1. Actually to be honest it wasn't hard at all to live without my plastic item for a week.If i didn't live withut my plastic food containes, we can extract it my using glass contaniers. Or only make food far a day that you can use up on one day. Use other storage material.
2. Yes, I think that the United States has the ability to go through similar change as Cuba but, the Cubans didn't have a chance, they were stripped with any resources coming in, so that was there last option. I think they public world would be mad, and blame it on their government for not having good relationships with other countries to get the natural resources. Yes, this would have an affect on our economy, standards of living, etc..

The change in America's agriculture affect my life and the lives of the people around me by that more people would be working in farms, and not going to work in the cities in building like a n accountant, or a stock broker, due to we would have an agricultural economy. A typical day under these circumstances would be like a farmer working on their fields all day. My opionin is that for me to live on a ration would be very hard, that i eat a lot and the amout they give you is to just enough to live on. Just the fact that you would need a ration card to buy food is surprising. The monthly cost for a persons food in Cuba is $2.15, I spend more than that buying one day's of lunch. I seems like that their main food is rice, and personally i would get sick of eating rice all the time. Despite the shortages, people don’t seem to hold the Government responsible, but whats going on sounds like the fault of the government.

1) During the week without my plastic item i realzed it was a little harder than it seemed. Instead of opening up my pantry and grabbing a plasic container, i had to use something different. I opted to use a glass container instead. Due to the fact i could use an altrnative container the task wasn't so bad, but life with plastic food containers is more what im use to. This goes to show you that plastic is a very important material.
2) I agree with A1 that the US could go through similar change as Cuba. I don't think that they would choose to do this however. I think the US would have to be forced just like the Cubans. Living without my plastic item for a week wasnt that bad. It was my daily moisturizer, so it just stunk not being able to use it. But actually not using my item for a week, i dont think helped the planet one bit. Maybe it wasnt supposed to but maybe help out a little?

1. It was not really that different at all. I just got a metal or glass container. We also went out to eat more so we didn't have to use containers as much. I think it wouldn't be that different if I were to extract it. I would just get another type.
2. I was very impressed how cuba responded and it was for the best in the end and there now helping out planet. I think we could only if the governement made it our last resort. America is so materilistic and no one can go anywhere without a car so I think people would panic. I think they would try to revolt against the government and no one would no what to do.I think our economy would be worse off then it is now, a lot of people would be hungry.

It was not hard to live without my plastic product because it was just an unecessary hair product. It didn't really affect the appearence of my hair. If i had chosen something that was used for food, I probably wouldn't have been able to go without it. I feel after going without my product I should eliminate other useless plastic items. Other items like plastic bottles will be harder to give up.

If I had removed the plastic item from my life for a week I think it would be only a slight inconveniance. If I had for say removed plastic drinking cups then I could take a different type of cup. Once I got into a routein of doing this it would become easier and easier.
I do think that America has the ability to go through a period like this because it would simply have to. The only way it could would be to change. This would greatly lower the standard of living and weaken the economy. The public would not be happy.
I think that a change in americas agerculture would be a definite change for the better. It would be much better for the economy by lowering the food prices. I even would lower the united states humongus carbon foot print. I love to garden and think it would be fun to expand gardening everywere. It mat take time for many people to transition. It will also have benefits that spill onto other countries such as with increced production in the US more food can go to 3rd world countries.

It was not hard at all to live without my item. My item was a bottle of whiteout. Instead of using it, I could just cross the mistake out and fix it. People should pick items more often and try not to use them. There is always other solutions.

