Believe It or Not: Period Eight :O

1) I really want to think that Esref Armagan could possibly be blessed. But, it is very hard for me to believe. Especially since he has never seen the world. If he had seen the world and then later in life it would be a little bit easier for me to believe. So I do not really think he could be.

2) I think that it is both.It could be a curse in the fact that you may not be able to think in other ways or see, hear, touch, taste or smell in other ways. it would be a gift though because it probably would be easier for you to remember things. I think that synaethesia would be great for studying because you can relate something to something else. I think that it would be cool to be able to see what synaethasia is in your own body, but I do not think that it is better than a "normal" kid.

1) I think that he is for real but somebody must have been helping him for example choose which color paint to use. All of his paintings are pretty much accurate in color. I can see how he would be able to "see" things by feeling an impression of them because other bliind people can read in this way.

2) I think that it is a curse in that you would not have one of your senses. Also, you would never be able to hear music or see art, and even though you experience it in a different way it probably loses something. But I don't really understand whether the disease gives you two senses in one and you could make associations like Liz said or if it takes away one sense and substitutes another.

3) I associate 10 with red or black, M with blue, E with green, and H with pink.

1) I do believe that Esref Armagan is the real deal. I viewed his gallery, and not to long ago watched a show about him the science channel. I saw how he paints and I feel he is being truthful with his method and his work. Yes, he can't see. I understand that. I feel, though, that it doesn't necessarily take the ability of your eyes to truly see. Touch, taste, smell, and sound can all allow someone to see. Now, I don't believe he was "blessed", but I believe its true.

2)Gift or a curse? Thats the question. Well, I would have to say that synaesthesia is whatever an individual makes it out to be. There are always two sides to an equation, and the cup may be half full or half empty. Personally, I would prefer to remain a "normal" kid, because I feel that synaesthesia could possibly alter my learning process through the ways I interpret and remember things. I couldn't remember facts as they were, but rather how I percieved them to be.

3)Plainly enough, I associate white with my favorite number; 11. I associate Green with Z, Blue with J, and Yellow with C.

1. I think that Esref's Aramagan's gallery is amazing. I do think he is the real deal. I believe he was truely blessed. Everyone is born with an imagination. Who says blind people can't have some sort of imagination? I think that is terrible to deprive someone of their imagination. I think people that don't believe it are selfish. Whether you are blind or have 20/20
vision, you can still imagine. You can create your own world. He could have touched things before gotten the texture, associated the flowers and their scent to color. Its a blessing.

2. I don't think synaesthesia is a curse. Would you want someone saying that your disorder is a curse? I think that is absurd. I think that it can be a gift but who would want to have something impared? I think those who have this disorder are just as normal as anyone else. They just have to adapt to their disability.

3. My favorite number is 14 (Yes, Mr. Johnson i made it up) and i associate the color pink to the number. THe letters that make my initals i think of grass green.

1. I think that Esref Armagan is definitely legit. After seeing his paintings I see that they are the usual colors, which i admit is surprising. But, if you look past just the colors, i can see some abstract features that you dont find in everyday life. This type of painting comes from the roots of your creativity and cannot be expressed in words.

2. Frankly, synaesthesia could be both. It would be harder to experience the same thing with "normal" people because it is a minority. Synaesthesia is also very itneresting becuase it's like a whole new approach to things you've never thought about before. If it were my choice, I would love to have synaesthesia. It would make life so much more colorful!

3. 4 - pink
R - orange
S - olive

1.i think its some scam type of a thing. i believe in God and everything but blessed? comon im not even that stupid to believe that. he just drew pictures so i think its a major scam.

2.i think synaesthesia is a curse. i think a "normal kid" would be better because then he/she can see the world for that it truely is. if he/she sees colors for sounds then he wont see colors for colors and hear sounds for sounds.

3. i associate 13 with black, N with gold, V with red, P with white.

