I think the child should get the kidney. She has only lived a short amount of time and hasn't experienced life. She will live a longer life than any of the the other candidates for the transplant would with the transplant. She has done no other things to harm her body like alcohol. She has less of a chance of getting another kidney from another donor or illegally if this were to come up because of her age and the fact that she doesn't have a lot of money. She could do some life changing things in her future to help people. I did not think that the dad deserves to get the kidney transplant. Yes, he does have three kids that would miss him, but they would be well supported with the money that he has. He also was an alcoholic which means he could not have been the best role model for his children. He also has done harm to his body from drinking that could cause him to die even if he did get the kidney transplant.

i think that the little girl should get the kidney. she should get the kidney because she has her whole life ahead of her. She could go on to do something great. she is only a little child. she has a better chance of living a fuller life than the other people. the boxer shouldnt get it because he has HIV and is gona die eventually anyway. and the dad shoudlnt get it because he could relapse into acoholism and develope liver problems. 1.The scientist
2.She's on the verge of curing cancer. If we save her then we save the millions that have cancer. The contributions that she will make would be more than the others can offer. You can't have another person to carry on her work, you need the scientists to understand her own notes. You can't possibly copy her mind and how she thinks.
3.As I said, the others can't make up for what's lost. Besides, the father is rich so the kids don't have to go to a poor orphanage and the athlete has lots of fans, one of them might donate a kidney.

I think that the little girl should get the kidney because she has lived the shortest amount of time and has a long future ahead of her. In her life she could do great things and even if she doesn't, she deserves to live as long as the four other candidates should. Compared to the others she has the most future. Also this may be the only chance she can get a kidney. In my opinion the others shouldn't get it because the boxer already has HIV so he is going to die soon anyway. Yeah the dad does have three kids but he is wealthy so the kids will have money. He also was an alcoholic so he might of abused his kids or set a bad example. There is a chance he'll start drinking again and do more harm to his body so that is a waste. The scientist, yeah she is on the verge of curing cancer but she has 48 hours to live so she can explain to another scientist what she thought or tape record herself or leave notes, and just because shes close doesn't mean she has it yet. She also has the shortest life span out of all four.

I think that the doctor should receive the kidney. She is almost gonna cure cancer. That would be probably the biggest accomplishment in the world. What would you rather have, millions saved or one saved? She has worked hard all her life. she also helps people everyday and should be helped back. The boxer should not get it cause he will not give anything back to the world. the child will also not give back anything to the world. And the dad is an alcoholic and it is his fault that he needs a new kidney.

Hmmmmm....hard blog!

I would give the Scientist the Kidney. In my opinion, it's done to saving one life or saving one that could save millions. She's on the brink of curing MILLLIONS of people from dying. She may be in her 7os, but she's on the verge of an amazing break through. And it's not like she can just leave notes and someone will figure out what she's doing. No one thinks like you do!

As for the others...the boxer could die soon anyways if his HIV turns into AIDS...so it's a waste of a kidney. The little girl...you don't know what she's gonna do with her life. What if you gave it to her and she turns out to be a harm to the earth?! And the dad...he chose to destroy his life by drinking. He didn't have to do it and recovering or not, he shouldn't get the kidney.

