Yes, we have an obligation ensure the continuaion of all species on the planet. Each species has a special role in our ecosystem. If all the bees died; then flowers wouldnt be pollunated; which would kill them. If all the predators in our ecosystem die; then the animal population would grow out of control. If all the spiders died; the insect population wqould grow out of control. Every single organism is important to the maintenece of or ecosystem' size, shape and other features make no difference. Another reason why we must preserve the life of all organims on the planet is that we are the dominant race. It would be inhumane to wipe out every species of organisms that are nuisance. If we were to do that, there would be disagreement on which organisms are a nusiance and which aren't. Personally, I think animals should have certain rights. I believe that some domesticated animals can be used for companionship and others shouldn't. I think it is okay to eat them for food. It's only fair for us to eat animals because animals eat other animals all the time, it is a part of the infamous circle of life. Animals and fashion is a different story. I don't think designers should use real fur and animal parts in their clothes. Even though I personally think that they look really cute I wouldn't want to wear and flaunt something that I know has been made because of a poor defenseless animals' death. I think animal entertainment is fine. I mean as long as they aren't harming their animals too severely, I think animal entertainment isn't a big problem. I believe we depend on animals for research. I think we need them to test things on, even though a lot of people would say it is wrong I personally think it would be necessary for us to test products and what not on animals.

I think it is ok to have animals as companions. Both us and the animals benefit from the relationship. It is not ok though when you do not give them respect, and don't care for them. I don't feel comfortable eating meat. No matter how well you have treated them they are still going to get killed. There are other alternatives without having to eat meat. If you do eat meat you should treat the animals with respect and use every part of the animal. I don't think you should use animals in fashion or entertainment because it is a silly way to portray them that does not give the animal respect. You should definitly not use animals in research. Why should you kill an animal to test products for human use. Even when we test medicines on them it isn't the same because they do not have the same body as humans. If you wouldn't do any of these things to your pets then why would you do them to other animals even if you have never seen them.

I do not think that we have an obligation to keeping the animals from becoming extinct naturally. But, if it is us killing them off to endanger and eventually extinguish them, then it is wrong. But, if for example one species of were to be killed off because they were at the bottom of the food chain (and not because we used their meat), then it would not be our fault. I think that we should not feel obligated to help animals in a way like this unless we first took care of all the animals that we mistreat and use for food. An example of this is in the henhouses of California.

I believe that we should be concerned with the quality of life of those animals that we raise to feed the human population. The animals before they are killed should be able to live the life of any other animal that is not going to be killed for the use of food. Let me put it this way, if you were an animal that people killed to eat (now I am not talking about cannibalism, I am talking about an animal like a cow, or a pig)and you did not know that you were going to killed in the near future, wouldn't you want to live your life to the fullest extent? I know that I would want to live my life to the fullest, and I would also want all the other animals to be able to experience this. I do not believe that we should not eat meat though, I believe it is the circle of life. Just like the cow eats the grass and we eat the cow.

My opinion may contradict itself a tad but, i rather be honest and a bit confusing, than lie and sound smart. anywho, i think it is perfectly normal to have domesticated animals as pets. As long as you treat them with love and care, i think its perfectly fine. And, ontop of that, if you save your pet from a shelter, it just makes it that much better :) Eating animals, as food .. is where i start to become a little bit confusing. i think its ok to eat animals, such as chicken, or cow. i don't agree with torturing them and having them live with unbearable conditions, but as horrible as this may sound, i agree with killing animals to eat. i feel so horrible saying that, but i couldn't stop eating meat, so i'm not going to sit here and lie. In my opinion, its like the food chain, everyone eats something, that eat them. besides well .. humans, no one really eats us, but whatever, i think you catch my drift. I think we should be concerned with the quality of life of those animals raised to feed the human population. Even though they are animals, they still do not deserve to be treated badly. Being cruel to animals just because they are going to be used for food is immoral and wrong. They can still feel pain and cannot protect themselves from us. I think it is okay to use animals for food, though. It is just the food chain at work. Animals kill and eat each other to survive and I think we should be allowed to do the same thing.
Although they should not be treated badly, I also don't believe that they should have all the same right as people. I found this article very interesting and found that I agreed with it. This article talks about how animals are not like us, despite similarities. They exhibit behavior that is seen as human-like, but is only a response that is genetically inherited. Many philosophers say that animals should only be given the same rights as humans if they understand the concept of their rights, which they don't.

