The Vegatarian Finch is the least likely to compete with the other finches because it is the only finch to eat buds and fruits and all the other finches have other sources of food.

An organelle is like an organ in a body but it is in a cell. They control certian things that take place in a cell.

What is the difference between autotroph and heterotroph?
 
An autotrph is an organism that can make its own food, a heterotroph depends on others for its food.

Describe gel electrophoresis.
 
Gel Electrophoresis can be used to seperate DNA and group them according to size. First restricting enzymes cut the DNA in a specific area. Next it is put in wells and an electric current goes though the water. The electricity pushes the DNA strand farther if it is a smaller strand and closer if it is a larger strand.

In which stage of mitosis does the centrioles go to opposite ends of the cell?
 
gel electrophoresis is also known as running the DNA. A gel is made and placed in "trays". Then DNA is placed in the trays. Then the gel is run through and electronic field. From there you get a series of lines...these are the DNA. The densest parts stay closer to the negative sides while the smaller lines move to the positive end. This helps to identify and characterize DNA.

What is biodiversity?
 
Biodiversity is having many different species of plants and animals in an area. This helps increase the length that an ecosystem can survive. Organisms occupy different niches and feed on certain organisms. Also, if there were to be some sort of disruption, the diversity of organisms would make it so that some organisms would survive and eventually restore the ecosystem.

Why do hormones affect only certain cells in the body? Why not all of them?
 
Hormones only affect certain cells because they have a specific shape. The cell must have a receptor that the hormone fits into for the hormone to have an effect on the cell. If the cell doesn't have the right receptor, the hormone will just bounce off and have no effect.

How does a species become resistant to something like a pesticide?
 
when the pesticide is first sprayed it kills most but not all of the insects. the insects that survive are naturally resistant and live to reproduce. eventually that pesticide will become useless.

What is a selecting factor?
 
yes mr ng they are naturally resistant... but where does that resistance come from... it comes from the variation in their genes.. it is a genetic resistance.

Selecting factor is like natural selection. You need to have the best factors for survival so you can live and reproduce.

Protein synthesis is the transcription and translation of specific parts of DNA to form proteins.

How and when mutations can be passed onto offspring?
 
Mutations can only be passed on if they occur in a gamete because the offspring gets its genetic information from it. Mutations in somatic cells can't be passed on to offspring.

How do indicators work?
 
indicators work by having differant chemicals on the test strip and when these chemicals interact with certin chemical of a substance there is a reaction on the test strip notifying you if there is or is not that chemical presant.

why can some particle pass through a barrier and some cannot?
 
Some can pass through a barrier because the membrane is permeable which means it allows things to pass through the membrane. If something semi-permeable it only allows certain things to pass through it.

What is a parasitic relationship, a mutalism relation and a commensulism relation?
 
A parasitic relationship is one in which one organism benefits from the interaction and the other is negatively affected. In commensalism one organism benefits and the other is neither harmed nor does it benefit. In mutualism both organisms derive a benefit from the relationship.

How do indicators work?
 
indicators are used to find a certain substances such as starch. You have a container filled with something. if u want to see if starch is present u use that indicator. If the starch is present the indicator will turn a different color when put in.

Mutualism is the type of symbiosis in which both parties benefit. An example of this would be the boxer crab and the anemone in its claws.

How does a species become resistant to a factor/substance?
 
I LOVE COCO!!
A species becomes resistant to a factor/substance when a small group of genetically resistant members of that species reproduces while the non-resistant members just die off. Eventually, the resistant members of the spcies become the majority and makes the species resistant to the factor/substance. This is kind of exactly like eye's question!(Sorry for the bad explanation).

Explain the difference between a biome and an ecosystem.
 
the difference between a biome and an ecosystem is that a biome is much bigger. There can be many ecosystems in a biome. A biome is a very large area like the tundra or the coniferous forests. Ecosystems are a dynamic interaction between everything in the environment.