Kidney Transplants

I believe that the father should get the kidney. I chose him because last May my father died of kidney failure so I know how it feels to loose a father to kindney failure. Eventhough I never met my father pesonally, we were writing letters and he was supposed to come visit last summer. I say the father because he has 3 kids who still need him because they have no mother. And even though they are rich and the dad was a alcoholic he is recovering and deserves another chance. The little girl my be cute , but nobody knows what the future has in store for her and if you kill the dad you might ruin 3 kids lives at the same time. For the boxer, Ahh forget about him he's famous with HIV he could die any day from that. and the doctor she is old she could also die any day form old age. I think that the child should get the kidney. Although there is a very slim chance that she will go on to make major changes in the world when she grows up, she still deserves the kidney. The scientist and the boxer have already made a name for themselves in society, and have had the chance to live most of their life out to the fullest. The little girl is only like 7 years old. She hasn't had a chance yet to live her life and go on to perhaps do great things. The father shouldn't get the kidney because he is a recorvering alcoholic. The kidney should go to someone more deserving of it, who takes care of their body. Not that the seven year old could even be an alcoholic at that age, but you know what i mean. There is always a risk that the father could go back to abusing alcohol, which could then cause liver problems or other health problems in the future. Oh, and to what "Pam" said in the 7th comment down, Although the scientist is on the verge of curing cancer, her notes can always be used by another group of scientists, perhaps even the scientists who helped her get to where is now...her work can always be picked back up and the cure could still be solved. It is true that everyone thinks alike, but maybe a fresh new start on the topic can also help too. She's probably been working on finding the cure for 30+ years...and a fresh take on things might me just what this particular problem needs. But back on topic... The boxer has HIV anyways, and although he is a professional athlete, all athletes come and go. He's not the only Professional boxer in the world, right? oh and by the way, im really sorry to hear about your dad tink. I don't know what it's like to lose somebody like that, but i just wanted to say that im sorry to hear that. =\

hey tink,

i want to thank you for being so open, and sharing your experience with all of us. the loss of a person who is an "important person to us" is always difficult, and the time after that loss a difficult period of time.

i am sorry to hear of your loss.

I think the child should get the kidney. She has only lived a short amount of time and hasn't experienced life. The athlete will get the kidney from one of his fans. The scientist has lived a long life and she is most likely will not find the cure in her life time but one of co-workers can. The father should get the kidney also but you cant really share a kidney but the father has lived a long life and his daughters have some money to fall back on. ummmm even though i said that the girl should get the kidney after reading tinks blog i have to say i am now agreeing with her the father improved his life by not drinking alcohol and he is a single father so where are his children gonna go? all ocasions are said but the father deserves it the most.

Ninja here! This was a really hard decision to make. After five days of hard thinking, I have chosen a recipient.....

The Scientist.

The scientist has won the kidney. I had to fall back on the "how many lives will benefit from this" theory. With the scientist on the verge of curing cancer, it was pretty obvious. It is a good bet that the scientist will discover the cure and save millions of lives other than just one or two. She has a better chance of improving the world than the other candidates. So for my opinion, the amount of lives "saved" was the deciding factor. *sigh*

The candidate that I shoved away at the start was the boxer. According to his bio, he had no immediate family problems and HIV positive. I think he would not use the kidney for the same causes as the scientist would.

Rros and Cons of Organ Transplants

And my sympathies to Tink.

I believe that the scientist should receive the kidney. She is on the verge of finding cancer which would save millions rather than an HIV positive boxer who lived a good life, or a child who yes is another good choice to receive the kidney and might grow up to do something amazing or cause world peace but most likely shell grow up and work at stop & shop when we could have saved millions. The father should definitely not receive it because although he has 3 children, he could be beating them while hes wasted every night, because it says hes recovering but he may still be drinking but just not as much as he used to. He is also a bad example for his children and yes they might still love him even if hes a alcoholic but when he dies they are wealthy so they will get tons of money and i know "you can't buy love" but money helps a whole lot when you know you can buy whatever you want to cheer you up, and there is no stress of paying the bills or finding a job when he does die. So my decision was the scientist for the reason i stated above. The End

I think that the scientist should get the kidney. She should get it because she is on the verge in finding the cure for cancer. She didnt make herself sick. No one else will be able to carry on her work if she does die. Her only fault is being to old. If i could procrastinate her death in order to save millions of other i will do that.

The 40 year old guy shouldn't get the kidney cause it was his fault and he deserves what he gets even if he has 3 children. The athlete shouldnt get it because if he lives longer he might spread HIV to other people because it is incurable. I also dont think the little girl will give anything back to the world that is as important as curing cancer.

