I belive that today's meat industry could significantly harm our planet. The way some people raise and treat their animals is inhumane and should stop. There are other ways to producing meat products and we have enough polution as it is. I am not saying that I am a green freak and global warming is going to kill us all. However, I think it is always important to keep a "green" mindset to prevent any catostrophic events from occuring in the future. We can help to cut down on pollution by taking the actions discussed in the article. These actions do not only cut down on polution, but they are also steps that can help us to become healthier consumers. Eating more organic fruits and vegetables wouldn't hurt the United States. Maybe it would help decrease the amount of malnutritioned and obese Americans. After reading this article, I think we should pay more attention to what we are doing when processing and purchasing food products.
This link shows how some people are taking butchering classes. It is not for the squeamish. I don't think I could bring myself to do this but it is an alternative to modern meat packing. Some people say they want a certain connection to their food. Some say that they didn't like to eat the meat that they didn't have to work for. Some say it is a throw back to when our grandparents and others raised and butchered their own meat. Some animal rights activists have been greatly angered by this process. However, I agree with those who say it was like the older times. This process helps encourage people to butcher their own meat which can influence the modern meat processing industry, for the better.

I think that the meat industy could possibly be harming out planet. Animals should not have to suffer from the harsh treatment of meat industries. There are many alternatives to producing meat which will not cause as much harm to our enviroment. Although I dont think meat industries should be shut down all together, but they should be more aware of their affect on the enviroment. But by eating less meat and dairy products you can decrease the amount of carbon dioxide. Eating healthier may cut down on the pollution and decrease obesity. This article helped me realize that we should all be more aware of how our food is processed.
This article is from the PETA. This link talks about how you can help stop global warming. It explains how greenhouse gasses cause global warming. The article also explains how animal agriculture is a source of methane and nitrous oxide emissions which causes a great majority of global warming. Sir Paul McCartney and Chrissie Hynde, two famous stars, express their oppion on the affect of meat industires on the enviroment. There are also statistics about eating meat and meat industires. You can pledge to be a vegatarian for 30 days and help the enviroment.

As much as I believe that today's meat industry could harm our planet, I feel that global warming is deffinite propaganda to scare everyone. Honestly these things have been going on for years it's not gunna hurt our planet. Even if it is people are still gunna eat meat that's just what we do. Going back to the global warming, it's really just propaganda one minute you hear we are going to have the next ice age and then next they are saying we are in the middle of global warming. It is one or the other it can't be both. This is the government trying to scare all of us. No matter what I am going to eat meat. But i strongly believe people shouldnt treat the animals poorly like they are absolutely nothing.
The Huffington Post had bloggers state their opinion like we are here.As usual most were for the idea of meat undustires causing global warming, but there were a tiny few that don't believe in this idea. David Becker believes that there is no perfect diet for the human body. I agree with this statement. Everybody has different opinions on what is the perfect diet for humans and in some peoples opinions meat is perfectly fine.

I believe that the food industry is more into making money then the health and well being of their buyers. I think the food industry could greatly improve the way they package and prepare food. I don’t think that we should completely abandon meat all together though. Eating meat is a perfectly human part of life and our ancestors have been doing it since the beginning of time. I agree that the mass production of meat might be contributing to global and that it is unnecessary and more meat and foods should be produced organically. Organic food might be more expensive but isn’t it worth a few extra dollars for a healthy body and a cleaner future. Eating meat is not the only contributor to global warming. Many others things have a major affect on global warming. Considering all this I still believe that as a nation we could consume less meat. This would reduce the toxic green-house fumes emitted into the air during the production of that meat. The average amount of meat consumed by the average person is 176 pounds. Eating less meat would also lead to other good things such as lower rate of heart disease and fewer heart attacks. Global warming may be just a myth but I still think that the amount of meat eaten and produced can and should be reduced.
The Philosophie has an article in 2009 about global warming and meat eating and packaging. I found some interesting facts in this article. The FAO found out that the slaughter and the ranching of cows and other animals produce about eighteen percent of total human-induced green-house gas emissions around the global. Farmers are responsible for only a portion of the green-house gas emissions in the food system. The University of Wisconsin and the Soil Association in Britain estimates that just half of foods total greenhouse impact has any connection to farms. All the rest comes from processing, transportation, storage retailing and food prep. We need to get away from this mass-produced, over-consumption-mentality, but in reality, having a steak or burger very now and then won’t do any extreme damage to our environment.

I think that todays way of making meat needs to be changed to help the environment. We are poisoning ourselves in a way with how the meat is being made because of the greenhouse gases we are making. We are in our own way destroying the ozone layer. There are many other ways we can produce meat without poluting the earth. I was never too into producing meat, but now I know how it is made, I am against it being made this way. Also, the population goes way down with the way this meat is being produced.
Yes, I do think that the meat industry can hurt our planet. It can hurt our planet because of the pollution produced by the factories, and that is destroying our ozone layer. It is also harmful because of the bad treatment of animals. When we kill animals it can cause an over population of another animal or insect, which can destroy the harmony among the planet and animals. This can also harm our planet by the packaging the meat is put in, it may not always be recyclable. There are many other ways, we can produce meat that would not harm our planet.

