Final BioBlog Entry June 2007 Period ONE
Comments:
1. i really liked the blog because it was a new thing that i didn't experience before and it made the class a little more interesting.

2. two positive aspects are that there was a blog every week and that you could actually debate between people in your class about the same topic.

3. i think that the topics should've been more challenging like the one about the kidney and who you should give it to. i also think that you could put on theories from the past and let people decide if they agree or disagree with them. like the theories of evolution.

4. my favorite topics were the kidney one and the Gattaca one
because they were a little more challenging than the others and you actually had to think a little. i didn't like the one with the cloned food because i don't think i wanted to know about that.

5. you could give your class a topic and tell them to comment in like two or three days. then tell them to post another comment debating someone else's opinion in the last two days of the week. something like that. or you could post more of the polls on and see how many people like what. that way you get an idea of what topics people like to debate about. that is all i got.

have fun this summer Johnson and ill probably see you next year!!

:-(
(yay im the first one...even though i still owe two other blogs...O:-))
anyways....
1) I kinda enjoyed the blog, it allowed us to express our opinions and open up to other ideas. The one thing that made me not want to do the blog was posting a link. I ussually found it frustrating to gind one to support my opinions. ANd no offense Mr. J but some blog topics were kinda boring to do too.
2) 1-We can see other people's ideas and build off them to create our own opinions. Yes, people would just use other's blogs to do their own, but some might have actually read someone's blog and changed their opinion on whatever topic it was because of that.
2-It was much more interesting than homework packets or making powerpoints. We have to do homework, but this was the easiest because it was just explaining our opinions and it was relatively quicker.
3) I wouldn't have us create a link for every single blog. I would have also not have some questions where once someone answers it everyone copies that answer, like in the Huntington's disease one where we had to identify the chromosome.
4)I liked the embryo selesction one and the Blog of your own, and the chocolate one. These were my favorite because they were wither very debatable or just fun to do. The ones I did not enjoy were the one where we did endangered species and the ethical one because we just kinda stated facts and it wasn't that much fun to research.
5. I was thinking that you should have us respond to another person's opinion, you could randomly pair up people in class and then have them respond to eachother in the blog. This way it can be more personalized, because people ussually just respong to someone they agree with and just restate what they think. And you can have the other person reply back so it would be three postings for each person-one to state where their opinion is on the blog, one to respond to the other person's, and another to defend, or just say thanks or something to what their partner said abt the blog. I don't know if that makes sense or is too complicated, but its an idea. =D
C'ya in class mr. j!!!

Darn I took too long. lol

I liked the blog because it gave everybody a chance to talk about some things that were going on currently. It also showed how biology really is life.

Two positive aspects of the blog were the fact that it was connected to current events and that we were aloud to express our opinion then explain it.

I definitly liked the kidney blog because it really made you think. I also liked the cloning food blog because in a few years that could be front page news all over the country but right now im sure most of the population does not even no anything about cloned food.

One thing you can do for next year is have the students write their bolg as they ushually do but then put it on one main page so students can see the other periods to make the opionions even larger

Another thing you can do is seperate the class into two groups, a group that agrees with a certain opinion and a group that disagrees with an opinion. These two groups can then post why certain things should happen or should not happen.

I hope everyone has a great summer.

1. i like the blog because it was a good way to share our opinions about events happening today.

2. i would have to say debating with other classmates about these topics was the best part of the blog.

3. in order to make the blog better, the topics need to be more difficult to decide and more debateable...this way people really get to think.

4) my favorite topics would have to be the "Which person would you give the kidney to?" topic and the one about Huntington's disease becuase I really had to think about the situations. I didn't really like the one aobut chococlate and is it a health food because..um...it was boring.:)

5. i'm actually not really sure what can be done to make the blog better but i like afzaal's idea about posting another comment to debate with another student.

I actually really liked the blog. A lot of times i forgot and had to do it at the last minute... but other than that it was fun. I liked being able to express my opinion about controversial issues

I liked that you get to see how everyone feels about differetn issues and i liked beign able to tell people how i feel.

I wouldnt have had links about the topics already on the page.. it would be interesting to see how poepl get their information and different information on idfferent sites and more clallenging and controversial topics would be fun =]

4. What were you favorite/ least favorite topic(s)? Why?

I liked the topic of global warming affecting polar bears and the one where we had to decide who to give the kidney to. HTey were so controversial and it was interesting to see how people felt abou thtem.

I think that you should have a poll every week pertaining to the blog, like the one you have now. THis way, you can instanly see the results of how people feel about topics.

aww last blog ='[

1. i actually enjoyed the blog immensely. it was fun to give my opinion on current events as well as to read other peoples. i had never done anything like this in a class before and i think it showed us a little more about our classmates. although i enjoyed it, it was a little annoying to have the pressure on me every week to remember and alot of the time i didnt.

2. two positive aspects were that each blog was a relatively current event and stuff we could all relate to, and the fact that we could read every one else's comments and debate back and forth if we wanted to.