Mr. J this is the best website evaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

I think that the child should get the kidney. The kid would hopefully get a good education. And think of it as if the child is the fathers kid, and ur the father. Would you rather die for ur kid and let her live, or would you be selfish and take the kidney for yourself. I would rather die for my kid, i dont know about you. The child could probably change the future in someway......... i dont know how but she could use that extra chance she got and be able to help other people with the same problem. I didnt choose the doctor because she probably didnt work alone so someone else could probably finish the cure. I didnt pick the dad because it is saorta his fault hes and achoholic, i know he has 3 kids but he still doesnt get my vote. The boxer just doesnt get my vote, he got a disesase, his fault. TH is kool

Mr J, I believe that the scientist is the correct recipient for the transplant due to her extensive research on cancer. All we have to do is save this one lady and she can save the live of millions, curing cancer, something that may not be done for many years right now. She is old but not that old and people can live into their nineties which means she does have a possible 20 more years in her life. She is the most important person in the choices that has done much to help other people rather than herself. She has taken her life and devoted it to saving millions.

Mr J, you have no idea how angry it makes me that so many people are voting for the little girl basically because she is little and "has a life to live." I am very mad and I want people to realize that curing cancer is probably more important than a little girl with slim chance of doing something important with her life.

My site that gives the pros and cons of transplants is here.

I think that the the scientist should get the kidney. i think this because if seh were to find a cure for cancer she could save millions of lives. Also she could get a lot of recognition for such a great thing. and on top of that she would be adding a numerous amount of years to her life.

The child didn't get my vote because she hasn't really done anything outrageous to deserve it. Even thought she might have a possibilty to do something greatwith her life, you never know if she will.

I think the child should get the kidney because she has more time to live than the others. She hasn't harmed herself in any way. Shehasn't even gotten a chance to experience life. And whoknows she might make a hug impact on the world!

I think that the dad should get the kidney. He has three kids. They would be "supported" by the money, but thats no substitute for the father's love.

The Athlete has HIV. Giving him the kidney would serve to perpetuate HIV and AIDS. Is that what you wish to accomplish?

The doctor is old. How many times has someone been "on the verge" of discovering something. You can't tell in advance when you are going to find something like that!

In three weeks from tomorrow, I will have a cure for cancer!

Its not that easy. If it really is that simple, explain it to the next qualified scientist and go say hi to god. Your life work is done.

The little girl may grow up to be a great whatever:

REBUTTALS

"You can't have another person to carry on her work, you need the scientists to understand her own notes."

If she is ON THE VERGE, it cant be that complicated. She has to have a route in mind or she wouldn't be ON THE VERGE.

"She has only lived a short amount of time and hasn't experienced life."

"She has her whole life ahead of her."

Life expectancy is around 80. The father probably will live to around 70 because of alcoholism. Thats still a long time. What if the little girl suffocates on a tinkertoy or something?

Tinkerbell's answer sums up the entire reason you should all choose to save the dad.

"she still deserves the kidney"

Why? Are you saying she has more of a right to live that anybody else? That isn't really ethical from my point of view.

"The athlete will get the kidney from one of his fans"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Mr. J say that he wouldn't?

"It is a good bet that the scientist will discover the cure and save millions of lives other than just one or two"

How so? If she has a plan, it shouldn't be so convoluted that it can't be written down!

"it was his fault and he deserves what he gets even if he has 3 children"

You heartless little...

"The child didn't get my vote because she hasn't really done anything outrageous to deserve it."

AMEN!

I beleive that the little girl deserves to get the kidney. I think this because she has the longest life in front of her. She has no other health issues. The little girl has also lived a healthy life so far and I beleive that she will take the best care of her kidney. The little girl also not a wealthy as the other possible receivers and can not pay for another one. I also decided to pick her by process of elimination. I was debating about picking the alcoholic father, but decided not to because he could have liver failure because of his drinking problem. He was also rich so I think that the children would have a home to go to and money to take care of themselves. The boxer is HIV positive so I do not think that he should get the kidney because he is already very sick. I do not think that the older woman should get the kidney either because she has lived her live and even though she is on the verge of curing cancer that does not mean that she will cure cancer. I am sure that she has written down many of her conclusions as well and another scientist might be able to pick up where she left off. That is some of the reasons that I chose the little girl.

