1. I believe we should be concerned with the quality of animals we use for food. This should be very important because these are things going into our bodies. If we pick a random animal it may have many diseases we could develope. I also think we need to decrease the amount of medicine we give to these animals. I think this because if some of this is left over we may cook the meat eat it and become ill.

One very good reason is the animals may become resistant to the antibiotics and this could cause a problem in the future. I belive that we do have an obligation to ensure the survival of all species on our planet. I feel very strongly for animal rights. I do not mind the use of animals for their stamina as ling as we do not abuse it or overworl them. I also do not mind having them as pets but also as lond as they are not mistreated. The biggie is us using them for food or other materials. I understant that to feed such huge populations of people that breeding animals to be eaten is necessary but it should be done as humainly as possible and NOTHING from the animal should be wasted. Lastly I feel that it is more than an obligation to ensure the surival of every species. I also think it is not a matter of animal rights because every species that dies out can directly effect us. If mulitple species of major importance could jepordise our very survival.

This site gives a diccription of how each type of animal is slaughtered industrally. It also tells of studies of if the animas feel pain when they are being slaughtered. Lastly it explains that supposidly painless processes dont always work.

It is a win win situation the human gets a companion and isn't lonely and the animals gets shelter, love, food, and compassion. However, i feel that it is not ok to use animals for food, becasue there are other sources of food that we can obtain. It is also not ok to use animals for fashion, we do not need them to make clothes, we don not need to kill animals for clothes. For entertainment im on both sides, it depends on what they do. If they have a good family adn they are not over worked or abused i think tis ok, but if they treat the animal with no respect i don not think its ok.

I believe we do have an obligation to ensure the continuation off all species on the planet. I believe we must ensure the continuation of all species in order to continue an natural balance of life on earth. If we didn't do that there might be an extreme overpopulation of birds which could eat all the bees on earth. If that happened all plant life on earth would die and there would be no food left. I believe the only reason we should not help them survive is if they are becoming extinct because of natural causes.

As people we take full responsibility for the care and protection of our pets. We need to show pets love and kindness like anyone else. Pets are not able to do things like we can, for example, dogs can not go to the bathroom inside because if they did, we would get mad at them, so it is our responsibility to walk them and take them outside. We also need to feed them because they can not cook and we do not give them a chance to go out and hunt. We should not abuse our animals either. If you do not have time or care for your pet you should not just leave it there to fend for itself, you should tell people, organizations like the ASPCA and they will rather take the pet and find someone who can take care of them, then have them suffer. If we see any animal in trouble we should try to help it unless we are putting ourselves or others in danger, then there are special people to call to deal with any kind of situation.

PETA

PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. PETA works on many cases every year about animal rights and abuse on animals. All different animals all over the world suffer some kind of abuse and not many people know or care. Different organizations like PETA are spreading the word about animal rights and why it is important to protect and help them all, no matter who they are.

Using animals for companionship is certainly alright. If you are alone and having your pet with you is what makes you feel better.. im all for it. I love talking to my dog, knowing that she wont answer just makes it that much easier to just keep going and not have to stop. Having my pet for food.. hmm ? I would have to think about that one for a while. Well actually no. I wouldnt go right along and eat my dog but we have to eat some kind of meat and meat is in animals so. For fashion, i would have to say no!!! You could use the animal print, just not the animals actual skin or fur. That is just torture. Well for entertainment, i would have to say as long as the animal doesnt get hurt, burned, killed, posioned or abussed. i would say its all good. For research isnt that bad, but if it really needs to be done, i guess do it.

Dead Animals for Fashion

This website is against the use of animals for fashion. I am against it to. I mean even though i wore a leapard print to school today, it wasnt real fur. I could never risk an animals innocent life for something to wear.

Using animals for compainionship is ok and is actually ideal. When an animal is treated right and fairly in its household then the relationship is beneficial for both the animal and the person. The animal is taken care of and the person is getting a friend.
I think using animals for food is perfectly fine as long as they aren't treated inhumaely. Animals are fed horrible food, treated badly and neglected. Even when they are slaughetered the food we take from them, it is made unhealthy. Animals are here so they can supply us with food and otherwise there would be an overpopulation of animals. However, people don't seem to realize that animals are living beings and deserve to be treated as any of us should be treeated. For these matters I'm a vegetarian.
Using animals for clothing is ok in some situations. I completely disagree with just killing an animal to use its fur. I find that to be wrong. Would you want to wear a coat made of humans? I don't think anyone would, so why should we use animals? However, when an animal is killed and each part of it is utlized then that's ok. Like when the native americans made clothes and tools and homes out of the animals and ate all their meat. They never tortured and overfed those animals, they just took what nature had given them how it was. As for using animal prints to inspire fashion, I think that is ok. It shows that people like how animals look and care to make fake fur and stop using real fur.
Using animals for entertainment is ok if the animal is having fun too. Shows on animal planet are good examples of an ok form of entertainment because you can tell that the animals are ok with it too.
Using animals for reserch, as many other things, can be ok and bad. It all just depends on how the animal is treated. We can't force an animal to do something it doesn't want to just because we have the ability to. If an animal is used to do reserch on something we want to find out about humans, I think that is wrong. I understand that we use lab rats and such to discover things that will work on humans, but just because they are smaller and have a smaller brain, doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to live. Reserch can be ok though when the animals are not harmed in any way.