They are sharing this planet and their homes with us and we should preserve them for as long as we can. It is mainly our fault that most of these animals are dying anyway. Animal rights . . .a very diverse topic that can apply to every student in one way or another. I believe that animals deserve several rights, and as humans we have an obligation to impose and follow those rights. We as a race are obviously of higher intelligence than the other organisms around us. For my topic question I choose : Do we have an obligation to ensure the continuation of all species on the planet? The answer is yes. As previously stated, we are of a higher intelligence and therefore are obligated to care for all lower life forms. Also, the circle of life comes into play. This refers to a unique concept that everything relies on everything, and everything is connected to everything. That means without some organims the human race may die out. Most people are ignorant of this fact, but it is true. Some of the smallest organisms are vital for our existence as a race. Also, by preserving other organisms, we can learn and grow by using them in HUMANE ways of research. The continuation of humans relies on the existence of everything else.

Although this link is pro-vegetarian, it still imposes some similar ideologies to myself. Animals should be able to live in clean open environments. Second, if we treat animals more brutally, then we will be more brutal in more than one way in our lives. Animals have the right to live, and we must follow that right.

Animals definitely have rights and I believe as the dominant species on the planet we sometimes forget that. I believe it is alright to have an animal as a companion if you treat them right. Animal abuse is a huge problem in the United States and has to be stopped. Food is a necessity and it all comes around in the end. In the food chain other animals eat other animals and thats what it comes down to. Fashion can sometimes be a split decision. Clothing is definitely needed but at some point you have to draw the line. An entire sweatshirt made out of leopard skin is a little over the top. I believe animals that we use for clothing should be the same ones we use for food so we don't waste our sources. Entertainment is another tough decision. You can tell if an animal is happy or not. Abusing your animal to do stunts does not make it happy. Research is important because you can't always look out for the animals when sometimes you have to look out for yourself. Animal rights are a really hard problem to address but sometimes you have to draw the line.

The PETA organization is helping families keep their pets indoors to avoid inhumane activities on such animals. Animals have became a big part of our lives throughout the years. Humans first started out to use them as food, clothing and shelter (skins). Back then, however it was a neccesity to use animal skins for housing and clothing. Now, we have many more options, so why use an animal? On the same note, using animals for entertainment is not right at all. This is an excesssive thing that we don't newed to be a part of our lives. Also, we sometimes are indifferent to the other creatures we live with. Naturally, we consider ourselves to be higher on the scale of importance and respect. We strive for human rights while we are still demoting other creatures that share this earth with us. I believe that it is "okay" to use animals for food. Many people disagree with the fact that animals have rights. Many people around the world have animals, for example: cats and dogs. Many people also own exotic animals. Although we consider these "domesticated animals" does not mean every other animal/insect/reptile have different rights. I feel that animals in general are absolutely fine being held as a pet. When animals for example; at puppy mills where they are treated badly and have never been able to walk on grass, that is wrong, end of discussion. As research projects, we do need to have some sort of "tester" in order to find cure to diseases. That is not perfect, but to help cure deadly diseases i think two or three mice are okay. If it were thousands at a time, then that would be another story. Overall animals should be treated accordingly, they are obligated to rights, just as us humans are. Therefore, they in my opinion should be treated sincerely.

The Torture of Animals is wrong!

The author of this webpage clearly states and questions where the line should be drawn. He believes the torture of animals should be a crime, and is glad to see that people are being arrested for harming animals. I do disagree with him on the fact where using mice as lab projects is wrong. I feel as mentioned earlier, it is okay as long as they are not physically tortured. He also has an area for comments, and he returns them as well on opinions. I feel this is a very well organized website and stands up for the rights of animals.
 

Our pets are our responsibility. When we adopt a pet, we agree to take care of them until the day they die. Pets are supposed to be our companions, and good friends would treat each other equally or even better.

I think animals as a food source is okay. These animals should be treated as humanely as possible. If they are suffering during their life time, then it is animal abuse. We should stop these acts and give these animals some rights.

I personally support testing on animals, but there are some standards. For example, these animals that are being tested should not be endangered. They should be plentiful and easy to breed. If we didn't test on animals, then it could be dangerous on human beings. Something in the material could be poisonous, such as lead in lip stick, or a sedative in a new medicine. If we didn't test the medicine, then we wouldn't know that the people would get sleepy. Some person could be driving on the high way, and then cause a car accident because they fell asleep. Without testing, our death toll could increase.

I don't think animal entertainment or fashion is necessary. Sure, it's cute if the dog voluntarily starts dancing, but to force it to do such is a crime. These animals shouldn't be forced to do anything they shouldn't want to do. Dog fighting, and circuses are cruel. I believe that zoos and aquariums are good because animals live longer in captivity (most at least).

Animals shouldn't be killed for their skin\fur in fashion. Fashion isn't needed in our life, we could all live without "designer" clothing. Mulesing mutilation, an Australian practice, is to put the sheep on its back, tie its leg, and then cut off the tail, parts of its flesh and skin. Although it's a safety precaution to fend infections, these sheep are fully conscious without anesthetics. They are brutally tortured and usually end up dying. Then, they use these sheep into the wool, or etc;. Lamb/sheep wool is especially popular in the Australia UGG boots company.