I strongly believe that the woman scientist should get the transplant kidney. I mean think about it, she is soooo close to finding the cure for cancer. She almost has it! If we give the kidney to her, then she could end up saving millions and millions of people with cancer. The scientist also deserves to receive the kidney because she has a very important role in society, and her accomplishments could improve life on earth as we know it. I also believe the scientist should have the kidney because she will also educate the people about donating kidneys and the major help they contribute. Obviously, the scientist would earn a lot of money, so she would donate some to an organization for donor kidneys. Also, since she experienced the transplant process she would be able to tell the people how horrible it was. The alcoholic, single parent with two kids should not receive the kidney because he is rich and the kids will get a great deal of that money. The boxer with AIDS already experienced his fame and made a good fortune and made himself famous already, so all he could possibly do from living is educating people. Now I feel really bad for the little girl, but I don’t think she deserves it either because there is no guarantee that she will make something amazing of herself. Click Here

I would choose either the father or the little girl. The father because he is a recovering alcoholic and he has 3 kids that he needs to learn how to take care of. The girl because she has a long life to live, and who knows what she can do with her life later. The father is obviously working to become a better person, and he deserves a second chance-his kids depend on him. The little girl hasnt even experienced the best parts of life yet, and she deserves to see them. I didnt give it to the scientist because no to be mean or anything, but she's going to die anyway. Plus, they've been looking for a cure for cancer for years, and I doubt she is all of a sudden going to find one. One mistake, and her "cure" will be completely ruined.MY LINK ( go to paragraph titled: The Pros and Cons of Living Donor Liver Transplant)

Happy First Day of December !

Dear Mr J. im really sorry about this being late, something with my router was extremely messed up, and my internet was down. ill talk to you about it on monday...anyway...I believe the scientist should recieve the transplant. This woman, is on the verge of something remarkable that saves millions. No scientist could ever truly follow her line of thought and her work exactly. If she died because she did not recieve an organ, the potential to save millions would die as well. Also, this scientist DESERVES it, because she has dedicated her life to try to make the lives of others happier and healthier. I think that the dad should get the kidney because he did not live a good, responsible life. He has succeeded all he will in life and not given back to people around him. Although his kids would be left behind and be saddened, they would be able to continue their lives

nucelotide's comments on each recipient

1. little girl...many of you are saying because the little girl is seven and has not lived a long life, she should get the kidney so she can experience life...but i want to point out something. she is only 7 and has a kidney failure, just because she gets a kidney transplant, it does not mean she will become better. she has a long life ahead of her with the kidney transplant but think about the future complications she might have and all the pain and suffering she might have to go through. i dont mean to offend anyone with this question but do you think she might have a better chance of happiness if she just dies and gets reborn into another life?

2.athlete, although the athlete has HIV, it does not say where he got it from so it shouldn't be assumed that he got it from drugs or a unprotected sex, he could have gotten it through a blood transfusion or something. and athletes today are a very important part of our culture. many famous athletes are the people who kids idolize and look as role models. if this was a famous athlete like derek jeter or something that has millions of fans looking up to him, do u think it would make a difference? but i have to admit, out of all recipients, this athlete would be on the bottom of my list.

3. rich guy...this would be the recipient i would choose. jsut because he is rich, it doesnt mean he fits into the rich stereotype and doesnt deserve to get the kidney. also he is a recovering alcoholic which means he is trying to change so i dont think he will beat his children. and the fact that he is a single parent with 3 children really makes me sympathize for the children.

4. old lady..yeah she is a scientist and has probably used most of her life to cure cancer..but come on! shes 74! even if she does get the kidney, no offense to old people (i love my grandma a lot but be realistic), shes probably gonna need something else very soon. i mean recovering from an organ transplant probably takes a long time..im guessing...and during that time shes probably not gonna get to research much in bed. and besides..shes on the verge of curing cancer, how close is that really? and im sure she isnt the only one working on the cure the cancer thing, she has to have people who can take over her research for her. scientists are realistic, they know they probably arent gonna cure cancer in one lifetime. and a woman who used her whole life trying to cure someone elses, i think, would gladly give the kidney to someone else.

This is an easy blog. The scientist should be getting the transplant. Cancer kills millions a year. For me, it's a choice of one or millions. The Official Site (c)