This site's goal is to put an end to animal cruelty. They argue that rely on animals and therefore they should not be treated badly. It also gives links to other sites that are fighting against animal cruelty.

I feel it is alright to use animal as companions, because if someone is treating their pet well, then it's alright to use them as a form of companionship. Pets also help people who may be lonely. I feel also though it is alright to use animals as food because humans need to survive too and animals are a good source of protien. I feel the animals killed for food should be killed in humane ways. Animals should not be used as fashion because killing animals is wrong if it is not for a necessary reason. I feel it is alright for animal print and faux fur to be used, but it is not alright to use real fur. I feel animals can be used for entertainment as long as it is not harming the animal and I feel research should only be donE on animals if it is absolutely necessary and that it doesn't harm the animal.
Animals as Companions

This website explores the health benefits of having pets. It is shown that older people with pets go to the doctor less. People are more likely to live longer after they have a hear attack if they have a pet. PetS also help with psychological health because people feel more comfortable talking to animals than they do humans.

We are smarter than most animals and most people know whats right and wrong. The continuation of species is affected by us. We can pollute or such things as kill. Or we can encourage the species and let them live healthy and safely. I only agree with animals being used for campionship. All living things need comfort, it doesnt matter if mammal or animal. I find animals to be used as pets is only okay if they are treated very well. I am against animal abuse , or things like clothing made of animal skin. Those are unneccary materials that we can make do without. We can use other things like cotton. Research does make animals very useful. We should be concerened with the animals raised for the human population because they affect us.

For my topic I chose the question "Do we have an obligation to ensure the continuation of all species on the planet?" To answer this question simply and quickly I would simply say yes. This is not as simple as it seams. There are many reasons for this. Most any animal that we got rid of in the world would harm our way of life in some aspect. If for instance we decided to get rid of the organism Lumbricus terrestris, the common earthworm, at first we may not find any problem with this. Instead it would make a shortage of plants because its burrowing helps fertilize the ground and allow more oxygen to reach the roots of plants. These could be plants that we eat, or plants that some animal we use for food eats. Most any animal will be helpful to us humans so we should definatley help save any animals that we possibly can. If we lose any single animal we will lose a cycle that will affect many different organisms.

Nature Serve

Nature serve was set up to help all endangered species. It works both in the United States to help keep endangered species from reaching extinction. It also teams up with other groups to protect all the species of the world.
 

Using animals for companionship is definitely alright because a lot of people depend on pets as their family. Eating animals is perfectly fine to but only to a certain extent. When people eat animals I think they should not waste any part of it because a human would not be to happy if almost their whole body was thrown away and was thought to be worthless. I am totally against animal used for fashion whether their skin is used for coats, their tusks are used for jewelery or even if they are still alive and carried in purses it is still not right. That animal is a living thing and they should be treated fairly. I believe in animals being used for entertainment unless their training is dangerous. It is nice to see the dolphin and whale shows and lions and elephants in the circus. I just hope they are treated properly because if they are being hurt I am totally against it, like in dog fighting. That is not enjoyable that is sick! I have no idea who enjoys those kinds of things. I don't believe in research on animals, people should just let them be and leave them alone unless their species is dying out.

I totally agree with this website. Animals are alive just like humans, if you are going to test a product on an animal you might as well test it on your neighbor to because they are both living creatures. Just because they look different doesn't make another one worthless.

I think that using animals for companionship is OK. If you treat your pet right, I think that it is good for an aniaml, not to mention you. Depending on the animal, I think that is OK to use animals as food. A lot of people have to eat meat to get protein and other nutrition. If the animal is a cow and it was raised properly, I think that is fine. On the other hand, if it was a dog, I don't think that is good. I think that using animals for fashion, like fur and other things, is wrong. I just don't like the idea of killing an animal just to get it's fur. Using animals for entertainment is fine, unless the entertainment involves animals fighting each other to the death. Using animals for research can go either way. If someone is on the verge of finding a cure for a major disease, but if it doesn't work, it will kill whatever just used it, then I think it is OK to use an animal for research. But if the research is on something not that inportant, then I din't think it is OK.

