Darwin based his theory of evolution on finches in the Galapagos islands. There were 14 different species there and he thought that they all developed from the same species. He used his theory of natral selection.

Natural Selection is the process by which specied evolve over time. Individuals inherit traits or genes from their parents, or individual variation. Due to variation a species allows itself to live longer and survive by passing on the traits to the next generation.

Humans are creating problems in the environment that causes survival of the fittest. Humans pollute ponds causing fish that can not handle the pollutants to die and the fish that can live. We create situations in which organisms have to fight to live, that are not natural.

The "guy's" name was Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and he introduced the theory of spontaneous generation. Spontaneous geneeration stated that first there was nothing, and then all of a sudden, there are living organisms. An example is leaving a dirty shirt on the hay in a barn for a while and then suddenly, mice would appear; or maggots coming from raw meat. Many people and scientists believed in this theory back then and some people still believe it is true.

Darwin's finches represented natural selection because their beaks had to do a lot with what their environment was. Over time the functions the beaks were used for changed and in return their beaks evolved. Directly, the changes in the beaks had to do with the changes in the food they were eating.

Industrial melanism is when over time the genetic differences between groups in different environments become apparent. It occurs in a species called the peppered moth. It has become more frequent since the beginning of the industrial age. The peppered moth had a light appearance so it was more noticeable against the sooty buildings. This made it easier for predators of the peppered moth to see it. The peppered moth than became a darker color due to mutations which made it hard for its predators to find again.

Basically, micro evolution by definition, is the occurrence of small-scale changes in allele frequencies in a population, over a few generations of time. What pretty much happens is evolution on a small scale. Mutations, migrations, genetic drifts, and natural selection are all phenomenon that can cause micro evolution to occur. Contrasting this process is another process called macro evolution.

Speciation is the process where a new species comes into existence.
Many times, geographic isolation occurs where a population is divided by a natural barrier (mountain/desert/river) caused by a natural disaster. This causes specific species to become isolated and eventually each group of species will become adapted to its specific environment. Also, species may become accidentally introduced into a new environment.

We know about evolution because in the fossil record, there are many fossils documenting a clear trend from one species to transition species to another species. Some evidence includes transition fossils such as the one recently discovered named Ida.

Adaptive traits are favorable characteristics that benefit organisms in their habitats. With natural selection, good traits will pass off to the offspring and the the later generations. Adaptation is the evolutionary process of an organism that becomes better suited for their environment. Adaptations allow an organism to survive. Without adaptations, many organisms will lose to competition.
Camouflage is an excellent adaptive trait. For example, a white rabbit could blend easily in snow. Also, echolocation of bats helps them find their prey.

Genetic shuffling is the mixing of genes to create new genetic cominations. There are so many possible combinations of genes because of the endless options of combinaitons. When organisms reproduce sexually, crossing over occurs creating variation.

Genetic shuffling is when there is a possibility to get different genes from each parent. For example, I have my mom's eye color but my dad's nose. There are so many possible combinations because of recombination.

Crossing over is the rearranging of alleles in a chromosome. This is connected to evolution because it helps create biodiversity. Since the chromosomes in the gamete aren’t identical (because it is sexual reproduction) they need to cross over. During synopsis in meiosis parts of the homologous chromosomes can be interchanged. If these segments of chromosomes carry different alleles it results in a new gene combination.

There are several possible outcomes of evolution. Adaptations to an environment, changes in body structure, new organs, and several other things can result as a result of evolution. These changes are usually gradual, and can take thousands of years to occur.
