It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Critique the year of BioBlogs… I told you in September that the BioBlog was an experiment for me. My plan was to use a blog in class to integrate several components of the NYS biology curriculum, technology, and my personal pedagogy (teaching methods). My intent was to help you be aware of “biology current events;” push you to explore your feelings and beliefs about biotechnology; force you to examine the practice of bioethics; and help you create an online portfolio of your experiences throughout the school year.
At the same time, I hoped to make you aware that biology is life. It encompasses animals that we call pets, and others we call food. It includes a vast array of life forms. The nuances of life can be very complex, elusive, and subtle. Sometimes it requires advocacy, other times compassion.
As all good experiments we need to collect some data, reach some conclusions, and make some suggestions for improvement. I guess that as my “lab rats” you are a perfect source of information about the Bio-Blog.
This final blog entry will be worth 25 points, and is due by midnight 15 June 2007.
You are invited to be honest, but polite in your response to the following questions.
1. Give me your basic feeling about the blog. Did you like or dislike the weekly blog? Explain.
2. List two or more positive aspects of the blog (not favorite topics). Explain your response.
3. Reflect on two or more things you would have done differently, or that could have been improved. Explain how you would have changed those aspects of the blog.
4. What were you favorite/ least favorite topic(s)? Why?
5. In future years I would like to make the blog a more interactive assignment. What could be done to make the Bio-Blog a more interactive tool? I will give an additional 10 points of extra credit to any “first ideas” for improvement that I feel (yes that is subjective) are realistic and can be incorporated into the BioBlog.
