1. The athlete is out of the running...he is going to die from hiv/aids anyway...harsh, but true!
2. I think we need some further information!

The Scientist...
-was the scientist totally working on her own?
-can the scientist have a really long discussion with a fellow scientist sharing all her thoughts and information?
-How close was she to finding the cure for cancer?
welll...i guess if she was really close, by saving her life you would be saving thousands of other lives....but lets not jump the gun...I still need to review my other choices!

The little girl...
-she has her whole life to live...thats soo sad
-for all we know, she could become the forst woman president!hmmmm...

40 year old man...
-welll...being the single father, do you think it was the best idea to become an alchoholic???hmmmm....ya, bad decision buddy!
-Are there any close relatives that could take care of the children?
-It would be sad for the children to be orphans...tear

This is really tough!
by not knowing the answers to any of my questions, I dont know that I can make a fair choice.
Then again...life is not fair.
And I have to make a choice...sooooo.....
i'm going to say the scientist...just because she could be saving many other lives....
hmmm...but the word "could" is amking me unhappy with my decision...

Well, obviously the athlete would be the last person to get the kidney. He already has HIV so he has a big chance of dieing anyways.

The rest of my choices make my decision much harder. The 40 year old man has 3 kids. What slippers said was true, he should of thought twice about becoming an alcoholic...not a good idea with 3 children. So i guess he would be out too because the little girl and th scientist didn't do anything bad and probably deserve the kidney more.

Now this is the hard part. Both of these people didn't do anything. One has a full life ahead of them, the other may find the cure for cancer and save many peoples lives. Let's see whats more important. Saving one life or many lives? If the scientist is close to finding the cure for cancer then i think she should be the one to get the kidney because then that means more lives could be saved...not just one.
 

soooo....i dont know its a very hard decision...hmmm

the first person i would eliminate is the athlete because we have so many of them and he is probably going to die of HIV....yup its getting harsh already but someone cant get the kidney...

okay so the next person i would probably eliminate is the 40 year old guy that is an alcoholic because he is very wealthy and his children could probably survive on his money...like slippers and kayo said....its his fault he became an alcoholic....

this leaves me to two conclusions...between the little girl and the old scientist...but if the lady finds the cure it could save many lives and not just the little girl's....sooo even though the little girl has a life ahead of her i think the scientist should be the one to get the kidney....

that was a hard one mr.johnson.....and if the scientist doesnt get the cure i just might go crazy....hahahahhahaha.....sooo thats my decision...

- He has HIV...so giving him a kidney is just not an option in my opinion.

- Call me mean,but i dont like children,and so that influences my decision on her...and it is that she is gonna die!
-If my child had "sudden" kidney failure,i would next start to worry about other aspects of their health.who is to say that she wont have a "sudden" heart attack hmm?
-She might have a long life ahead of her...or she might die during surgery..what is scenarios are fun arent they?
-Who is to say she wont grow up and be a rebel...shooting people in there kidneys?
- Slippers,you said she could be the next female president? she could also cause the apocalypse...so there

40 Year Old Single Parent

-well,ill give him props for being a recovering alcoholic,but has he completely stopped?cause on the power point...he was drinking himself into a coma..
-And on a side note...children survive fairly well in orphanages.
-His wealth means nothing unless he can buy himself anothey kidney.
-Yay for single parents...but i would rather cure cancer...so R.I.P.

74 Year Old Scienist

- HELLO?! people this lady is about to cure cancer! yeah,there might be other people with her in her research,but it only takes on person to say "a-ha,thats the cure".
- Elderly women often do well in surgery,my grandma had surgery a year ago,she is 85,she can walk for miles...in fact she does...she is more fit than me...the scientist can make it..
- The longest a person has lived is 122 years
-What if the little girl that everyone wanted to save winds up having cancer?and because the scientist never cured cancer,now the girl dies...and many other cancer patients.