1) I don't think it's a question if he is gifted, but when you are blind I believe it is feel and also a little bit about of luck. Have you ever tried to close your eyes and write your name. It really isn't that hard. I do not think it is a scam, but I don't think it's a gift.
2) I believe it is a curse. It could be cool for a while, but after a while I believe it would get annoying. No I do not believe it is better than a normal for the same reason I have stated above.
3)I would have to go with a blue 9 and a Red, Blue, and Green, MWT.

1. I think that Esref Armagan is the real deal. The paintings in his gallery are really nice. I think it is amazing that he is able to paint so well.
2. I think synaesthesia is a gift and a curse. I think it is a gift because it lets you see the world in a different way, but i think it is a curse because it would take away one of your senses. i think being a "normal" kid would be better.
3. 7-blue

When I first read that he could paint and was blind as well, I was definitely doubtful. After looking at the paintings (and a YouTube video) I think that Esref Armagan is talented, but someone must be helping him. All of his paintings have a unique mix of colors and if he’s never seen the colors themselves or how the colors are applied in art, how could his paintings have such a balance of color?

I think that synaesthesia is neither a gift nor a curse. Depending on the disease, a person can see it as a good thing, a bad thing, or they just learn to live with it. It all depends on your outlook. Personally, I don’t think I would mind either way. For purposes of studying, I think that it would be better to be a ‘normal’ kid. Although it sounds like it has some benefits, couldn’t the colors and shapes also be distracting.

E= light blue
B= light orange
D= brown

1. I think that Esref Armagan’s gallery of paintings is amazing!!
I do believe he is the real deal, I mean look at those awesome paintings! I think he is blessed but for being blind he can sure paint in the lines. I know he can feel the painting but still. But he is defiantly blessed.
2. Well I think that synaesthesia is a gift. Everybody is unique in their own way and to have this is a part of you. Well I’m not saying that having this synaesthesia is a better or worse thing that being normal. You are what you are.
3. Favorite Number- 8- purple

1. Like a few others, I too wish that Esref Armagan is the real deal. I don't think that he is blessed by a god or another force, rather, he has overcome some obstacles. It is very ironic that a blind person could be an artist for a living. I'll give him credit for being a blind painter, but I think that without his assistants, he would have never accomplished what he is known for today.

2. I think synaesthesia is a gift and a curse. It's a gift because having it deems you unique, and you'll have a special trait that no one else can relate to. For studying purposes, it may be easier to remember words and phrases by remembering chains of colors or hearing certain sounds. It's a curse, however, because you can never experience the five senses "normally". Instead of hearing the beautiful piano in the background, you'll see an array of colors.

3.
25: red
V: purple
L: yellow

1. I think that Esref Armagan is probably a scam. I just don't see how he could possibly know what some of these things look like. Perhaps he was born with sight but became blind and he remembered what some things looked like.

2. I think that synaesthesia is most likely a gift for most people. For studying purposes, I think it would be better than a normal kid. They could have another way of remembering things through the colors that they associate with numbers or letters.

3: 2=blue

I think that this guy is not the real deal because he has never seen the world, so how would he know what a cat looks like or watermelons or musical notes. Unless, his mother and father gave him visual context clues, like telling him what a watermelon and musical notes look like. But, it is still hard to believe that a blind guy painted them because how does he know that he is drawing and painting on the canvas and using the right color schemes and shades. I do, but I do not believe that this was a scam between friends and family.

I think that this might be a gift because if you can hear colors as numbers, then you must be gifted. Also, I think that he might be cursed because it you can hear colors, then you have a big problem. I think that he might have a talent, but a big problem at the same time.

1- light blue
3- orange
6- dark blue
19- medium blue
j- yellow
m- green
s- black and red

Considering that he has never seen the world I don't believe that this could be possible. I don't even think someone would be able to describe something like that and you would be able to pull that type of thing off. I believe that his family is most definitely either pretending that he is blind or that he is making the paintings when in actuality he is not. I would consider it to be a gift. I think that that would make life a lot easier, not only for studying purposes. Having synaethesia would definitely make a really cool experience in life. It would also give you a much different outlook to life. My favorite number is 317537 (I'm not crazy, it just spells my name in a calculator)and I think that 317537 would be a sky blue color to me. My initials (LML) would probably look like hot pink- light green- hot pink.