3. i personally wouldn't have had links required for so many blogs. that part kind of threw me off sometimes as to why we needed one.. and i think we should have brainstormed a list of topics we were interested in, as to having no previous knowledge about the topic.

4. my favorite topics were the chocolate being healthy one because it was interesting to read that some chocolate could actually be healthy and the kidney one because it definatley got our brains going and it made us think as to who the kidney would go to.

5. OKAY! i really think this is a good one. i think you should have one day a week where you, IN CLASS, discuss the previous weeks blog. you could bring up the comments onto the smartboard and have a live debate in class. each student would only be able to post one comment for the week and they can save their debates and extra comments for "Bio Blog Debate Day." you should keep tabs on who has and hasnt done it, and really get them to participate.

^^ honestly, i realllyyy like that one =]

seeee you guys on monday!!
only 2 days leftt =[

I did like the weekly blog. Not only was it a good way for me to get somewhat informed, when I rememebred, it was a good easy way to earn a splendid grade. some issues we discussed were also very interesting.

one nice aspect of the blog was being able to see what others wrote anddddddddddddddddd then either agree or disagree with them. this is because you could see how others felt in relation to your own opinion. the second nice part was doing a blog saves the paperwork and it's easy to do. you don't have to find a pen and paper and you have the whole week to do it.

I would have directly related the blog topics to whatever we were learning that weeek... Also,as others have said, if youre looking to make the blog possibly more challenging, more in depth and difficult topics wold do the trick.

My favorite topic was the one when we decided who would receive the kidney donation..because it really made my reaize how hard it would be to make such a decision and how that really does occur in real life. I also liked the create your own blog because it was interesting to see what people chose as theirs.

to make the blog more interactive... you could allow the blog to go on for a few weeks with the same topic. that would give people time to interact more rather than just commenting once and POSSIBLy agreeing or disagreeing with someone else.. this could also be done by multiple entries within one weeek, but that would just add to homework.. you could just assign the weekly blog, but keep it the same topic for a few.

1. I actually didn't mind the blog. I generally remembered to do it and it was interesting to hear the opinions of my classmates.
2. Two positive aspects about the blog were that you got to see other people's opinions and you had the oppurtunity to let your opinion's be known. You also had the ability to debate, but I don't think very many people did that.
3. I think I should have questioned the opinions of other people and maybe have gotten into a more in depth conversation. That way more would be accomplished than just putting your initial point of view out there. I also think that we should have more "hands on" blogs. More like the one where you had to determine who survived with the transplant. I liked being able to decide things on my own rather than just reflecting on things I ultimately didn't have much say in.
4. My favorite topics were the Gattaca one, and the one where you got to determine who received the transplant.
5. Something that could be done to improve the blog would be having different classes debate amongst themselves. Have everyone debate amongst their own class and then have a seperate posting space for classroom discussions. Assign every class a different point of view, and have them discuss the topic. This would allow us to interact with people who don't know our points of views, and are not there for our classroom discussions.

Have a good summer Mr. J =)

i think the blog was a good idea because it was a good way to see how other people were thinking about the events going on in the world. I liked the blog because it wasn't boring like textbook work or something because you were able to read everyone elses ideas and it was really interesting to see other peoples opinions. I also liked it because it gave me a chance to debate. This was my first blog so I enjoyed it. To be honest though I didn't like the whole link thing. That was the worst part of the blog. My favorite blog gwas the one where you had to choose who to give the kidney to because that one really made me think. I didnt like the week where we had to pick our own because one thing I liked about the blog was that some of the topics were true but very random, and it was hard for me to find an article as good as the others.
To make the blog better, I think you should cut down on the questions and have just one good question, then, like everyone else said, have a blog partner where you can debate over the topic. I know that I would probably like that better

last blog =[

have a great summer everyone!
oh and this year I have definitely learned that biology IS life...not just something mr johnson says because he likes bio =]

OMG! This is soooooooo sad---its our last Johnson blog entry...unless you do AP BIO--wink wink;)

The blogs were amazing, annoying but amazing. It def kept me up to date on the issues i never cared enough to look up-it was a great experience. It was new and fresh and interesting and it made you think-i give it an A+ Johnson!

I liked that the topics were very current in the blog. Blog was also good because it made me realize other opinions and sides to debates and conflicts in bio. If you read something like on the internet-you just have your opinion. Its always good to be open to learning about other peoples views.

bad things?? umm maybe topics should be more debatable. I would have loved to see more debating and goingback and forth...so maybe if you designed the questions with that in mind-it would make it better=)agreeing with my classmates-sometimes I felt things didnt require links. Maybe in the future you can not require links or make the questions more appropriate for links.

I don't know which was my favorite. i liked the really random ones like the fish cloaning and the chocolate one. I really like d the topics that were very down to earth and applied to my life. i also liked the ones about test tube babies and other things like that because i learned more about very current and problematic issues. I didnt like the biodiversity one- I prefer more ethical blogs and ones that apply more to my life--like the earth day and recyclleng ones-those were good too=)

Okay-well i love the whole "bio debate day", the partnering and the poll ideas...but what if you added one extra point(like and 11 out of 10) on the blog for every second substantial interactive debating posting. But you can only get a mazimum of 3 extra points so it doesnt get crazy. This way you will get a really cool debate thing going on. Plus you could also have the debate day and the poll. You could also have everyone at the end of each entry-rate the blog out of 10 points-so you know which ideas to continue with.

