The Foods We Eat...

As consumers… of both the biological and the economic kind, we grow up hearing all sorts of messages about the foods we eat. The messages from parents, friends, teachers, health care professionals, and the media are omnipresent.

We must eat… but can choose to: be vegan, graze through the day, follow the FDA’s recommendations, eat comfort foods, eat out , eliminate fat, increase fiber, order in, pig out, eat three squares, and be sure we hydrate… the possibilities are endless. We can count calories, measure our BMI, do Weight Watchers, count points, or exercise daily.

To add to the confusion are new technologies that create new challenges. Are the foods we eat: Organic? Transgenic? Genetically modified? Free range? Processed? Does it matter? Does it matter to you? As consumers do we have the right to know if and how the foods we eat have been altered in any way?
