else.But I also think that hunting is not the main reason for their extinction. Global warming has a major impact on their lives. It has caused them to move further inland and because of that they wander through more towns. People have thought their poplulation has increased because of this and they had competitions to lower the "overpopulation" of polar bears. I think that global warming is definantly the biggest problem for the declining polar bears.Not only are they being killed from their own environment,but hunting them for/as trophies is never the right thing to do.Who wears polar bear?thats what i would like to know.Anyway,global warming is just something we all are going to have to live with.But i think hunting polar bear for sport should be stopped

i believe that the polar bear population is steadily declining, along with the population's of other arctic animals as well. i have reason to think that the main cause for this decrease in polar bear survival is due to global warming. i just heard a report about how the temperature in antarctica has risen three degrees in the past couple of years, and this is the reason why there are less glacial caps and ice.
first, i have to explain why the ice is so vital towards the polar bear's survival.
seals, which are a main staple in a polar bear's diet, can't breathe underwater, so they need to come up for air. they go to holes in the ice to do so. the polar bears use these holes to their advantage. when the seal comes up for air, the bear launches itself into the hole in an attempt to catch the seal. this ambush using ice is usually effective.
.....now.....
if the ice is melting, seals have a HUGE area to come up for air, so the chances for a polar bear to catch a meal dramatically decreases. if the polar bears can't eat, they can't survive the harsh winters, or provide their young with enough nurishment.
this ripple effect is due to global warming, but im not saying that global warming is the only cause for the polar bear's decline.
there have certainly been attempts to poach this animal for its fur, which i think is absolutely disgusting, i mean people can use faux fur can't they?! i learned in ap that in africa, if poachers are caught, they are shot on sight. that may be a little cruel, but it is an effective system.
all in all, i think the polar bears aren't gonna be the only animals that will be effected by humans.

ok first of all yes global warming is a problem that is affecting the polar bears. However people are making it out to be the main cause of polar bears declining. Yes global warming exists but it happens slowley. especially this year but people need to understand that we got snow so late because of EL NINO. but back on topic yea polar bears are dying because of it. but if they are meant to survive that they will evolve into like sea polar bears so they can swim (lqtm that would be so cool). In my opinion it is probably more of hunting that is killing the polar bears rather than global warming. Yes i guess you can say hunting is bad but if you are gonna use whatever you killed then good for you. but killing just to kill is wrong

i agree with the majority. hunting polar bears as if it were a sport is ridiculous.. even more-so that a trophy has even been rewarded for such a thing. also, if it's a necessity, which to me would be a rare circumstance, i think killing one would be fine. BUT, just for the fun of it shouldn't be allowed. To me, hunting is definitely the larger cause of polar bear death as opposed to global warming.

I think that both hunting and global warming are the main reasons that the polar bear population is declining. However, I believe that we (humans) could easily end the hunting problem, and I really don't understand why we haven't yet. It'd be a fairly simple matter to make hunting polar bears illegal. Global warming, on the other hand, isn't so easy to fix. We've been trying to do just that for quite a while now, with little gain. Unfortunately, global warming is slightly more destructive to polarbears than hunting is, in my opinion anyway.

People are sick. How could they get enjoyment out of killing these adorable creatures, and to think it's a sport?! I agree with mister -The government should set strict regulations on the protection of these animals.


As for global warming...
It is very upsetting to think that these innocent creatures are struggling while they swim trying to get there food as the ice melts, then just dieing. Global warming is a huge problem for the polar bears. Sadly, it is very hard to help them because we can't control it BUT WE CAN CONTORL THIS HUNTING AND IT NEEDS TO STOP NOW