It was hard for me to live without my plastic item for the week . Since I couldn't use waterbottles , I had to fill up glasses of water to drink them . It was much more tedious , but I knew that it was helping the earth in the process . I think that if everyone stopped using plastic bottles the Earth would be so much healthier , and the use of plastic would go down drastically . I think that the United States could do something simliar to Cube , but not as easuly . It would have to be a looong , looong process that took years . Also , people would have to agree on where the sources were going and what impact we would make . It would definately have an effect on our economy . At first , this change might hurt the economy because the processes would be very expensive to start , but after this lifestyle was adapted to I think it would end up being cheaper and helping the economy . Yes , this change would definately affect my life and the lives of people around me . People would be farmers ! Haha , but htings would be different . Materials definately wouldn't be depended upon as much , and it would probably help to solve the obesity problem in America . It would change my life in the fact that I wouldn't be able to depend on materials as much , and I would probably be alot stronger . Also , instead of going to school I would go to work on a farm or somethjing , and my parents' job would be right in our backyard ! I would probably like farm animals alot more , and would most likely not be as girly :) . The article was shocking to me . It sounds like they live in colonial times , and it's definately hrd to picture myself not having food in excess available all the time or cleaning rice for a living . Andd I agree with Ankit when he says it sounds like a givernment problem , what are they doing to really help ? There are defiantely other alternatives to helping the environment besides one as drastic as this , although I think this would happen the fastest . Andd I do not think large cities should be changed , that would put so many people out of jobs and spaces to live and would only hurt the economy more in the long run .

It wasn't hard at all to live without my item. I could definitely put it into my daily routine. I saved a lot of plastic not using plastic silverware. There are many times during the day where i would use it but now I won't. Hopefully I can get my whole family to join me.
The united states could definitely go through the same things Cuba went through. The public would definitely be mad. There would be a definite impact on our living.
A lot would change if there was more agriculture, I would probably have to work really hard if I lived on a farm. I would have to wake up really early in the morning to work. I would have to keep a budget of 2$ for my whole family. I would have to deal with yucky bugs in the soil. I would have to go to the bodega to get my familys rations. I would have to use a libreta which is a ration book.
Yeah making these cities into transition towns would be a great idea because a lot of energy can be saved.

Although I like my hair straight better , it wasent a big deal to switch for a week.Not straighting my hair also saved energy, because I didnt have to plug in my straighter.

A typical day for me would be getting up at 545, getting ready, going to school (starting my day at 7:20 with tinfoot in biology and ending my day at 1:40 with leadfoot)then going to volleyball pratice,then going home,then doing my homework and eating then going to my farm (AHAH the thought of that really does make me laugh out loud)then comming inside showering and passing out ! NOT my idea of a good time,but hey if its cheap ,why not !

This week i had to live without my body lotion. It was actually pretty easy, which surprised me. Even though its something simple i thought it'd be hard to not keep my skin from going dry. I am really happy that even though it was something tiny, i helped the earth alittle. I am trying to help out the earth a little more then i was.
I would like for the United States to be able to do what Cuba did, but i dont think we can. I believe that too many people just dont wanna put the time and effort into doing that. Although, if more people helped it might work.

It wasn't too bad to live without your plastic item for a week. It wasn't a big deal. I just took smaller portions of food so I wouldnt have to have leftovers amd ise the containers. I think we should have more eco-friendly ideas for storage use. If i took the plastic away , I could use re-usable items or glass.
Yes, I do think that the United States has the ability to go through a similiar change like Cuba. I think the public would be equally divided. Some people dont really care about the environment , while others are strong supporters of going green! We do have very good land to irragate too, I dont see the problem! Our economy would improve because there would be more jobs for people to do; plant, dig, tend to animals, etc. It would be more of an agriculural way of life.
I think my life and others would be a lot more productive and healthier. A typical day would consist of cleaning rice, walking to the local bodega,and rationed meals. Life would be a lot different as we know it. We would have to walk to our local stores and pick up healthy foods like beans, wheat, fruits , and more.

Yes, I do think that the United States has the ability to go through a similiar change like Cuba. I think the public would be equally divided. Some people dont really care about the environment , while others are strong supporters of going green! We do have very good land to irragate too, I dont see the problem! Our economy would improve because there would be more jobs for people to do; plant, dig, tend to animals, etc. It would be more of an agriculural way of life.
I think my life and others would be a lot more productive and healthier. A typical day would consist of cleaning rice, walking to the local bodega,and rationed meals. Life would be a lot different as we know it. We would have to walk to our local stores and pick up healthy foods like beans, wheat, fruits , and more.

