Xenotransplantation is neither a safe nor is it an ethical solution to the lack of organs for humans. One major reason is that it is much more difficult to transplant animal organs into humans that than human to human transplants used today. One major problem that must be overcome is that scientists must learn how to fully stop the cells of the transplant receiver’s body from “rejecting” the organ and attacking it as if it were a foreign, potentially harmful organism. Though there are already procedures for overcoming this today, these methods are not 100% effective when the organs of different species transplanted.

A second major reason that poses difficulties for xenotransplantation advocates is ethics. Countless pigs die each year, so organs are available, but humans should not begin to harvest the organs of animals. It is possible that if the idea would slowly begin to be accepted by society, we might soon begin harvesting the organs of other humans such as prisoners and the sick who are deemed “unhelpful” to society. The idea is scientifically sound, but the principle is unthinkable. Xenotransplantation should not be exercised at all costs.
 

I think xenotransplantation is a good idea. I think that if more people will suvive if they are given pig organs than thats great. If people are already using pigs for food I don't see any reason why they couldn't be used for organ transplants. Using pigs for organ transplants is no more cruel than using them for food. Both uses help a person survive. Also just because you have one organ from a pig that does not make you half pig.

I agree with the idea of Xenotransplantation. If over 91,000 Americans are awaiting organs, plus everyone else in the entire world, there needs to be something we can do to save lives and i think that Xenotransplantation is the right answer. Yes, i love and care for animals, but if it meant saving, not only a strangers life, but someone near and dear to my hearts life, i would do it in a flash. If i suddenly had kidney failure and needed a kidney, asap, i would be so far down on the organ list, i would probably die, right then and there. All because of how long the list is. If we could decrease the list, even the slightest bit, by using Xenotransplantation, i say do it. your saving lives. animal rights activists may think its cruel, but honestly in my opinion, if someone they loved was in a predicament where they needed an organ, were too far down on the list, and the only other option to save their life would be to use Xenotransplantation, i can bet that they would use Xenotransplantation.

Xenotransplantation is a great idea! If a family member or close friend or even myself were in desperate need of a transplant I am all for it. I believe that if it is necessary to keep humans alive then it is acceptable to transplant an animal organ. Although the thought of an animal organ within a human body may not be very comfortable of a thought, it will be absolutely apprecitated by the being who remains alive due to the sacrafices of other animals.

It could signifiganly shorten the list of people awaiting organs as well as lowering the amount of people dying daily from the need of an organ transplant. As for animals' rights, if the organs of another species (ex. pigs) are from the pigs that have only been slaughtered for food, then there is no excessive killing. Although the human body may reject the organ, the receiver would also know of all the risks and chances they were taking beforehand. If you feel you should go ahead with the procedure you are given a organ that is pretty suitable to your body. I think xenotransplant is sometimes needed. If you are going to die without the needed organ then you should be able use an organ of an animal that would prbobly die soon anyway. If the animals die, their organs should be donated to hospitals rather than be thrown out. There is nothing wrong with having the organ of another species, such as a pig, inside of your body. We already use these animals for food. Why should using their organs be any different. It's not like taking one organ is going to make you half human and half pig. I think that xenotransplant is a great idea.

Xenotransplantation is definitely an ethical solution for the shortage of human organs to be transplants. If someone were to say that we can ethically kill animals for food that we eat (which is not necessary, there are many people who are on vegetarian diets), but not to save lives with xenotransplantation of vital organs, then they would simply be wrong. We slaughter animals for food, and we haven't stopped doing that even though some consider it to be unethical. And, many of the organs from the animals killed for food go to waste anyway, so we could use those for medicinal purposes to save lives. So, as far as I'm concerned, xenotransplantation is completely ethical, and, even if it is not entirely safe yet, it will be before it is used regularly for organ transplants. Xenotransplantation is a great way to save numerous lives. Although it may take the lives of adorable animals such as pigs, it can save many human lives. Not to imply that humans are more important than any other species, but the truth is humans are dominant on earth. Due to this obvious fact, they have a very good reason to stay alive compared to other unendangered species. Also, if we can kill pigs to eat (which isn't entirely necessary) then can't we kill them to save our lives?? It would probably be more useful to kill a pig for life than for some food.

In my opinion, Xenotransplantation is a terrible substitute for organ transplants. I fully understand that people need organs every day, but I still dont belive it is moral to slaughter a pig in order to take its organ(s). Animal cruelty is a harsh crime in our counrty, and around the world, that must be brought to attention. Humans cannot keep relying on other animal's lives to support their own. If a person needs to kill something in order to live, I think that a person shouldn't live at all. As a dominant specie in the world, it is our responsibility to take care of all the other creatures that we share our planet with. Besides that, it is unholy to have part of something else inside of you, and it would make anyone feel like they were not themselves. Xenotransplantation should be avoided at all costs and should never be used as an imitation to a moral, and natural organ transplant.

Xenotransplantation is a good thing! This is a very useful way to allow more people to live. Even though you are killing precious pigs, xenotransplantation is very thought out and is a good way to save tons of people. Heart failure kills 4 times as many people as HIV infection and 3 times as many then breast cancer. Using xenotransplantation could decrease this number immensely. Daily, more and more people are in need of organ transplants and this is a sufficient way to get the organs. Using zenotransplantation is a smart idea and will help a lot of people survive. I think that it is a good thing that scientist have found xenotransplantation because in the near future it will help millions of people get new organs and save all of their lives!

