End-stage organ failure is one of the most important public health problems facing Americans today. Heart failure, for example, kills four times as many people as does HIV infection and three times as many people as does breast cancer; it is a disease with an increasing incidence, and the cost of taking care of affected patients is 8 to 35 billion dollars each year. One solution is Xenotransplantation this is were an animal organ is taken and transplanted in to a human body. Though it is still being researched many believe its possible and safe. Increasing clinical experience worldwide has shown that rejection and infection can be managed successfully in most patients who receive human cardiac allografts. Many doctors believe by providing temporary heart, kidney, or liver support as a bridge-to-transplantation, these biological devices may allow patients to recover end-organ function and await allograft transplantation in a more stable clinical state, thus improving their chances of survival.Success in this more ambitious goal would help alleviate the human organ donor shortage. Another than using pigs organs we can use baboons organs that are not endangered and the infrequency of blood group O (universal donor) animals, and the limited number of colony-bred animals are distinct disadvantages to the baboon as a donor. We will find out if this could be the solution to the organ problem. If this is not possible research must go on to prove right or wrong we can't just give up now.

Xenotransplantation

Xenotransplantation is the transplant of organs from one species to another. Although many people can benefit from normal transplants, they are frequently unavailable. Xenotransplantation if not very succesful, could at least be used temporarily as a human transplant is awited. Xenotransplantation can do a few things to help you. It can also prevent many illnesses. Xenotransplantation can also save lives. Information on xenotransplantation can be found here

I googled about xenotransplantation and I just noticed that I chose the same site as A1. This was entirely accidental please do not penalize me.

Xenotransplantation is a process that involves animal organs being transplanted into a human. Animals would have to be killed for Xenotransplantation to take place. Xenotransplantation may not be as sucessful as human transplantation, because it is dealing with something that is foriegn to the human body. Some people would argue that it may not be considered ethical to kill animals for the sake of humans.

Xenotransplantation is a solution to having to wait on a transplant list for organs. It transfers organs from one species to another. The use of xenotransplantation can be benificial, but there are disadvantages to it. Cell based immune rejection and organ rejection can occur after the transplant. The rejection can cause phenomena and infection can spread. One attempt was made using baboon organs and the patient lived less than a year after recieving the organ. Also some oppose the process because it kills animal and they feel weird having animal organs inside of them. Soem people oppose it because they feel uncomfortable with organs that aren't theirs in them.Xenotransplantation Facts

Xenotransplantation is a wonderful thing that will save many lives. Although it may not be great to have an animal part in my body, it would be better than not living at all. This can easliy speed up the waiting list for people that are waiting for organ transplants. There will be little or no wait for these organs because the are so abundant. Xenotransplantation is a procedure that will help people know that they will not be on a waiting list for an organ that they may not ever receive.

Xenotransplantation Pros and Cons

Xenotransplantation is wrong and not as great as it may seem. Although Xenotransplantation my improve the chance of someone getting Xenotransplantation, there is a bad side as well, which over comes the needs. A person who has had xenotransplantation may spread xenozoonosis among family, friends, and other people. People could also die in a matter of minutes or days after surgery. The most DNA compatible animal to harvest organs are from chimpanzees and baboons. Both of these animals are endangered and would be protected by laws. Baboons also have smaller organs and only produce one to two young at a time, which limits the supply. By placing parts of animal within your body no longer makes you human in some respect, and in some religions it is unethical to practice xenotranplatation. People have also used pigs organs as well, but the problem is that the body recognizes the transplant, and shuts down that organ. The transplanted pig heart will turn black once it is shut down and release cretin endogenous retroviruses or, (PERVs)which when released into the body of a human, will affect the whole body.

Xenotransplantaion is Bad!

Xenotransplantation is the transfer of animal organs, usually a pigs, goes to a human in need of an organ. Since humans are constantly in need of organs and humans rarely give out organs, then an animal is used. The amount of deathes on the waiting list will decrease. Also with xenotransplantation the cost of organ transfers will decrease. Older patients are sometimes turned away but with xenotransplantation they would be able to get a chance to live longer. Xenotransplantation is a great idea but scetists should improve upon their ideas to save more lives. More information is found

I personally wouldn't want a pigs organ, or any animal organ for that matter inside of me. However, I do support this because it does keep people alive. Also, if it was a choice between life or death, I think that I would be able to handle having an animal organ inside of me. Since the prgans are just wasted after people take the meat out of them to eat, I think it would be a great idea to use the prgans for something that could make a difference and change peoples' lives. Using animal transplants we have the chance to save thousands of people's lives, and I don't know anyone who wouldn't support that, especially since organ failure in humans is becoming a major killer. Xenotransplantation is a great idea I think, simlpy for the fact that it can save lives, and with one problem out of the way, scientists can focus on curing cancer and other diseases. I agree with performing Xenotransplantation in the medical field.

