1. One of the original concerns from Earth Day 1970 that is still a concern of the global community today is is chemicals that people are using that cause a serious health risk. Like in 1972 the ban of DDT because of it's harmful effect such as cancer. Even though DDT is now banned there are still other chemicals that can have serious health risks.
2. Yes, we have made a lot of progress in our attempt to become more environmentally friendly. People have come up with many things that have helped the environment like electric cars and solar energy. And yes, our Eco-footprint has become bigger and I think it will continue to expand and sooner or later the Earth will be a cleaner and healthier place.

4. Something that I can do to start doing to help the environment is recycle [which i already do]. Something I think our government can start doing is really actually listening to some environmentalists groups because even though the government might not like it they actually have something to say and do about this situation.

Although research says that air quality has improved it could still be much better. “Since 1970, ambient levels of sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide have fallen by 75 percent, while total suspended particulates like smoke, soot, and dust have been cut by 50 percent since the 1950s.”


Personally, I think that we really haven’t made that much progress in becoming more environmentally friendly. Although much effort has been made for the world to become more environmentally friendly, in my opinion the damage is already done. Sure air quality has improved a little, but pollution is still a major problem. Cutbacks on inspection funding have increased our pollution risks. Many states have air quality levels that are below EPA quality standards.





In order to improve our environment I think that states will need to stop cutting back on inspection funding and promote forms of public transportation. In doing so, hopefully some air quality will improve.
 

A concern that is still present today is pollution. We pump chemicals and smoke into the air each day with factories and power plants. I think we have made some progress in our attempt to become more ecofriendly. Here is a link that shows that enviromentally friendly cars are becoming popular.

Hmmmmm enviormentaly friendly? i would have to say we are tryong. There are things that we have done to try helping our situation but 1 not enough is being done 2 we cant repair what already happened.

1. One of the original problems of Earth day is air pollustion like most people said. It is said that it is much cleaner but you still see those big factories released huge clouds of black smoke. So it can get better and people can still polute less. Also gas pollutes the air and EVERYONE drives which pollutes the air. But it is hard to say stop driving because you need to go places like work and school and get food and stuff. You could use solar cars =)

From the first Earth Day, people have be concerned about humans' impact on the enviroment. These concerns included concerns about global warming. As of today, our enviromental ideas are in flux. I don't think that we've really improved. We say that we've improved, but...I think that if people walk the walk, not just talk the talk, we might actually get somewhere. If some people would stop inciting fear in people about global warming, and then sit back in their private jets and mansions that use 20 times as much electricity as normal people...
Basically, if we can stop decieving ouselves about the enverioment, thinking other people will go and fix it, and actually do something, anything, ourselves, it might work.
And for me to help the enviroment, I've been trying not to throw out so much stuff, or waste water.

Alright, so...

One concern from Earth Day 1970 that is still present is Air Pollution in major cities/highly populated areas. We, as a nation, have made alot of progress in thise area. Over the past three decades, the amount of air pollution has drastically decreased, which is a good thing for us because we can now breathe freely, for the most part, without having to worry about what smog or harmful gases we may be inhaling.

Over all, I feel that our nation is, in most aspects, becoming more environmentally friendly. We are developing alternatives for everything from cars to fertilizers and cleaning products. The progress we've made as a country, although it could be better, is good compared the large population that we must control.

This link is about an organization known as Global Green. They practice ways of making our nation progressively more environmentally friendly, and they are a good example for the rest of the world.

One thing that I can do to help improve the environment is to drive hybrid cars, or cars have a high mileage. This will reduce the amount of pollution in the air (coming from the exhaust-fumes), but can also help to preserve some oil because the amount of gas consumption will go down as a result of the high mileage of the cars which allow me too drive further without having to get gas.
 

Alright so lets start off with a topic that I have a great interest in. The topic is Global Warming and it was one of the original concerns from Earth Day 1970. More specifically I am interested in carbon dioxide and other hazardous gases. Global warming is greatly impacting the earth and us as inhabitants of the earth.

From what I can see, I think there has been progress made in the field of global warming. We have figured out the causes for it and what it is doing to the earth. We have also predicted what is to come in the future and what countries play the biggest role in global warming.

1. One of the original problems from 1970 is the one of nonrenewable resources. With more car productions and whatnot, oil is going faster than we can say middle east. >_< We all know that oil takes forever and a half to make and we're using it as if it were tap water. Not cool guys, not cool. Our eco-printy has gotten bigger in my opinion if you base it all on my one issue I bring up above.

2. We have made negative progress if anything, we're using more and more resources, and developing more land into stuff like Tacobell and walmart. Two things the world would be better without. Not my point though. Developing more land means ripping trees down. Ripping trees down means less oxygen making which equals sad human race. :( and mammals too.