Okay Mr. Johnson--you are seriously the coolest teacher i've ever had. I couldn't even imagine having the patience you do (especially for me ;) hahaha but really-you can be so cool yet you no when to be serious. I loved singing all our oldie weird broadway songs together! i'm going to misyour classs soooooo much next year! Who is going to wake me up first period-im going to be lost without you! Ive told you this before-but I always tell my friends about how much I love you and that your an awesome teacher! I told them about your bio christmas carols and your I love Lucy analogy! You are going to get so many requests for you as a teacher becauseof me! Me and anna banana are going to be visiting you soo much! I hope you always remember me-cause ill never forget you-uve made a lasting impact on me as a great teacher. Thank you for everything! Im seriously like gonna cry-look what you do to me Johnson!!!...well i guess this is Slippers f2 flip flop footwear making her last blog entry...tear
have an amazing summer Johnson-cant wait to hear all about you crazy trip=)
2 days left!!! ahhhh
<3 kaitlyn

: - )
Goodmorning... only 2 class days left !

I didn't like the weekly blog. I'm bad at remembering things. The blog was the thing I always needed to make up...like right now.

It's very current. It's also on the internet which gives kids no excuse for not doing it, including me...

I don't think we should post link. Even though it helps us relate, sometimes it's the hardest part of the blog. Then I wouldn't post it so often, or I'd remind others more often, so they can remember.

I liked the Final Bolg topic. It's more free than the other ones. I did not like that 'pick who you want to give your liver to' one. It was kinda saddening.

It would help if you did a blog with the class (during class) once a month. Then it might help the class.

Okay =) so um overall I liked doing the blogs. They were simple to do, but also dealt with challenging topics.

My favorite thing about the blog was being able to post my personal opinion without having to argue about it. And the majority of topics were really interesting.

It would have been cool if we chould have chosen more of the topic. And it would have been nice to have some stronger guidelines because some of the questions were sometimes a little vague.

I really liked the chocolate and 'choose your own' topic. Those were really cool. There weren't any I really strongly disliked.

You could let the class choose more of the topics and have actual debates on the blog. That'd be cool =)

~~i really liked this blog. it was fun and i got the chance to see what other people thought on different topics.

~~2 positive effects were that we were allowed to say whatever was on our mind. also we were allowed to wright as much on the topic as we wanted.

~~2 things i would improve is not to have a link for almost every blog. i would also change the fact that we had to have the blog every week

~~my favorite topic was the one about the biodiversity becasue it showed people about what is going on around the world today.

~~to make it more interactive i would have everyone post a blog twice or more debating with other people.

I AM GOING TO MISS BIO AND MR.J SOOOO MUCH...IM COMING TO VISIT NEXT YEAR!!!!!!

16 June 2007
Have a GREAT Summer!
See you in September.

o drats.

i forgot.
i thought today was still like...the 12th or something...o well

i thought the blog was ok but i didnt like the commitment of doing it every week. i mean like, once in a while, i'd be fine with it---but it gets to be something like a chore if its repetitive (even if the topics are different)

uh..two positive aspects....rite..
hmm, i guess it was interesting to read other people's ideas about the topics and stuff. and two, um. lemme think. i like typing assignments a little better than writing ones.

two things that would change might be....not having to do it every week but, lol, thats kinda the point of a weekly blog so..idk. maybe we could've made it more interactive. like. putting in games or stuff like that.

i didnt like the topics that made me put a link in. i cant remember if those were all the topics but w/e. that was the annoying part for me.

interactive: games, music, more voting polls, etc.

the blog, overall, was a really cool idea. ya no, coming from a teacher and all, xD juuuuuust kidding.

ur SUPA FLY JOHNSON ^^
cya next year after school and wat not

have a good summer, dont let ur brain rot, visit lots of exotic places and get sleep.

o!
and my cat is WAY more cuter than urs

- Its late, but its better than incomplete-

1. I really enjoyed the blog, especially when the topics where interesting.i dont watch the news, so the information on the blog gave me a insight on the outside world.

2.I liked that the blog was a homework, even though i sometimes
forgot to do it.And it was also fun to give your opinion on a topic, and seeing who disagrees or agrees.

3.I think that the blogs should have been a little more difficult, so we could broaden our opinions.I could've tried harder to complete the blogs on time.

4.My favorite blogs are the Lorenzo's Oil blog, and the organ doner blog.
My least favorites are the ones when we had to choose our own topic or anyone that was uniteresting.

5. maybe having a chat session, or assigning certain days to check the blogcould make it more interactive.

Taking time out of class, like only five minutes, to review what the blog has said could encourage people to respond.

The blogs would have been alot better if at the end of the week, we discussed them in class.

everyone knows that maui and kauai are the "way cutest" cats !