1. I really do think that this man is completing his own artwork and that he really does have synaesthesia, but I do not think that he has a really special talent. I think that this man has a wonderful perception of shape and size, and that possibly somebody helps him choose certain colors to use for certain things or he has each color on his pallate coded with a certain texture so as to know which colors to choose.

2. I think that this is neither curse nor blessing. It's basically a system of senses, quite like ours, except it is not used universally. If our system of sense was inverted so that the majority of people heard smells or felt sound and the people with this "disorder" heard sound and felt texture, we would be asking ourselves the same questions.

3. The colors I associate with my favorite number are pink and white. The letters that make up my initials are L (yellow) and C (black).

I think Armagan has a gift of seeing colors in another way than through his eyes. His other senses must be very effective in order for him to have the essence of the world around him. As others have pointed out, it is very likely that he might have had assistance from others, but his brush strokes are his own and the mood of the paintings come from within him. He is the only one who is telling himself what and how to paint something, and external assistance doesn't change how his paintings reflect his inner self.
2. I think that this "disorder" is a blessing. People constantly strive to "see" the world in another way than everyone else. The accepted definition of "Normal" isn't always considered a gift. If everyone had this "disorder", everyone would be thinking differently--which is what happens anyways with "normal people" now. If everyone were to have this disorder, then it would end up being the same as if everyone were normal.
3. I associate 7 with green
R is red
D is green

1. I think that he thought of what he was going to draw but had others pick the colors. Just because a person is blind does not mean that they can't draw. A person's mind and mood can do anything it wants.

2. I don't think its a curse. What is normal anyway? The person has a gift that is unique to them.

3. 9- red

J- blue
K-green
D- yellow

I believe Esref Armagan is real and that he was "blessed" to be a synaesthete. His work is widely regarded as a miracle by many and I could not find a websites questioning his authenticity. I feel that any blindness or debilitating condition is not a blessing, although I feel he is lucky to be famous through his efforts, despite his condition.

I feel that synaesthesia simply a condition that would have no major impact on your life, positive or negative. For a synaesthete, their extended color, sound, touch... associations would simply be a part of their everyday lives, however, they might possess a different view of the world and their surroundings, which is why a condition such as this may seem appealing to others.

21 - (Pink first, white second) R - blue, H - yellow/orange, V - Navy green
(I have a color for every letter of the alphabet and every number)

I believe that maybe his sight is not completely color blind. Some how he can see shades of color. the odds are against him but in life you never know maybe he is blessed. i don't think it's a scam if it was then it wouldn't get this much attention. i don't know much about synaesthesia but it's amazing to be able to hear sound. hear something that people can only see and fully understand the beauty of color to a different level. I think it would only be a curse if you cold only hear the sounds but see it them. it would be amazing to have both. i associate the color gold and yellow with 21 and red with 1.

1) Of course i think he is the real deal, maybe thats me though. I would really hate to think of something like this to be a scam, because really, thats stupid, and the very thought would just anger me, so, im just going to beieve he is blessed. Many people can do amazing, extraordinary things, so i most certainly believe Esref can too :)

I don't really think it would be a 'gift' but i'm sure if i had it, i would try and look at it as optomisticly as possible .. but, i guess, from a standpoint from afar, yes i think its a curse. I would want to see the world the way it was 'suppose' to be seen, not in an altered way. Don't get me wrong, if i had it, i would work with what i had, and see the world they way god intended for me to see it, but i don't think that i would necessairly chose to have it.