1. Air poluion is still a major concern, as it was in 1970. It affects the ozone layer, and more simply, the air we breathe.
2. I think we have failed, in the long run, to reduce our eco-footprint. Although new, more efficient technological innovations are being used, we have also industrialized so much in the last 100 years to the point that our damage is permanent.

Hello everyone! Well i think a concern from the original Earth Day that is still around today is global warming. This issue has recentilently been brought up because scientists believe the earth is warming up too quick.

I believe we have tried to make a difference in global warming but whats's done is done. I am totally for enviromentl friendly products, I just think the damage is too great to be changed now. As Elana said in class, if we change the way we live (more enviormenly friendly products) over like three years, the average Earth temperature will only lower 1 degree. We try to make cars more friendly by using Ethenol but that is not catching on.

One thing i can do to help improve the enviornment is to ride my bike to the Stewert's(which is like 5 minutes from my house)instead of having my parents drive when they want like milk or something.

Air pollution causes respiratory problems and is responsible for a large number of deaths.Chemicals and smoke are put into our air all the time and isn't doing the world and oursleves any good.
2.Even though it is said that air pollution has decreased, it is still there and being pumped into our air supply every minute of every day. We have made some progress, such as environmentally safe cars, but it is still affecting our air and once it is polluted it is hard to get out. The air may be cleaner now, but it is still pretty polluted. Certain things are becoming environmentally friendly and help keep the air cleaner, and not do as much damage to the air than a normal thing would do.

5. One thing that I can do to help is get an eco friendly car to drive, the town can use the cleanest equipment to keep the air pollution down, and the gov't can make cars that are only eco friendly to lessen the amount of air polluntion through out the country and possibly even the world.
 

1. An original concern from 1970 that is still around today is what they call the 'explosion of the population bomb'. Populations in many countries such as India and China are still rising very rapidly despite measures being taken in china limiting the number of births.

2. Yes, I think that we have made progress since then, but not enough. There needs to be way more action taken by governments around the world, even the UN to make more laws and put more limits on pollution causing activities. Hopefully this will happen soon and improve the quality of the world we live in.

More concretely, it takes 20 new cars to produce the same emissions that one car produced in the 1960s.

In school today, we learn about the Earth, in everybody’s favorite class, Earth Science. I think that we have improved the condition of the planet, but we still have a long way to go. One thing that we can do is drive less when we don’t have to and walk. It is healthier for the environment and humans as well.

One of the major problems that has been around since the 1970's which is pollution. Its a concern because since pollution is getting worse everyday from cars and factories it also make air bad to breathe in some areas of the world. Also pollution is affecting global warming and now we have holes in the o-zone layer. Things that I can do to help is to plant more plants to clean the pollution in the air and recycle more often.

Yes there has been attempts to stop pollution. Hybrid cars are just one example, but i think that much of the damage is already done. Plus there have been studies that say that pollution is aiding in global warming.

1. One of the original concerns from Earth Day 1970 that is still a concern of the global community today is the declining of biodiversity in forests and rainforests of the world. The destruction of these diverse species' habitats sped up their rate of endangerment.(is that a word? =])

2. I think we have made much progress in this area, for the better. Many conservation efforts and wildlife reservs have saved many species from extinction. However, I still think that we might be making just as much trouble as we are progress. Every year, acres of rainforest are being destroyed, and along with it, many species of plants and animals that have not even been discovered or fully researched yet.

i think that we have actually gotten worse with the fume we release. true we have more fuel efficient cars but theyre to expensive for the average working family to afford them and also way more people own cars than did in the 1970's, i think by recycling and walking or riding a bike to close by places you could be a small part of a big thing that could help preserve our environment in the long run.

i recycle and i plan to try to find somewhere that recycles paper also im trying to ride my bike more to get to places instead of my scooter (its electric thats why) also i wont get my own car ill use ones that we already have so its not just one more car adding to the pollution also i want to see even the big rich people with their big houses actually do something and not just talk about how everyone else needs to do stuff.

One of the original concerns I chose was pollution. We have made a little progress but for the most part people are still polluting a lot but were getting better. One thing the government can do to help with pollution is by replacing all cars with hybrid cars and fine another use of oil that is fuel efficent and cheap.

A major concern of Earth Day is that there are simply too many hippies killing the productive people in society. And the hippies want the environment to stop being destroyed, or something like that.

We have made some progress, but the effects are still in the process. It will take much effort to stop the effects of all of our activities.

To preserve the environment, I suggest that we buyan acre or so of precious delicate land. Then, I will cut all th trees down and sell them sio I can buy more land to preserve, and thus continue, starting up my very own giant land-preserving business.