-Conclusion-

Hmmm..lets see...the child could amount to nothing or everything...the 40 year old is probably only important to his children..the athlete...well i hate sports..and there are plenty of other athletes out there...who are not HIV positive,and do not need a kidney transplants...so to me the answer in more than obviosly the scientist without a doubt...at all...no thank you Mr. Johnson..for making this such an easy blog for me to answer.

Like everyone else i would choose the scientist....yes, the child has her whole life in front of her, but you never know what she might amount to. That is mean. but whith the others its more fixed. The doctor will live the rest of her life trying to discover the cure for cancer. The athelte will keep on playing sports and the single parent will keep care of his kids. The kids have money in the bank and if they work they could pay off for college so they shouldn't be too bad off, plus if they have other family members tehy could live with them The child might later have other health problems that they don't know about yet or she might wind up not contributing anything to the rest of society. All this is harsh, but we have no idea. I wouldnt choose the athelete only becaue he has aids. I wouldn't choose the dad because he kinda brougth this upon himself...I would feel guilty though...I'd also feel bad saying no to the child, especially. Imagine the parents reacction and the child is young...I would say es to the scientist...only because she is really close to finding the cure for cancer and by the decision of saving her, the result could be saving hundreds of other children and adults. LIke mr. j said, it only takes one person to find the cure(idk if thats exactly it but it was basically the same thing)...yeah so thats my choice-the scientist
 

For me this is really difficult. I automatically thought about the little girl and the scientist.

The scientist is close to doing something so amazing that can change and save so many peoples lives and I think that's so great. If she suceeds she can change the entire future, but what if she doesn't?

The poor little girl is so young and has so much to do with her life. She deserves a chance to live, especially since this is her only medical condition.


So I guess the kidney should go to the scientist who's gonna save so many lives.

well the child is only seven so she has her whole life ahead of her. she also has no other medical problems so the only way of possibly dieing is not getting this kidney transplant.

the athlete-
he may be famouse or whatever. but hes a dime a dozen.. theres likke 10 million other athletes out there. plus he has HIV which means who knows how long he is going to be able to live.

the dad-
this is a hard one he conqured the dredded disease of alcohalism and hes also a single paretn of 3. but we dont know if he has an close relatives he could give his children to. and we dont want them to go into an orphanage. from my own family experience my grandmother was an orphan and it wasnt bad but it wasnt the best., also the children could get split up.

scientist-
now this is a hard one if she is going to find the cure for cancer then yeah let her live. but we dont know for sure if she really is going to save millions off peopl. als o we dont know this but she might have a partner she can explain everythuing in detail but we dotn know if she does...

this is a ahrd decision but i think i will choose the.... scientist..this si becasue if she finds the cure to cancer she will save millions insead of the girl of r man getting the kidney and we just save one life..

i kinda feel bad for the athelete

cuz no one's choosing him

cuz they know that he's gonna die

from HIV anywayz. but this doesn't

mean that i feel bad enough to

choose him....it's just that it's

i chose the alcoholic person cuz

since he's rich. he could afford

This is a tough choice. I think that of all the people the little girl deserves it and this is the reason why.

1) The Athlete: wheather or not his HIV is putting his life in danger he is well... an athlete. He has a lot of money and he can afford to go somewhere else and get a new liver.

2) the man: This is a wealthy man meaning with insurance and his money he can probobly afford a liver. Also as before mentioned by many other people he put himself into this situation. Hopefully he can get a new liver in time without this liver.

3) the scientist: this is the hardest choice. The scientist does deserve the liver because of all the people she can help but im sure within the 48 hours she has to live she can share ideas with her partners in this experiment. Even without this transplant she can get money needed for another transplant.

4) The little girl: She can become a doctor who cures a disease, or a famous athlete, or a single mother of nine. The girl has her entire life to live and she deserves to live it.


One final note I think they need more hospitals in this area or more livers coming in to this hospital.

The athelete, sadly, is HIV positive and will die anyway.