Xenotransplsntaion is a very effective and pragmatic solution to organ failure. Because of the abundance of pigs, and the closeness of humans and pigs (genetically speaking, these animals are the perfect animals for transplants. Another reason that supports the use of pigs is that these animals are used for food as well. Because of this additional use of the pig, the purpose of the pig's death is not entirely due to the procedure.
It is better to take an organ from a pig, than another human in a life-death situation. There have been many controversies about Xenotranplantation, however we also have to consider the individual's point of view. It is a decision to follow through with the procedure, not a requirement.

Xenotransplantation is not a good alternative to human organs. Even though they are close in general, there are many aspects that would have to be looked at. The blood types would have to match and i don't know about pig blood types but i doubt they are the same. It wouldn't be needed if people would be donors. One issue with Xenotransplantation is that you will face some form of a rejection because it isn’t a completely human organ. It most likely would not work for certain individuals. Another issue it getting the size and shape correct. Since these organs will have to basically “connect” with the rest of the body, they would have to be the perfect organ for that individual. Another major issue is cross-species infection. Basically, diseases that were never meant for humans could now infect us. I believe that Xenotransplantation is unethical. The very idea of having a pig heart in your body is just unimaginable. Under no circumstances would I advise anyone to go for a Xenotrasplantation. The transplant seems like it is risky and can bring upon unknown diseases, and what's worse then a disease you can't cure? Killing pigs for food is one thing, but using them for surgical gain, is not morally right. I think that xenotransplantation is not the right solution we should use. This method is not a 100% safe as of yet and may have its risks. One of these risks being rejection of the organ. This may result from the fact that doctors are using organs from another species altogether to use in humans. Many people think of this as unethical and revolting. Xenotransplantation with pig organs may also be thought as degrading for some religions such as Christianity and Roman Catholicism. These religions believed that the human race has a higher dignity than the animals which are supposed to serve them.

I agree that xenotransplantation is an excellent idea. Nearly 91,000 Americans are awaiting an organ transplant. This is only in the Americas; think of other foreign countries and areas such as Europe and Asia. Organ donations and transplants are a global problem.

75% of these people need kidneys or livers. Only 25,000 kidneys and livers are donated, and these are mostly from the deceased. With the short supply and high demand, it's impossible that all of these people can survive. In fact, 7,000 people died in 2004 waiting on the organ transfer list.

We need more organs or more people will suffer and eventually die. Why not use other materials to help us live? Why not use pigs? Pigs are very close to humans in terms of physiology. We raise pigs to eat them, and we end up throwing away their internal organs. People should use these organs to aid and help the people on the list. Besides, the more pigs we breed, the more organs we could use, and the more meat the people could eat. (This could decrease poverty.)

If a person is dying, they should not think twice about saving their life. If an organ is offered to them, they should take it, regardless of what animal it came from. There will be no discomfort; the person would feel no different than their healthy lifestyles. Strangers would not even notice a difference in you. Your life would be saved.

Xenotransplantation is a great alternative if you cannot get an organ. If a human has a pig liver, then he is not half human half pig, and the pig liver will not be passed on if that person has a child.

I think that Xenotransplantation is good is because, say you were a person with the disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, which kills and makes the kidneys stop functioning. So you would have to put your name on a waiting list to find a kidney donor who matchs your blood type and kidney type. But, most humans die from just waiting for the organ. In addition, i thinkl that Xenotransplantation is safe is because pigs have just about the same type of skin and are that different from are genetic makeup.

Xenotransplantation has given many people greater hope to live. With the amount of backed orders for "real" transplants, animal to human organ transplantation offers a viable and pragmatic solution to the ongoing medical crisis (or bureaucratic crisis, if you prefer).

While xenotransplantation is not 100% effective and includes many risks, it removes most of the worry and doubt of not even receiving an organ at all. At the very least, patients have some solace in knowing that they have a high chance of survival.

But, let's reintroduce a new alternative to all of this. Stem cells! They have an abundance of opportunities to do so much good for society. On a moral standpoint, "killing" an "embryo" would be a lot more morally sound than implanting an alien organ. That said, I vote stem cells!

I believe xenotransplantation is unethical. Putting organs into human beings that aren't from other humans is wrong. I believe another solution to lack of organs should be found. I do think that to put pig organs into a person is considered messing with nature. I understand that it can save lives. However, pigs shouldn't be killed just for their organs. It's cruel and inhumane.

The need for organs has prompted scientists to devolop alternatives such as xenotransplantation. Only 1/5 of people on the organ transplant list will recieve an organ. If people with type on diabetes could live their lives without ever having to take another insulin shot wouldn't that outweigh the risks? In 1999 the FDA banned the use of non-human primates fro use in xenotransplantation. This has greatly reduced the chance of humans contracting deadly diseases. Xenotransplantation has prooved successful in humans and is now praticed in China, Mexico, The U.S., and The U.K.

If you or a loved one was desperately in need of a transplant, you would take any opportunity you could to save them right? Well since we are in such a shortage of human organs then we need to find alternatives. We know that pigs organs are close to ours, this is very helpful. Some people may find it strange to have a pig’s organ most people only have a 50 50 chance at receiving a donated organ like is says here. Many life’s can be saved by using pig organs, it gives people more hope to survive.
 

I agree with xenotransplantation one hundred percent. 91,000 Americans are awaiting organ transpants every year. However, not enough people are willing to be donors. If you are need an organ, and a pig has a compatable match, I say "Go for it!" Many Americans are perfectly healthy individuals, with the exception of one failed organ, and they deserve to live a long time. Having one, or even two, pig organs does not make you half human, half pig. Xenotransplantation is a great idea.