Using Animals For Medical Research

This site shows some of the ways that using animals for medical research is beneficial. Some of the ideas on this website I totally agree with, but others are questionable. Either way, this site shows how animals have helped many people by being used to see if a type of medicine works.

Animals are already growing to small numbers because of pollution and they are losing their habitats and some animals are becoming sick and are dying because of the pollution. In a few years, there might not be a sufficient number of "food animals" left to suffice the human population.
 

I believe that using animals for companionship is perfectly fine. Both the human, and animal get something out of this. The animal has an owner to play with, and the owner has a companion. I think that using animals for food is ok depending on the situation. For example, meat gives us protein, so in a way it is necessary to use some animals as a food source, however i do not think it is ok to take this too far. There has to be a limit on how many animals are killed, and making sure they are not tortured, or cruelly killed. Using animals for fashion is wrong in my opinion. Not all fashionable clothes have to be made from parts of an animal. There is several other clothes to wear. Using animals for research is something that i agree and disagree with. I think it is good to use animals just in case something goes wrong, then millions of people are not killed, but then again i do not think this can be considered right. The topic I am responding to is what responsibility do we have for the lives of our pets?

We have all the responsibility for our pet's lives. We feed them. We wash them.We make sure they've had there shots so they do not get sick.We give them love.And we make sure that they are pretected from preators and harsh weather.For example - Dogs cant not clean there own teeth, so it is our responcibility to get them to the vet, to get them cleaned. If you take ownership of a pet you need to take care of it, just like you would your little brother or sister. You have to keep track of it and show it compassion.If for any reason you can not take care of your pet, instead of mistreating it purposly give it to a local shelter, the ASPCA , or if you know of an animal being abused you should call PETA.

The ASPCA is a good site to view if you have questions about your pet. It teaches you how to take care of your pet, and if youve found a stray how to get it to one of there local shelters, It also informs you how to adopt an animal from one of there shelters.The ASPCA makes sure then animals there are going to good homes.
 

I think that people who own any pet, dog =), cat, fish, rabbit, should always take care of it. abusing or neglating of any kind to a pet is just cruel. Any person who has a pet but they feel they just cant handle it anymore should give it to someone they trust or to a shleter. They should never, EVER leave it on the street to die. Also, all pets deserve some rights because some can feel like people to older adults. Especially if they had a spouse die, or just feel lonely because then they could have someone to love again.

I believe that we do have an obligation to keeping the animal population alive. If any one animal dies out, then the entire animal population will be wiped out, and humans will most likely become extinct. The food chain would be thrown out of proportion if any one species were to suddenly die out, or to become extinct. Humans wouldn't have enough food to sustain life, and therefore every living organism on the planet would eventually die out.

Companionship is a major one, animals can be very good companions to humans. I think we should be able to have pets. Also, food is a definite. We are humans and need meat in our diets. Of course we can use other sources to supply us our protein and such, but we could still eat animals. I believe we should be able to use some animals for fashion. If they are overpopulated, or even just that there is enough of them, we should be able to use them for fashion. But, if they are endangered, we should protect them and try to get them back up in numbers. Research I think is something that should be used more. If animals can provide the information needed to save human lives, or even just end some sort of human suffering or discomfort, we should do it. I think that they aren't as feeling and complex as us, therefore they could help us in many ways. In conclusion, I have mixed ideas on animal rights. I think that we should treat some more fairly and some we can still use for research etc.. All animals should be treated humanely no matter what the purpose of the animal is.

i believe that the use of animals for food is necessary, but not for clothes and entertainment.Animals should not be used in entertainment. If the animal is taken care of well and is not used for dangerous stunts then it is okay. But if the animals are abused and their lives are put at risk it is not. Some animals do have the right to not be used for food. Any animals that are meat or any type of food we need to survive don't have rights, but ones that are rarely killed for food do. I think that using animals for companionship is okay. It’s alright if you treat them with respect and care but if you’re cruel to them, it’s not okay. Using certain animals for foods is also okay. Chickens and cows are good sources of food from animals. I also think that factory farmed foods are not okay and we need to do something about this way of treating animals. Killing innocent animals for fashion is also not good. Faux fur is way better to use, and it looks the same but it doesn’t hurt the animals. Animals can be very entertaining, but using them for the wrong kind of entertainment is terrible. One example of bad animal entertainment is dog fighting. This causes harm to the dogs when there is no need for it. I personally don’t like the idea of using animals for research purposes but if it is going to save many lives then I guess its okay.

I believe having a pet is a big responsibility. Pets have basic needs like children and adults. Pets need to be fed a well diet, exercise, and socially healthy. If one is to have a pet, they must take the time to help the pet carry out tasks that it cannot do just itself. Overall, pets can be very fun, and give much company, but they also need the proper love and caring from the owner.
