ooh, Mr.Johnson getting risque with this topic!

I personally think it might be a blend of both creationism and evolution.

Time to see our religious buffs!

hi kevinchen !

i don't know if risque is the word that i would use...but certainly a topic of interest to many people, and most certainly the lines have been drawn prior to this blog posting.
However, to respectfully express yourself to the class is a major purpose of these blog assignments. As I see it, you may have the majority or the minority opinion, and still feel comfortable to represent your view politely w/o fear of being ridiculed by other members of the class.

i believe that creationism and evolution can co-exist. my opinion is that all things are created by a higher power, God. evolution of people, animals and all living things are effected by God in his plan for life. I think schools should teach about evolution-by explaining that it is something in direct relation to, Gods plan for life. Though, i do not think this is likely to happen because people are so diverse, and some will not accept it.

I think that God and evolution can coexist but people have different opinions and you can't just force students to believe in creationism or evolution. People come from different backrounds and if someone grew up as a devout Catholic, he or she would find the theory of evolution a little harder to believe because God created us to his own image. Others might find evolution more believable because there is a lot of evidence to prove it. Students should know and learn about both Creationism and evolution, and have the choice to decide what they believe in.

i think that schools shouldnt teach creationism just like the book says. even though many people believe in creationism, evolution should be taught in public schools because its good to know both views of a controversial topic like this. I agree that God and evolution can coexist...why not? to me a religious view and a science view are very different and i think its good to have people with differing opinions. everybody is never going to agree with this, or any, topic unanimously so i dont see why God and evolution cant coeexist. My advice is to get used to that cuz that isnt going to change, not for a long long time anyway.

i think that creationism and evelution can coexist. i personally believe that there is no higher power and that everything came along from evelution but i under stand creationism and it could make sense to people. and i think by teaching both in public schools it will be a good thing because its a combination of what people believe and so they can agree on some level i guess.
creationism vs. evelution?

in my opinion, schools should teach evolution and yet also teach that the students may believe in whatever they want. i do think agree that god and evolution can coexist. even though the ideas are completely different they can coexist. there shouldn't be a contraversy over them. poeple have minds and can believe what they want. only they can change what they believe.

My personal opinion about creation is a combination of both God and evolution. In my theory, there had to be someone or something to start everything off. Like, "what caused the 'big bang?'" EXACTLY my point. I believe that God created the first organisims, planets, elements, the first everything(s) and gave it the ability to evolve. Thus, creationisim and evolution both are half-correct, and both play their role in the begining of life. That's just my thaoughts on the subject.

I believe that creationism and evolution can coexist. i believe that God created the first animals and plants. but after that evolution takes over. Schools should teach both creationism and evolution. maybe offer each as a seperate class. many people grew up believing in creationism and it would be hard to convince them that all along it was wrong. only the person themself can choose wat they believe. by offering two classes they can decide for themselves. otherwise they may only learn bout evolution and never hear about creationism and not be able to make a conscious decision.

I believe creationism and evolution can coexist, but not in the public school systems. I think if parents want religion to be an essential part of of their children's lives then a private school that teaches religion would be a better match, or an after school religious education program. Public schools have a diverse population and it would not be possible to address every religion, which would be unfair to some of the students. As it is now, schools do not celebrate holidays, halloween has been replaced with a fall festival, Christmas with a winter carnival, etc. So although I think they can coexist, I do not think they can in a public school.

This is my website to support my statement

Personally, I think people can reach a common ground and evolution and creationism can co-exist. However, due to my beliefs, I believe in creationism with God. Even though, I'm still all for settling the dispute with both theories. As for schools, I think teachers should keep teaching evolutionism. I went to a Catholic school for 10 years, and the only thing we learned was creationism. That should be the only exception - in a Christian/Catholic school, or in church-related classes. Otherwise, it may become a contraversial topic with many students learning creationism as well (since they might not believe in God).
linkageee.