There are alternatives to mulesing mutilation. Instead of basically surgery, farmers could give their sheep vaccinations. This website talks about how seamen would grind up alive, but sick sheep, and then throw their remains into the sea when they travel to slaughtering houses. It's horrible, and isn't humane. These animals should be treated VERY VERY nicely before they are slaughtered. I don't think grinding an organism alive is acceptable.
 

Question: What responsibility do we have for the lives of our pets?
When a human interacts with another, kindness and respect are always expected. It should go without saying that if someone ones a pet, the same moral rules pertaining to kindness and cruelty should be followed. When someone comes into the possession of a pet, either through adoption from a shelter or purchase through a store, the owner is the sole provider of food, shelter, and companionship for that pet. It is great responsibility that can be very rewarding, and must be taken very seriously. On the other hand, the question arises, “Where do we draw the line?” I do not support putting a death penalty on killing a pet, which may be interpreted by some as I value a human’s life an animal’s. While this is true, the only explanation I can provide is human nature. : )

To answer the simple question, “Do we have an obligation to ensure the continuation of all species on the planet?” I think that the answer is clearly yes. It’s true, humans do take up the most space and resources of all animals, but they should use their potential as a reason to ensure the continuation of species, rather than to utilize it as an excuse to dominate the world without caring for other organisms. Because of our ability to spread across the world and create new technology, humans have caused much damage to the earth. People have wrecked havoc in the lives of many species, causing them to become endangered or extinct. Since humans have one of the most influential roles of this planet, we should seek to find a harmonious balance between ourselves and nature. We should try our best to share the world with other organisms, rather than to disregard the lives of all other species. Humans are not the only life forms of earth. We depend on many other organisms to sustain ourselves as well.
Another question of interest is, “Is using animals for companionship OK? for food? for fashion? for entertainment? for research?”. I believe that finding companionship in animals is fine. As long as the animals are treated with care and respect, I think that relationships with animals form loving bonds and can conduct no harm. Using animal flesh for food is a tradition that has carried on for many, many centuries. It is now a part of human culture. Animal meat has much nutritional value and contains many healthy fats and proteins. It can save many lives. I think that as long as the animal being eaten has been properly taken care of and humanely put to sleep, then eating it is fine. Slaughtering animals for food excessively is unnecessary and not morally correct. I believe that everyone should eat the amount of meat that they need in order to save the lives of animals. Indulging in superfluous amounts of meat is unnecessary.
As for fashion, I think what people try to seek while using animal fur or skin in clothes and accessories is something more artistic. Although I love the arts and advocate the usage of art for expression, I don’t think that it is right to use real animal skin or fur for fashion or art when there are many synthetics that are readily available as an alternative. Technology has come a long way, so killing innocent animals for art should not be an issue.
Research that uses animals for tests is also very controversial. In the field of research, I believe that animals should be utilized sparingly and carefully. If these test subjects are going to be used, they should at least have the right to be given extra medicine to help relieve any pain or suffering they might go through. Tests should be kept short and efficient so as not to torture the creature.
Everything serves a purpose. No animal can stand alone. All animals affect our circle of life and should not be abused or used for frivolous desires.

We do have the obligation to ensure the comtinuation of all species on the planet because we need them for food and they need our help as mucch as we need them. Using animals for companionship and ocassional reaserch is ok but not using them for food, fashion, and entertainment.
I think that animals deserve the same rights as humans. For example, its wrong how that if an animal killed a human, they'd kill the animal but nobody cares if the humans kill the animals. Just because we are smarter and superioir, doesn't mean that we get to use and treat them however we want. I also don't think that keeping animals on farms just to be used and eventually killed, is very wrong. They live their whole lives in terrible conditions just to eventually be killed for food. It is a terrible pre-made life that gives them no chance at survival of the fittest.

I think using animals as food is okay to an extent. It is necessary in the food chain for predators to eat their prey. If we stopped eating certain foods, it could really affect the food chain. However, I don't agree with the way many animals are treated in the food industry. If animals do need to be killed, I think it should be done respectively and in a way that the time of suffering is reduced as much as possible.

I am completely against people using animals to satisfy their fashion needs. It is absolutely unnecessary for animals to be bred and killed for fashion. People don't need a jacket made of animal fur to survive, like food. If we continue to unnecessarily kill animals, we could possibly force some into extinction.

