Inaffective Antibiotics?


Swedish researchers have reported in the latest issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases that birds captured in the hyperboreal tundra carried bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. What could this mean for future health care?

The researchers think that immigrating birds passed through Southeast Asia, a region of much antibiotic resistance. These birds carried the antibiotic resistant bacteria to the tundra. This information shows that no part of the world is unaffected by this phenomenon.