I believe that it should not be taught. If public schools cant teach about God, why should they be able to talk about the other side. I do not believe God and evolution can coexist. I believe they are completely opposing each other. One side says God made everything, the other says we came from monkeys. I can see how some things evolved from other but I believe it still started with God. Here is a site that supports my opinion.

1. I think it is a blend of both the creation of God and evolution, but more heavily weighted on the creation of God. I think when God created everything on the earth, they didn't look exactly like they do now. There is a lot of evidence that suggessts that almost every organism has evolved, so it is hard to disagree with it. Though I think there was some evolution, I don't think we all started out as apes. We probably looked similar to what we look like now, and evolved a little bit over time.

2. Yes I do think they can coexist. With all the evidence out there, there probably was a little bit of evolution in humans, but not from apes to humans.

3. Creationism and Evolution Can Coexist

I believe only in creationism. Due to the fact that I am religious, I have come to know this better then evolution. Yea, sometimes I think evolution can happen, but again do to my beliefs I still say it is God that does these things. I have no problem with having evolution being taught in public schools. I think if anything, they should put both creationism and evolution in public schools and you can choose to take them as a class or not. Then you do not have to take the class if you don't want to or you can if you do.

I believe that creationism and evolution can coexist. They each eventually come to a common ground. I personally, I believe that God created everything. Also that through creating everything he has allowed for evolution to occur. It can be proved that evolution occurred, meaning that you can't really go against that "theory."

Yes, I believe that creationism and evolution and coexist, with the exception of the curriculum taught in public schools.

My opinion on creation is that it was both God and evolution. So yes i do believe evoution and God can coexist. I feel that God created people and animals and things like that. As well as plants. Its just in the end there are things that seem hard for God to have created. So that is why i think they can coexist.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

I don't think science teachers should teach creationism in their classes. I'm not saying it's not true, but there are people who don't believe in a God and they might not appreciate having lessons teaching them to believe in something that they don't. Personally, I think it's a combination of both. I mean, I believe in a that big bang and evolution stuff, but where did the elements come from that resulted in a bang? They could not possibly come out of nowhere, and that's where I put God into the picture. I think He made a couple atoms, and then what we refer to as science takes it from there. To me, this is the extent of His influence, because there were animals long before there were people, and God supposedly made them all within a few days of each other, which seems highly unlikely to me. If parents want their kids to learn about creation, they can go to catholic school or sunday school an learn about religion. Science should be kept in school, and religion in church. Teachers should mention that another theory exists, but they should not havbe to teach it.

I was particularly interested in the posting by JoeU.

I think creationism and evolution can co-exist. I believe in God. I think he created what eventually evolved into humans and other organisms. However, I think only evolution should be taught in public schools. Some people do not believe in a God. Also, it gives you a different approach away from your religion. Creationism can be taught at private schools and religion classes.

My opinion is that it is both the creation of god and of evaloution. I believe that God made all of the firsts such as the first organisams but also i believe that evaloution does exist. Someone had to make the firsts and i believe that it was god. that is just my religious belief, i think that the book has a point and that it shouldnt just be evaloution that is taught in science class and that it should be both even if there are students who do not believe in it. God shouldnt be left out.

I believe that creationism and evolution can coexit. I believe that all things are created by God. In my opinion i think school should teach about creationsim and evolution but if they can't talk about that God created it then they shouldn't talk about it at all. Here is an article that supports my opinion....

The NAS feels that it is mandatory that the theory of evolution be taught in schools. Although there are many religious components that coincide with the theory of evolution, they feel that it can also be tied in with it. They are not excluding the religous aspect, but just tying in with evolution. They feel as though it is necessary to teach upon evolution because there is supposedly a substantial amount of evidence that contributes to the theory. They want to be able to share this with the youth, and feel that it is okay and will only produce a positive effect. I do not believe that they can coexist. As a christian, i have always been taught, and believe, that we all were brought upon this earth by the presence of God and his miracle working. I do not feel that a species as advanced as ours could've once existed as apes. It could've only come about through something so miraculous: God. In my opinion, the ape theory is a load of bolognaaa .

GOOD CHOICE OF TOPIC JOHNSON!!