When it comes to entertainment, I still believe it is alright if the animals are happy and treated right. If they are abused in any way, I don't think that they should be used for entertainment. Sometimes, animals are used in movies. If they are treated just as well as the actors on the set, then I think that it is alright. In zoos, if the animals are treated with kindness, I think it's okay. I don’t like how animals are caged and shown to the world. If that was done to humans, people would think that it is horrible. However, if the entertainment includes animals fighting, or hurting itself or another animal, I am against it.

I don't really know what to say about research. I don't think that it is right for animals to be killed or tortured for medical research. If scientists found a way to conduct an experiment without harming the animal in anyway, I would be okay with it. People are used to test experiments to sometimes. If the animal is killed or hurt though, I don't agree with animals being used for research reasons.

Yes because if we do not care about the quality of animals, we will be eating the bed contaminated food, and then we will be deadly ill. In addition, eating the harmful growth hormones will casue human transmutation and birth defects. Yes because, the more organsims that we take off the earth, the more dead organisms that are going to cause the cause and effect of the animal food change. In addition to that subject, the decomposers would be be more populated on the earth, and the consumers and producers we have less and less organisms on the earth. Using animals for companionships are ok because they are being abused and not misfed. Using animals for food is ok because this has been going on fod thousands and thousands of years. I feel we should care about the quality of the lives of animals. They deserve the right to live, just as much as we do. I feel we have an obligation to help them. We take animals for granted, using them as food, clothing, domesticating them and using them for scientific purposes, so we have a responsibility for them. I also feel humans consuming animals for dietary needs and also using them for clothing are just part of the circle of life. Our ancestors were doing this for thousands of years. All our medical achievements also required animal testing. We can’t change the fact that most humans value themselves over animals. Although I believe animals do have rights, I don’t think any human can ever value an animal over a person. However, this doesn’t mean people should act cruelly to animals. They should treat animals how they want to be treated.

I think animals are important for the continuation of the species on the Earth. We've all probably heard of the circle of life by now, and we know if one species went extinct the whole balance might be thrown off. Of course the food necessity is a major conflict when coming to the animal's treatment. I believe if the animal were to be killed it should be done in a respectable manner not just hacking into it with a bucther knife. If we had the animals as pets we shouldtreat them with respect. If you get a pet your taking the obligation to taking care of it, so you should do so. If your not gonna take care of the animal why would you buy it just to abuse it?

Animal Treatment


Some of the information I learned 0on this site were the various neglect users do to their pets. One of these neglections are the refusal to veternarian help. Another would be shops that sell furs.
 

As the smartest species of them all we humans have great responsiblity. we are responsible for the lifes of pets. we need to treat them like there our children by feeding them, providing shelter and, loving them. its sad how people treat some animals just for food. we should let animals rome free but when is time to kill and eat them. then i think its ok to hold them or trap them in there last days so they can be nice and soft for consumers. we have an obligation to ensure the continuation of all species on the planet no matter what. even if we have to physical make animals have sex we can't let any animals die out.using animals for companionship is ok because thoughout the years be have depending on us to provide for them. since we have taken there land with roads building they can't find food like they use to. so they need us to take of them. it is neccary to kill animals for food because we need to eat. without proper protein for meat we can maintain and fully balanced meal. even fashion is ok beacuse people in alaska need worm cloths from animal skin to live. for entertainment is ok unless there in no harming of the animal. its ok to do like dog shows but not like chicken fighting or something like that. we have to draw the line when we start ti harm animal. its ok to kill for food but not for fun or entertainment. I believe we are all obligated too keep all the species alive and continuing. I believe that we are the reason many animals are endangered. Like shown in this website we often take the homes of animals to build homes and businesses. I believe having animals for companionship and food is okay. But I think it is very wrong to use them for fashion, entertainment and research. I believe using a animal for clothing that is just for fashion sense is just plain wrong.

We should be very concerned with the quality of life of the pets that we eat. If they are mistreated in life, they might not be good to eat once they are killed. For example, an animal could live in unhealthy conditions and contract a disease taht could poison us. Also, it's unfair to treat any animal wrong. Animals have rights just like us, and deserve to be treated well.
People for the Ethnic Treatment of Animals
PETA is an organixation for animal rights. They believe that animals should have the same ethnic rights as humans. They are also against animal abuse towards pets and such.
 

I think that having an animals for companionship ok, but it depends on what kind. If the animals are dangerous like poisonous snakes or tigers, it is wrong because they can kill people. Animals for food is ok because we need to eat and whatever we eat it is killing living things whether it be animals or plants. It is ok for fashion because I take fashion as clothes and we need clothes to stay warm and survive. It is ok to use animals for entertainment as long as they are kept in good conditions. Unless it is fighting it is ok, but dogfighting and cock fights are wrong. Research on animals is also ok because it benifets people like with a drug, it would be messed up to do it on people.site
