Three things that I feel are the most important for our next president to address in his science policy are:
1. Energy. Many policymakers and scientists say energy security and sustainability are major problems facing the United States this century.

2. Water. Thirty-nine states expect some level of water shortage over the next decade, and scientific studies suggest that a majority of our water resources are at risk.

3. Stem cells. Stem cell research advocates say it may successfully lead to treatments for many chronic diseases and injuries, saving lives, but opponents argue that using embryos as a source for stem cells destroys human life.

Advice that I would give our next president when they form their science policy is don't only think about now think about the future. For example, before in history of the US we had a shortage of oil and prices went high. And this happened again in 2000-till now. If we had a plan to save oil or something like that to control oil we wouldn't have that problem. Some adivce I would give the next president to use when he forms his science policy is there needs to be drastic change. Global Warming is happing everywhere, everyday. It gets worse and worse from day to day. I think some good advise would be, changing laws about factories and how much pollution they cause. I also think that from this election the prestident should think about making all the future cars electric only.I also think scientists should find an abundant and cheaper way for families to heat there house. This would cut back on pollution in the air.It would also cut down on the energy supply that is in high demand. People need to learn to conserve energy, I think the next prestident needs to inform all americans of ways that they can conserve energy. Who knows how much longer we will have it,or if it runs out. Energy too, should have an alternative source. For example solar power, requires light from the sun to make something work. This conserves energy and will cost less in the long run. I also think that every one in the US should have decent health coverage. Since it costs so much to go to the doctors, the prestident should make a law that says a doctoer visit should go above a certan amount of money. Also I think the president should make a law saying that no matter your income all health converage should be the same. The bottom line is that no matter who wins the 2008 election change needs to happen , if we want the US to strive like it once has.

My advice to the new president would be to give scientists more freedom (while still following the major laws of our country). By giving a scientist an almost unlimited amount of resources, they can go to some extreme to find an answerr to one of todays problems. If a scientist finds a solution to conserve natural resources, that can solve global warming. If global warming is solved, that could end the melting of glaciers and hte extinction of some arctic animals. If the problem of melting glaciers is solved, then the raising coast lines problem is solved. That's four (4) solutions to world problems solved in one discovery.

The next president should know, as well as all other people should, that everything has a limit. There are things that scientists just should not do because it is not natural and immoral. Thats why I picked scientific integrity as my most important subject for our next president to consider when dealing with science in the United States. Next I chose education. This choice was not to compete with other countries as some people may feel that it should, but instead to compete with ourselves. If our scientific education gets better, than it will be much easier to reverse the problems that we humans have started. This leads me into energy. I believe that humans can easily reduce the amount of energy we use very soon, all we need are more people working on this issue to get it resolved. Our next president should primarily deal with scientific integrity and education when he gets into office because improving our science and math education, we will help fix the problems that we are facing such as energy, innovation, climate change, national security, ocean health, water, space, research, and health.

Other countires spend hours and hours on their schoolwork while Americans finish as fast as possible. At this rate when we are competing for jobs, the other counrties will probably get the job. This will end up making Americans much farther behind in education.

For example, the president should not wait until the last minute to take care of a problem, they should adress it now. Also i think the president should plan to do things like help lower the price of oil, and sustain energy since almost everything we need and use demands energy. Also, making sure there is plenty of clean water, and sources of the water because that is one of the necesities for survival. Also, giving more people health insurance. Also, I would suggest that he take things one step at a time, and tries to make change little by little. Nothing can be done quickly, because it will be likely to end just as fast as it started. He should get many opinions, and be very informed on whatever choices he decides to make.

Science is not given as much attention as it should be given and I think that if there were more science integrity than people would see what role science plays in out lives. Though there are many things in science that are important, i think that there are 3 that the next president should pay close attention to.

1.Energy: In the past decade we have seen many oil shortages due to high demand. This could become a major problem if we dont find a new source of energy soon.

2.Pandemics and Biosecurity: Ever since the first humans walked the earth, there has always been disease. Though a pandemic can spread quickly and fast. We need to take precautionary steps to ensure our nation and the worlds safety from these harmful diseases.

3.Stem cells: Stem cells can be shaped into any living tissue of a human. This could prove useful during transplants and for people who are in dire need of new limbs.


Some advice i'd give the next president is that you should try to look at both the past, present, and future for answers. Many things we have encountered have been solved before. Also the president should think about bird flu and other kinds of sicknesses that can become pandemics. He should allow research to be done on stem cells to further preserve human life. I would advise the next president that in order for us to make the "change" that they are all talking about happen, we have to make imrovements in science policy. We are running out of resources in todays world. With all of the ristrictions on reaserch, it is hard to find any alternate energy sources. The president often doesnt understand that if we are short on oil now and have barly any other energy sources, that down the road we will soon have no energy sources at all. He has to fix the policy so energy can be reaserched and tested more.