The recovering alcoholic is a tragic situation because the kids will be orphaned, but they probably didnt have a great relationship with their dad sice he was an alcoholic.They will be financially comfortable and can pay for the therapy they need. It may be better to not be raised by a recovering alcoholic in the long run anyway.


So, My choice is the scientist. If she really has the potential to cure cancer, tons of other lives will be saved by giving her the kidney.


- if she isnt going to find the cure, the little girl, because she has her whole ife to live.
 

First, I rule out the pro athlete beause a kidney transplant would probably do no good if this guy is hiv positive. I wouldn't give the kidney to the single parent. He is a recovering alcoholic, so I think that either way his children will suffer; with or without him. "REcovering" does not mean that he's guaranteed to succeed in staying sober, which in the end could hurt his kids more. Also, while him dying woul dbe hard for the kids, it could be jsut as hard to see him struggle from alcoholism and have them be physically hurt for example. He is wealthy, so they probably live comfortably as it is. Finding another relative to care for them is possible as well as foster homes.

Last, although the scientist has a lot to offer, I think the girl should get the kidney. Even though the scientist is on the verge of finding a cure, chances are that this wasn't in total secret. Other people working close by I'm sure have a fairly good knowledge of her ideas and progress. Even if she were to get the kidney transplant, there is still the chance she could die, simply from age. Also, the little girl will make better and longer use of the kidney because she has a full life ahead of her. It would not be put to good use if given to the scientist, then she died shortly after.

wow. everyone's entry is so long. im not going to explain my reasons for ruling out people in full detail, but, the athelete is already on his way to death with HIV, so the kidney is not going to him ... the scientist can have a co-worker or whatever take over her studies, so its not going to her ... and the single dad has 3 kids? but children can survive in orphanages or with foster parents ... thats really not a bad scenario. i would give the kidney to the little girl because she had a sudden failure and has no other medical problems. she has her whole life to live and allowing her to continue living and the oppurtunity to have children.. those children could make up lives for the lost ones who did not get the kidney.

This is a tough decision--

Sadly, the athlete will probably die soon from AIDS so I would not chose him.

Since the 40 year old single father would leave behind kids, it makes him a better possible candidate.

The scientist made huge progress in finding a cure for cancer. If she doesn't get the liver, can't a business partner pick up where she left off by using her notes or something?

The little girl has her whole life ahead of her and could become something great one day. Of course no one would ever know of her potential achievements if she wasn't chosen.

I would have to say my final decision would be to choose the little girl.

Like everyone else is saying I don't think the athlete should get the transplant. He was probably an amazing athlete but what I want to know is how he got the disease? Was it do to needles, steroids, or was it sexually transmitted? If so I feel terrible but he should have took more precaution. The only thing that would make me second guess this is if he received it accidentally. But he is going to die from HIV with or without the transplant, our goal is to keep someone alive!
As for the single father of three kids. This is a tough call. The three kids could possibly end up in an orphanage or even split apart. The father did overcome alcoholism, which he did bring upon himself, but he was strong enough to move past that. This transplant is his only chance to survive, and provide a good life for him and his children. Hopefully he would put his money to good use and use it to help his children. Honestly, he didn't do a good job as a parent for most of his life and the kids probably had to go through a hard life so far.
Now for the child. The child is only seven years old and hasn't even had her chance to live in the world yet. Is it fair to have her die over people who have numerous memories that made their lives memorable to them? Don't you think that she should have her chance to experience things just as the three others have? She could go on to do great things!
Last but not least, the scientist. If this scientist is right and has had a major breakthrough on the cure for cancer, then she could be saving millions of lives. Scientists almost always work in a group and therefore she could explain the whole treatment to a partner.
If I had to choose I would pick the scientist. If this treatment works out millions of lives will be saved. Not that it is a small price to pay for these three other people to die, but if this worked out that many more lives could be saved! But it is a very tough call!!