I believe that both creationism and evolution can coexist. although i personally would choose creationism as my belief over evolution, it is possible for coexistance between these two things. I however, do not think that they should teach creationism and evolution together in school. That is unfair to the people who do not believe in creationism. If someone wants to learn about creationism , then they can research it, they shouldnt have to take a class about it if they dont believe in it. I believe that God created the earth and had influence on everything in existance but i believe that God gave all things the change to evolve and adapt. these are my views on the matter.

lol. i love malena.....hahahaha. kinda harsh??

do you think you're cool, llama, posting twice? well you're NOT. bye.

Yes, i do agree with that statment. I believe they coexist. I think that God created like outerspace and then some how planned things out. He like planned for evoultion. I definately think people evovled. Cause i dont think he just like magically made them appear. To me God controls everything. He plans out things to happen. He controls fate. But you cant conrtol what happens to you or what you do wheter you realize it or not. So God created the existence of evoultion. For a school to teach it i dont know about because people may not believe the same as me or someone else.
god created evouliton

In a minimum of 5 complete sentences react to / reflect on the information that the NAS has just published about teaching evolution in public schools.

Evolution should't be taught in schools. If you really care about your religion, go the extra mile and enroll in privet school. Evolution doesn't go along with many religions. Christianity believes that the world started with humans, not monkies. Evolution and carbon dating determined the world is 3 billion years old, but the bible, from counting timelines and family trees, states the world is 10,000-11,000 years old.
God and evolution can sometimes coexist. Adam and Eve weren't monkies. I do believe that animals change over a long period of time to get more adaptive to the changing world.

Not sure why but link didn't work.
Anyways this one works.

I believe that God and evolution can co-exist. I believe that God puts every organism on the earth and has a reason for everything. I think that schools should teach both creatism and evolution but the teacher should stay neutral when teaching the topic. The students can believe whatever they want but I think that they should know about both beliefs. If only one is taught then it seems like it is favored over the other. They should both be taught or none of them should be taught, not just one.

Good Morning !

I think creationism and evolution can coexist. i personaly believe in the theory of a higher power and evolution helped along the way. but i can see if people believe in total evolution. i think that teaching both in public schools would be a good idea because doing so would not force kids to believe in 1 or the other. we should definately change what we are teaching young kids now a days.

ok i believe that eveloution should be tought in public schools it carries the most truth.if theystarted preaching "GOD" in public schools i would drop out get my GED and call it a day. BUT.... if you had a choice between which course you would like to take i'd be ok with that.i think that they can coexist in the same school but not so much in the same classroom.

Dear MR J,
EVOLUTIONISM IS A LOAD OF
(for lcak of a better apropiate word) POOP!!! I have been raised by a strong christian family, soo i belive that creation is true. God created the world as he did for his own reasons. Personaly i find it to be stupid that people think im realted to monkeys, dont get me wrong i like monkeys but there is a reason that i dont live in a zoo and they do. I think schools should AT LEAST teach both sides of the story. I belive that both theories can coexist but for a limmited time.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth

I think that NAS creating this book was a great idea to calm the controversy of teaching and for some believing evolution. This book may have some effect to soften the controversy, but i don't think it will end it all together. I personally accept the theory of evolution without any complaint and always thought that i didn't have to decide between science and religion. Though I am also religious and do believe that may be a mix between creationism and evoulution. Hopefully this book may settle the controversy of teaching evoulution in public school because it agrees with both a science and religious side to the creation of humans.

I agree that evolution and creationism can coexist.

evolution and creationism can coexist

i think teaching evolution is essential. it is biology class. not religion class. or equality class, nor ethic class or moral class. there is a place to teach religion. and its not in a biology class.
i dont believe they can coexist, because they are opposite polarities.

I think learning about evolution would be really interesting and more understandable. i do believe in god but some of it makes no sense. the thing with evolution is that it seems like it actually happened and it has evidence to prove it. I think that evolution should be taught in schools.

I agree because some of the things do make more sense together then they do alone.