Xenotransplantation: Risks, Clinical Potential, and Future Prospects.

Xenotransplantation has very bad risks like rejection and xenozoonoses. It breaks a major human-animal ethical issue that concerns many people. The dangers of the porcedure are not completely defined which is not good. There is also the risk that such as contracting foreign disease.Alot of animals would have to be killed for Xenotransplantation to happen.

Xenotransplantation Risks

I am in favor of Xenotransplantation. I think that it is a great way to save a life. Even if you feel a little gross that you have an animals organ in your body the fact that it is saving your life should wipe that feeling away. We kill so many pigs for food anyway we can just take the organs then eat them. It is the same for all animals that we take organs from. This practice can also cut the waiting time and cost for many people. This can drastically cat suffering and make organs available to many more people.

It has been been established that new emerging human infectious diseases generally originate from other spieces. By inplanting another spieces organ into a living human being thus allowing direct access to the human being. The implants have been comong form pigs, pigs contain a disease closely related to HIV called retrovirus. Therefore by sing animal organs as donners we are bring viruses that were not avalible to use striaght to the source.
against!

Finally we may have a solution for all the lives lost in need of organs. The problem solver is called xenotransplantation. Many people oppose this new idea. Pig organs need to be dead for the organs, but so many pigs already die from the need of meat. Too many people die not having organ transplants or are on waiting lists today. Xenotransplantation can be the cure for this problem.

Xenotransplantation !

Organ failure is a serious public health issue these days. Calculated as of June 2008, over 91,000 Americans are in need of various organs. These organs range from kidneys, to lungs, to even hearts. Every day seventeen peope lose their lives waiting for transplants. Every thiteen minutes someone realizes they need an organ transplant. This is a serious problem because there is not enough donors to provide for all those in need. This is where the idea of xenotransplantation comes into play. This is the process of taking an animal organ and placing it in a human body. As crazy as it sounds, this is being researched and tested. Fortunately, xenotransplantation allows for a person to stay living. It allows a person to recover, and have the opportunity for a more formal transplantation. The basic advantage to xenotransplantation is it allows for almost an unlimited supply of organs for transplantation. This will take care of the organ shortage issue. This also has the potential to help patients suffering illnesses such as hemophilia, AIDS, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. This can be made possible if doctors take neural cells from pig fetus and insert them in the patients brain to replace the tissue. All these reasons are benefits, and advantages to xenotransplantation.

Risks and benefits !

Today americans are facing a huge struggle with bad organs. It is one of the causes of death, and so many people die just waiting to recieve a new organ. The problem is that very few people donate their organs. Today scientists have discovered a new way to solve the problem. It is called Xenotransplantation, which is when animal organs are transplanted. The animal with the closest relation in their organs with humans are pigs, and they are not endangered. This process will decrease the amount of deaths because many humans will get the organs they need. I think Xenotransplantation is a good idea because if i were in desperate need of an organ, i would like to have one and not have to wait on a waiting list. Xenotransplantation will probably become very important and is a better and quicker way to get the healthy organs that you need.
Xenotransplantation positives

I think that xenotransplantation is a bad idea. This is because since many people die in a day, many pigs and other animals will have to frequently be killed. This may mean that if all we use is pigs for everyone who needs a transplant, they could potentially become extinct. The amount of people waiting in hospitals to get a transplant will also increase significantly, overfilling many hospital beds and operation waiting lists. An animal organ taking the place of a human organ could also result in cross-species infections. Also, if you take an animal organ to be in your body, there is a chance that your body could reject it leaving you back at the drawing board of needing a new organ. Aside from all health risks, the actual organ can cost a lot of money. They may cost between $100,000 and $500,000 each. Therefore, xenotransplantation is not good.
Opposing Xenotransplantation

Xenotransplantation is one of the best medical advancements of our time. Xenotransplantation is when we use organs from an animal and transplant them into a human. The organs work just fine. The only thing that people do like is the part of having a pig organ in them. I believe if we're going to use the pig for pork and bacon, why not use the organs to save lives. Seems like a no brainer to me. I mean what do the pig farmers use the organs for anyway? This would mean we'd always have an organ on hand. This is good because sometimes organ failure is unpredictable and usually patients wait on a human organ. We'd have so many organs ready, we'd have surplus. To me, xenotransplantation is an awesome medical advancement that would save millions. Pigs are one of the closest animals to us in organ size and use. I think all the animal rights activists are being a little dramatic, we're using the pig anyway. This should make them happy because we're using all the pig as oppose to only using the meat. In conclusion, I believe we should do more xenotransplantation and less of the complaining about animal rights.
Go Xenotransplantation and Greg!!!

Xenotransplantation is the transplantation of and organ from one species to another. I believe it is wrong because it increases the risk of a disease crossing between species. It also hasn't been proven to be safe for humans yet. It also could cause more harm than good because it might kill the person because it would pose a greater risk for rejection than a human organ would It also would increase the amount of pigs being killed which is morally wrong.

