Topics and Links Period One
Comments:
My topic related to Biology is pollution. Pollution has always been a problem since factories became popular.

These are my two links about pollution. I think pollution is a problem that has to be stopped.

Animal drug experimentation is used to test drugs that could eventually cure us. Sometimes the drugs are very harmful to the lab animals and kill them off. Should animal drug testing be allowed??

I do not think animal drug testing should be allowed because it can hurt the animals. Not only is it harmful to the animals sometimes but it can also be inefficient. How can a scientist base something on a rat's reaction to a drug?? The rat's anatomy is very different form ours.

i think ill go with the topic of rain forest cutting.many rain forests have been cut down. many are still being cut down and mostly for homes. these rain forests contain many species that haven't even been discovered yet. they also might have many cures for the many diseases that are out there. so i basically think that people shouldnt be cutting down rain forests.

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/03/13/asia/AS-GEN-China-Tigers-Ban.php

My link is about whether or not China should lift the ban on the trade of animal parts. I completely agree with the article, that the ban should not be lfted.

I knew exactly what I would chose, based on my science project. Global Warming. I got a lot of mixed signals from this topic...some say true, and some say false. Well, what do you think?

www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/default.asp
^ this site represents the fact that global warming is true, and what we can do to stop it.

www.oism.org/news/s49p1354.htm
^ this site claims it is false.

I think that the warnings of global warming should be taken into consideration, and are true. I'd rather be prepared, then not.

Well,my topic is about human euthanasia, and how it should be used.

Most people think it should absolutly never be used on a human being, but i for one think it is neccisary. If i am ever put in a vegetated state,i would without a doubt want to be euthanised. So,i think that people should have that decision. somewhere on medical documents a patient should be able to sign whether or not the would choose euthanasia. That would prevent any discussion for the family to decide what to do.

http://teenink.com/Past/1998/9310.html

There were plenty of websites that said "human euthanasia is wrong, just like abortion"...but really now,i think both are needed. If people were more open minded, then maybe others could have their rights.

ok i no every student has this problem:
procrastination

i think that as we get older, we have more interesting things to do rather than do chores...or hw...so it's natural for us to put doing those things off until the last minute...or is it? maybe some of us procrastinate a little TOO much? maybe its become a cyclic habit? is procrastination a biological problem?? are some kids unable to resist doing ANYTHING else than wat they're supposed to be doing? ..maybe.. i think this topic IS techinically related to biology cuz its happening to every HUMAN being so therefore its biological AND psychological ^-^ yay loophole

this link gives you an overview on GOOD and BAD procrastination...so its both of the link thingies in one =]:

My topic is on how early in the day school should begin. Would students perform better in school if they woke up later? When do you think school should start?

I personally believe that school should begin later because kids are too tired otherwise. This would allow students to be more attentive and do better in school.

^^both of these links are in favor of school starting later in the morning. Surprisingly, I was not able to find any sites that supported early school starting times.

My blog is about Hydrogen as an alternate fuel source-

Hydrogen is a very enviorment friendly alternate to gasoline. It doesnt contribute to the green house effect because it has enviorment friendly biproducts. However, hydrogen is extremely flammable and it is dangerous.

I think that hydrogen fuel is a really great idea. i think that the "highly flammable aspect" could be altered with a product of some sort to make the hydrogen safe and not dangerous. With more research and looking in to, i think the idea of hydrogen could become a reality. Many people say "the hydrogen idea" will not become a reality for a while though. There is still alot more work to do before hydrogen cars become the new alternative.

All 3 of these sites have pros and cons...

To Slippers, i say DRIVEWAY! (no one will get it but kaitlyn)

My topic is mood "enhancing" drugs, such as antidepressants. These drugs have been controversial for many reasons. They have been linked to increased rates of suicide, which they are usually given to prevent. I believe that they should be given only in drastic cases in which there are few other options. Many say that the drugs don't actually work, people just believe they do, therefore their mood changes. It is only psychological.

MY topic is evolution...

some people believe that people evolved from an animal. but others believe we are the sons and daughter of Adam and Eve

okay well i had some trouble with this but i think i got an interesting one!

1) http://poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070304/NEWS06/703040354/1010

this article talks about foods having a higher fat content are better for women who are trying to get pregnant. lower fat dairy products may increase the risk of infetility problems.

2)http://www.dairyreporter.com/news/ng.asp?id=74581-low-fat-dairy-infertility-study

this article supports this idea. two or more servings of low fat dairy has given women 85% more of a risk to problems. the low fat causes lack of ovulation. women who ate at least one serving of a higher fat dairy decreased their risk by about 27%.

i guess if you are planning to get pregnant, eating higher fat foods is the way to go! butttt maybe not? =)

For a unified nation we are still different individuals with different relidious ideas. Many people in our country are against saying the pledge of allegience due to the phrase "under god" that is in it.

My opinion is that we should not change it. People do not beleive in god, yes, but they do not have to say that part of the pledge. Plus there are many other places where the word God pops up. The few places is on our coins and even in our national anthem. It is also similar to putting your hand on the bible before swearing to something...that is what many presidents have done. These daily things have God "involved" in them and if we are just noticing then I am sure that we have far bigger issues than trying to convince the government to change the pledge to its origianl status.

site that has people signing a petetion and SOME have reasons that can be interesting as to why we shouldnt change the pledge
-grrr....i have found websties...but it wont allow me to post them so im just emailing mr johnson the site

this is a petition where it says reasons why we should change the pledge
....and again...this is frustrating...

hi again...
i dont think it is that obvious as to how i came up with the topic and how it is related to bio....well that is part of religion obviously and part of a social issue...which are both part of life and bio is life by definition...

my topic is how text messaging is said to be hurting peoples' thumbs and wrists. it's related to biology in that it falls under orthopedics and the human skeleton.

I think that this could be true. I text way too much and I know it. The way we put so much pressure on our thumbs when texting very much supports what people are saying about how texting may result in injury.

http://www.esato.com/archive/t.php/t-116174

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/02/22/text_injury/

I couldn't find links that opposed this idea, so I found links that also said texting has resulted in injury for millions.

my article talks about how it rained a red substance over kerala in west india. They say that this could be signs of extra-terrestrial life. I dont think that it could be a sign of aliens. There was probably somthing else that had to do with that and caused it.
