The parts of the brain consist of the:

Cerebrum: This contains an extraordinary amount of neurons. The cerebrum is divided in half by the cerebral fission. The right side controls the left side of cerebrum controls imagination and 3-D images. The left side of the cerebrum controls numbering skills, posture and reasoning.

Cerebellum: The cerebellum controls posture, balance and coordination. High level functions take place within the cerebellum. The brain stem is located underneath this structure.

Brain Stem: This connects the spinal cord. This is part of the brain where vital functions occur. The lowest part of the brain is located in the brain stem, the Medulla Oblangata.

Medulla Oblangata: This is the middle of the brain and controls breathing. Directly above the medulla are PONS.

PONS: They are a band of nerves connecting the Cerebrum, Cerebellum and the Brain Stem.

Some biotic factors of the sahara desert are animals and plants .. pretty much anything that is living.


List all of the different ways of locomotion, for the paramecium amoeba, and euglena.

The paramecium moves by beating its cilia forcing it through the water. It can move forward, backward or at diagonals.

The amoeba is a pseudopod, which means false foot. The amoeba extends its endoplasm creating the "foot" which it then uses to pull itself along in the water.

The Euglena can use their long flagellum, which whips back and forth and propels if forward. The flagellum is sometimes called a prellicle. The pellicle lies just next to the cell membrane causing the euglena to "wiggle". Its "wiggling" motion can also be used to move the euglena.

Briefly describe the difference between animal cells and plant cells.

Animal and plant cells are both similar and different.

Plant cells have chloroplasts and cell walls. They are the square shaped.

Animal cells do not have cell walls. Instead they have plasma membranes. They also have centrioles.

What is the function of the small insestine?

The small intestine absorbs the nutrients into the blood stream. It also absorbs the majority of the water and electrolytes. The villi absorb the things mentioned above.

Give three similarities and three differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

Although Aerobic and Anaerobic respiration are very different, they basically have the same purpose.

Aerobic respiration uses oxygen while Anaerobic respiration does not.

They both use 2ATPs.

Aerobic respiration makes 38 ATPs while Anaerobic respiration makes 4 ATPs.

Aerobic respiraton has a net gain of 36 ATPs while anaerobic respiration has a net gain of 2 ATPs.

They both use enzymes.

Aerobic respiration produces CO2, H20, and ATP.
Anaerobic respiration produces ATP + lactic acid, or CO2 + alcohol.

Aerobic respiration is performed by animals, plants, fungus, and protists.

Anaerobic respiration is performed by bacteria, muscle cells, and yeast.

There is one kind of Aerobic respiration, while there are two kinds of anaerobic respiration; lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation.

They both require a thin, moist membrane that is in contact with the transport system,in order to function.

The Three types of muscle in the human body are:
1. Cardiac muscle which only exists in the heart and it contracts to squeeze blood out of the heart and relaxes to fill the heart up with blood.
2. Smooth muscle which is found in the walls of hollow organs. It contracts to move food through your intestines, in the bladder they contract to expel urine from the body, and they are also the muscles that shrink the size of your pupil.
3. Skeletal muscle is attached to bones and is pretty much responsible for all body movement.

Photosynthesis is the convesion of light energy to chemical energy and food in the cell's chloroplasts. Plants and various other organisms such as some protists with chloroplasts carry out photosynthesis.

What are the parts of the blood and their functions?
 
The parts of the blood are red blood cells white blood cells and platelets. red blood cells are created in the bone marrow. white blood cells are continually on the lookout for signs of disease. platelets are irregularly shaped colorless things that are present in blood. Their sticky surface lets them along with other substances form clots to stop bleeding.

What is the funtion of the bladder and what oes it produce?

The bladder is a muscular organ that collects urine from the kidneys (ureter), later disposing of it out of the urethra. It does not produce anything.

Another name for ductlesss glands are endocrine glands. The glands are the pitutiary gland, pineal gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid, thymus, hypothalamus, pancreas, and the adrenal glands. The prostaglandins are part of the endocrine system but they aren't really glands.

Describe the path taken through a nephron.

The nephron is located in the kidney. It begins at Bowman's capsule and the glomerulus. From there it moves down until it reaches the Loop of Henle. It keeps moving along until it reaches the distal convulated tubule. Finally it reaches the collecting duct. Throughout this entire process there is a capillary network.

Please describe the difference between blood and plasma.

Blood is a fluid tissue. It carries the necessary substances that cells need; it carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells, and collects wastes from the cells. We have six liters of blood, which is 55% liquid and 45% cell. The liquid is what we call plasma.

Plasma suspends the cells, the erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and platelets. Plasma is NOT the cell itself. It also circulates dissolved nutrients such as glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids; it can remove waste products like urea, carbon dioxide, and lactic acid.

In a lengthy paragraph, describe cellular respiration (aerobic respiration). Make sure you use certain key terms such as "the Krebs Cycle", "final electron acceptor", and "NAD and FAD". Also include the gross number of ATPS and the net gain of ATPS. You may use this website for assistance, but it may be better to use your biology notes.
 
Okay, here we go!

In the last steps of glycolysis, 2ATP and 2NADPH are produced. Pyruvate, the end-product of glycolysis, passes through the mitochondrial membrane and enters the Krebs Cycle. The Krebs Cycle is basically organic molecules being recycled in a loop of chemical reactions. During this, NADH2 and FADH2 are picked up and loose hydrogen bonds are thrown out. The NADH2 and FADH2 are turned into ATP in the electron transport chain, which comes next. As the 2NADH goes down the chain, it ends up as O2, or oxygen, which is the final electron acceptor. This oxygen bonds with the hydrogen and creates H2O, water. The end product is a total of 34 ATP molecules.

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants and some algae convert light energy into sugar for the plant to survive. It takes place in the leaves. During the light reaction, light is converted into chemical energy and ATP is formed. During the dark reaction, CO2 and energy from ATP are used to form sugar.

What are hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic solutions and what can happen to a cell in each solution?
If you’re in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights?
 
1. Hypertonic solutions have a high concentration of solute relative to another solution. The cell will lose water when it is placed in this type of solution.

2. Isotonic solutions contain the same concentration of solute as an another solution. The water diffuses in and out of the cell at the same pace in this situation.

3. Hypotonic solutions contain a low concentration of solute relative to another solution. Too much water diffuses into the cell and it explodes.

Genetics is the passing of traits from parent to offspring. The egg and sperm unite to from a zygote. The father of Genetics is known as Gregor Mendel. Meiosis is a process that the cells undergo. All of these different traits mix and therefore variation occurs. Variation is the key for uniqueness. Genes are either dominant or recessive. “R” would be dominant and “r” would be recessive. Punnett Squares are used to check the sex of the child, check for diseases and other disfunctions. The genotype and phenotypes are the result. The phenotype is the visual trait for an organism and the genotype is the percentages or ratios.

Mitosis and meosis are differnt because mitosis is when a eukaryote duplicates its chromosomes and produces two daughter cells. Meosis on the other hand is for diploid cells. It only occurs in the gametes of an organism, and the new cells are both haploids.

1) 3 types of Asexual reproduction are Budding, spore formation, and Binary Fission.

A) Budding: The offspring, is formed as an unequal division off of the parent, or it can stay attached to the parent.

B)Spore Formation: spores are produced by organisms, and then sent out to grow and germinate. They are usually made by fungi, algae, and protozoa.

C) Binary Fission: Mitosis divides the nucleuses of these two equal formed cells. This type of reproduction is common in one celled organisms.