Xenotransplantation is an exelent medical advancement that has been made. The heart for instance kills hundreds of thousands of people a year and being able to "stop" this disease is wonderful for most. There is also a very low fatality rate in this operation due to the skill of the doctors that perform the operation.

Xenotransplantation is wrong in many ways. One way is that it could later cause complications with later generations.Other things such as disease might occur because the organ may have a cancerous grownth or a tumor(you never know). I also think that it is wrong to kill animals just for the sake of xenotransplantation. We should find out alternative methods to help people out with organs.

Sorry, forgot to post the site name.

This is un-natural. A pig is a livivng organism it is wrong to kill an animal for human purposes. This has not even been 100% proven to work. How would you feel if someone harvested humans for research. This is inhuman. The effects are also not 100% positive what if this causes humans to get some rare disease. This is unnatural and should not be done. Why should humans get to test on another living organism?

xenotransplantation

I am agianst Xenotransplantation for many reasons. First of all animal breeding is unethical and to kill others species is just as bad. We are killing animals such as pigs to save us, even though we might reject these new organs. Even if we accept these new organs does not mean we are safe. This process is dangerous and can cause diseases. Some diseases may go undetected, kill the human and possible spread. And you need to take into account blood type, to make this possible blood types must match. I think this process is unethical and we need to learn new wyas to save others lifes.

This is not right

I am all for Xenotransplantation. This is known as the transplant of living cells, tissues or organs from one species to another. Over 91,000 people are awaiting a transplant and a new name is added to that list every 13 minutes.I think taht we should just harvest organs from animals no matter what animal rights activists say.Xenotransplantation is probably going to be the solution for many people who need organs. Besides it would probably be cool to be considered half pig-half human.

I am definitely for Xenotransplantation. Many people die because they are in need of an organ that will most likely never show up for them. I think that since many people are in need of organs and we don't have enough to spare, Xenotransplatation will save many lives. Xenotransplantation means the transfer of living cells, tissues, and/or organs from one species to another. It might feel wierd that you have a different species' organ in you, but I would personally rather live than die of something that could have been prevented. We kill many pigs as it is to make bacon and pork, so why don't we just take the spare organs as well. Even if we just use the organs temporarily while we wait for a donor, they still will save many lives. I am in favor of this emerging alternative to a human organ transplant.

Xenotransplantation is Awesome!

transporting organs from human to human is successful but inorder to do that trasplants usually have to come from people who have died. But with so many people waiting for organs only a could thousand get the organ they need. i belive xenotransplantation is and alterative that should be used to save humans. every day pigs are killed for meat so why not take the heart and preserve the organs that can be used for transplants. If people think its uneithical to kill an animal for xenotransplantation they are just killing people.
xemotransplantation

My opinon on xenotransplantation is that it is wrong. I think that raising animals only to eventually take out their organs and put them in humans is unethical and inhumane. Even if you are on your death bed, its better to die because you had a regular human disese than dying from a pig or baboon desease. I also believe that
you can get wierd side efffects because it is foreign to your body.
Also, is you later have complications with your "pig heart" the doctors may not know exactly whats wrong and the pig heart may wind up killing you in the end anyways.

Its Wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Xentranslantation is transplanting animal organs into the body for a failed organ.there is more humans waiting for organs then there is to be transplanted. purpusly breeding pigs to use there organs is a good idea. a beter one is taking organs from pigs that were bread for meat. i thinkl we should research what give animals the ability to regenerat. if we can give are organs the ability to do so then it couldsolve the problem of needing more organs.

a debate on Xenotransplantation

I am in favor of xenotransplantation. We have found a cure that will help us save lives. Since many lives are killed waiting in line for organ transplants, they have decided to use pig organs. HEY if it will help us save many more lives... maybe it is worth it. This is a great way to speed up the process of the waiting list.
Xenotransplantation!

I am in favor of xenotransplantation. I believe that it is a good thing because it can cure people who have heart, kidney, liver and lung failure. Also, obtaining human organs to be used for transplantation is difficult, but getting organs from animals is much easier. Xenotransplantation could save a large aount of lives so I do not think there is anything to argue against it. Harvesting animals for this procedure would be a very good thing.

I <3 Xenotransplantation

i wouldnt like an animal organ in my body. i am in favor of xenotransplantation because my name happens to have even letters =D. i am also in favor of this type of transplantation because it can save a person's life. this animal has being sacrified to help someone live. it also makes it easier for the people in the organ waiting list because now they have a bigger chance of surviving. if it helps people survive i think it good.
information and ideas can be found in got to love Xenotransplantation =D

good morning !
:)

Xenotransplantation is when a human uses a animal organ to live.I wouldnt not want an animal organ in my body. someone would kill an animal just for me to live is not right. also this transplant is not always successful, some of the transplants may not fit.Through the Xenotransplantation you may also get deseased or infected.