8 blue
J orange
E green

Yes, I think he is the real deal. As we have discussed in class, there are many things that can go wrong during the development of a human. Several things can go wrong during mitosis, meosis and other cellular processes. So, it is perfectly believeable that something in his brain that causes this condition. I think that it is both a blessing and a curse. It can make you see the world in a whole new way; cause you to see beauty in things that no one else can. IT can be a curse because it is not something most people can relate to, and you would probably learn and remember things differntly than everyone else. I think ti would be better than being "normal." For example, i think it would be amazingly useful and cool to see numbers in everytihng, it would make me function almost like a computer.
3)I dont associate any colors with numbers. However, i tend to see a red toy wrench whenever i think of the word september
V-Red
M-Brown

1. I'm not sure if i think that Ersef is the 'real deal' or not. His pictures are not extremely complicated, or beautiful or anything, but for someone who has been blind his whole life... I don't know. He has never seen the flowers, or animal, or landscapes he paints. How could he possibly have any idea what they look like.
2. I think that synaesthesia is a curse. Well maybe not a curse, but definitely not a blessing. I think that it is very interesting however. But it seems a shame, that someone would never be able to experience normal senses.
3. 15-red

1) I would probably go with the idea that Esref is blessed. Trying to pass off the idea that your blind, and a painter would be a pretty big scandal to pull off. There should've been many skeptics, that would test him, and if they found anything it would be revealed. Since that hasn't been shown I'd say he is the real deal.

2)Personally I would think of it as a curse. Reason being is that the handicap on a sense is not replaceable by feeling it through another. You can never get the true feeling of it. I would go with being a normal kid, than having synaethesia. This so called "special" ability would not even tempt me in the least to have it.

1. I think that this is real, but I wouldn’t call him a hero. Maybe he is just gifted. I don’t believe that its one of his family members. I think that he may truly see these images the imagination is a strong thing.

2.I think syneaesthesia is neither a gift or a curse. I think it is just a phenomena. It is very interesting though and I would love to learn more about it. I don’t think that there is any difference from a normal kid it’s just how you look at it.

3. I associate orange with my favorite number 3 and I associate purple with my initial A and green with my initial G.

1) I think Esref Armagan is the real deal. I think somebody is probably helping him pick colors and stuff like that, but I think he is doing the actual painting by himself. There are some abstract features that come from having an imagination and being unable to see things. I think he is not scaming anybody.
2) I think synaesthesia is a gift. I just did a little research on it and found that most people that have it describe it as pleasant or neutral. A lot of people thought that everyone had senses like them. That makes it hard to see it as a curse. When it comes to studying, it could be very helpful. If you see letters as colors, it would be easy to learn to spell because words would look different when they had letters in the wrong color. This could also help with learning vocab. I think it could be much better than a "normal" kid.
3) 9 - blue
S - light purple
Q - yellow
M - red

1) i think he is for real. i dont think someone could or would lie about something like that. i mean why would you? i think his paintings are very good considering. i think he is either actually blind and just a good painter or a realllly good liar.

2) i think synaesthesia is a gift. i think it would be a good thing to be able to think differently than others. it could get you a lot of jobs in design or art. i would say it would be better worst to have synaesthesia i just think it would be different.

1)I think Esref is real. He might be "blessed" in a sense, but I do think he has some kind of help. However, he might be able to paint because he is able to see through touch if Synesthesia is true.

2)I guess that depends. It can be a curse to some, but a gift to others. For studying purposes, I would see it as a curse because the likelihood that you will have an advantage over a normal kid is slim. Unless you can somehow see through sight like Esref, there might be a disadvantage. Seeing colors through numbers may also bring issues in math.

3)My favorite number is 10 and I associate it with a darkish blue. I also associate both Vs as a blue as well.

1. I think that Esref Armagan is real. Even though he is blind, is he has synaesthesia, which means he uses his other senses to "see" the same things as us. Also, his paintings aren't very realistic, more impressionist, which means that they aren't meticulously neat and slightly unreal.

2. I think synaesthesia is a gift and a curse. It can help you sense the world in a different way, but can limit your possibilities to a certain degree. For studying purposes, I think it would be a bit challenging to understand all the material given.