If I had to live without a milk carton for a week, I think it would be extremly difficult. I get my milk out of a plastic gallon, so I wouldn't be able to have milk. I still think I would make it, it would just be really hard. Milk is one of the only things I drink, so I would have to drink water all the time during the day instead. I also would need to find the cacium and vitamins from some other food during that week. If I was going to drink milk that week, I would use a paper milk carton.

I think the public would be mad and freaked out. So many people are dependant on man made things that it would be a hard lifestyle to adjust to. 1. For the last "Plastic Planet" blog, I choose to stop using the plastic soap dispenser. It was a little difficult to remember to stop and not use the liquid soap. I had to go out and buy a bar of soap at the store. I bought two bars, one for the shower and one to use at the kitchen and bathroom sink. Once it became a habit it was very easy to keep in mind.
2. I think that America could do what Cuba is doing, but it would very difficult. People living in the over populated cities would find it very difficult to farm for themselves. I didn't live a week without my plastic item. I used a water bottle every day since the recent blog, but have begun to recycle them. If I had to start to use glass contianers, this could becoem really inconvenient. I could have made the change, but didnt.

1)It actually was not hard to live wiht out my item. It was a plastic cup. I basically just replace it with a glass cup. It was not difficult because i obviously already had glass cups so.

It was easy to live without a plastic timer for a week since there were new alternatives. I could use the timer that is on the microwave for example. Sometimes it could get annoying if I decided just to use a clock. Sometimes I could forget what my starting time was. Also, since the clock does not make a sound when I want it to, I could forget that I was waiting for something. I do think that the United States has the ability to go through a change similar to the one that happened in Cuba. On the other hand, I don't think that we ever will unless we are forced to. I think that America would be able to survive even better than Cuba because it is such a large country. America has the ability to make a much wider variety of crops than Cuba because it has a wider range in climate. This change would be a good thing for America because it would make us more self-sufficient. I think that the public, as with most things, will have a wide range of different reactions if America began a change like Cuba. There would be people that would think it's wonderful and people who think it's horrible. The change in America's agriculture would make my life a lot different. When I am not in school or doing homework, I would be working at home. Before I go to school I might milk a cow or feed chickens. When I get home I could be expected to plow the fields. I might collect some food from the fields to eat. It would not be as fun or easy a lifestyle as I have now. There would be less contact with the outside world and travel since there would be animals that need to be taken care of everyday. I think that there are many alternatives to saving our an environment than something as radical of this. But of course, I think the more severe the changes, the quicker the environment would be saved. I'm not so sure that reforming our major cities into transition towns would be a good idea. For one thing this would change everything in the city that we recognize as reasons that we enjoy these cities so much. Could you imagine what Times Square in New York would be like if New York became a transition town? Instead of making these major cities transition towns, maybe we should make some of our smaller cities and towns like this and go from there.

It wasn't difficult to live for a week without my plastic item. Since the plastic item was the plastic water bottle, I had to resort more to getting a glass cup from the cabinet. It was a little more effort as opposed to having one water bottle to drink out of. I had to get up more often to refil a cup.

I did not live without a plastic item for a week. personal i think it would be quite hard. one reason cause i am drinking out of a plastic bottle as i type. but i think that plastic cloud be extracted and replaced with glass or simply just be reused.

i dont really use my lotion on a daily basis, more like 3 days a week. so the week without it was pretty easy. maybe if they put lotion in a different kind of container, like not plastic, it would really help. after the whole one week without my object, i limited my usage og lotion to less, so it would last more.

1. I chose a water bottle. I think i lasted for like 2 or 3 days. It was very hard not to use it because i always have one with me. I treid to just pour glasses of water but eventually i just used one. I want to get reusable bottles so that I don't drink from the plastic bottles anymore.

the week with out the plastic item stunk. i couldnt bring a plastic water bottle to drink in the car. i was very thirsty. i think this was torture. i will never do it again . the bottle has 3o% less plastic so i dought it is hurting the enviornment that much.
