Chocolate: A new health food!!?!

Link to an article

Statement One:
Chocolate is a popular sweet tasting food that the world has loved for centuries. Chocolate contains over 300 chemicals such as Cacao, which contains antibacterial agents that fight against tooth decay and ethylamine, which is a mild mood enhancer. As you can see, just because chocolate tastes so good doesn’t mean that it’s completely bad for you. Hot chocolate is believed to reduce appetite and to be good with dieting. Some say that dark chocolate is better for you than milk chocolate because it does not contain all the sugars and fats and whatnot. In studies, people were given 22 grams of cocoa and 16 grams of dark chocolate every day. Their LDL or bad cholesterol was less at risk for oxidation which proves that coca could help.

Statement Two:
Chocolate is found to do all sorts of good things but some negatives is that chocolate is high in calories, saturated fats and sugar as you well know. Scientists say that even dark chocolate, is high in calories and will not help with dieting.

Tasks:
One: Good or Bad? Is chocolate more healthy than unhealthy, or vice versa? Why do you think this?
Two: Would you use chocolate for dieting? Why or why not?
Three: Give a link supporting your ideas and opinions.
Four: What’s your favorite chocolate and why? =D

The test, the counselor said, had come back positive.

Katharine Moser (23 years of age) inhaled sharply. She thought she was as ready as anyone could be to face her genetic destiny. She had attended a genetic counseling session and visited a psychiatrist, as required by the clinic. She had undergone the recommended neurological exam. And yet, she realized in that moment, she had never expected to hear those words.
“What do I do now?” Ms. Moser asked.

Huntington's Disease , is an incurable brain disorder, a disease of the CNS. It can now be detected by a relatively simple genetic test. Increasingly, the science of medicine is finding a genetic link, and an exact chromosome location for many "diseases," "syndromes," "disorders," and "illnesses." Is that a good thing?

Lorenzo’s Oil
When does it cross the line?

Recently in class we watched the movie Lorenzo’s Oil, now you get to think.
Lorenzo was treated with a diet that ended up hurting him more than it helped him which resulted in his sickness getting worse.

1. At some point in all experimental treatments the medical industry crosses the line. When does a patient turn from being helped to becoming a lab rat?

2. Lorenzo was sick but his parents kept him fighting for his life in his hospital while other families took their children off of their medication and let them die, saying that they did the right thing by not letting their child suffer for the rest of their lives. Who is right and why are they right?

3. If your child was sick with Adrenoleukodystrophy, (ALD) and was suffering, what would you do? Would you keep your child in the hospital and continue the treatment and testing’s? Or would you let your child die “peacefully”?

Task One: Answer the three questions above.
You don’t need a link since it is an ethics question.

Task Two: Explain why you chose what you did, how you came to your decision or opinion and relate it to the movie Lorenzo’s Oil in some way.

Happy Blogging. =^_^=