This link is taken care of by the Massachusetts Animal Rights Coalition. This website talks about how the feeding, housing, transport, slaughter, and packaging of animal products require heavy equipment, complex machinery, and massive amounts of energy and water. It also talks about how over 95% of these animals are confined in horrific factory farms. Also how people living near factory farms suffer a wide range of health problems from respiratory problems to permanent brain damage. One of the solutions they have come up with, to stop this is organic or free range meat production.

I eat meat. Plain and simple. However I don't buy it so I really don't know where it comes from. I would, however, prefer that it didn't destroy the Earth. I will try to do my part to help the environment and support "traditional" farms and not "industrial" farms.

This is an article by "The Bovine". this article claims that organic farming is healthier than modern farming. Modern farming is often used in Africa because its cheaper. This is, however causing major malnutrition among the African population. this problem can be solved by using organic farm practices.

I feel the meat industry could hazardously damage our environment. This industry could harm us and the environment by disease and pollution. The animals are treated so badly that it causes bad living conditions that makes them sick. These conditions also affect us and can make us sick because the conditions can led to an infestation of an unknown illness that doctors may not know the cure for. The industry may cause pollution because the factories are releasing harmful gases into the air and most of their packaging may not be able to be recycled. This could cause a garbage build-up.

The meat industry is one of the largest contributors to water pollution. It is also a bigger source of greenhouse-gas issues than all the ways of transportation combined. the industry uses more land then any human activity. This site shows that meat is bad for our land and for us. Therefore this site does not like the way this industry is working.

I think that the way meat is being produced is wrong. I dont really think that it has anything to do with global warming though. It has never really been proven that global warming even exists. However, how we process our foods needs to be changed. The food industry uses disgusting ways to produce our meat and fruits/vegetables, which leads to disease as well as other things. If people change the way they produce our food, and do it like local farmers, it would probably be better for all of us.

This site is created by the Independent Media Institute. What the article is saying is that our method of producing our meat is wrong, but that it doesnt have anything to do with harming the planet. The methods people use to make meat are beyond wrong. They definitely need to be changed. But how can meat production cause global warming? People have blamed everything on global warming but its just getting a little too extreme (to the point where anything people do causes global warming in some way).

I feel that eating meat is ok, just not the meat that is being raised the way most is. The mass-production of animals for meat is harming our planet because all of their waste is piled up in mass amounts in one area, allowing the acids and all that wonderful stuff to sink into the ground. This harms the environment because the "stuff" in the waste is bi-products of growth hormones and other kinds of un-natural items that animals are fed and injected. Those items can seep into water sources and poison the people who drink the water. If that stuff can poison people, what's the difference for other animals and the earth in general? people get sick from it, and the earth can too. this is a health hazard to the earth and to ourselves!
A study proves that meat production has an effect on environmental changes. The article is from enVeg.org. Animals leave the biggest carbon footprint on the earth because there are so many being mass produced. I think that people should do something, and soon, about this, because it can become a huge problem in the near future!!!

There are many things to consider while deciding whether the meat industry is a cause for global warming. Although the production of meat causes methane emissions, that doesn't mean there is no way to avoid producing harmful greenhouse gases. People could give animals organic food for them to eat instead of being fed fertilized crops. Also people could be a little more conservative in how much for they are actually consuming and how much is being wasted. Being a vegetarian is also not a completely outrageous idea also.
Meat and Global Warming
This website proves that meat comsumption reduces global warming. The U.N. Food and Agriculutural Organization(FAO) reports that 18% of greenhouse gas emmisions are created by livestock farming. That may not sound like much, but all greenhouse gas emmisions generated from the whole world's cars, trains, planes, and boats only comes out to 13%. That is kinda of scary that billions of man-made cars and other transportation forms pollute less than what we eat at home almost every day. Rajendra Pachauri, the U.N.'s Nobel Prize–winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, says that if people skip eating meat one day in a week, then it will help our planet survive.

I believe that eating meat is okay. It is part of a balanced, healthful diet (healthful is a word!) I would eat the family farm grown meat to reduce greenhouse gases. The way they treat the animals sounds vicious and inhumane too. I agree that the meat industry polution should be looked into.
This link is about how some people are cutting down on emissions by reducing their consumption of meat. The website promotes family farms. It also has some facinating statistics. The site has information about what is going on in the UK as well. This article was written by Katherine Gustafson from change.org.

To start off, I'm just gunna tell you that I love steak. I don't know if this makes me biased, but I guess thats what blogs are for.
I believe that there is nothing wrong with eating meat. I mean, we ARE part of the food chain right? However, I do think that we should change our views on how we should be producing/manufacturing it. Obviously, we can not revert what we have already done, but we can improve. That not only includes the environment, but the treatment towards the animals too. The harsh treatment towards animals is actually causing harm to the environment.(Karma, deffinately karma.)
Yes, I expect you to click here.

It pretty much tells what is, basically, causing global warming.
This includes things such as manure, cow burps, deforestation, synthetic fertalizer, and burning fossil fuels. As you probably figured out, the website promotes a veggie diet. I'm not completely supporting this; as if all of America must go on without meat. I just think that a little more space for fruits and vegetables in one's diet could keep them healthy and, if it makes you feel good, prevent a teensy-weensy bit of help to the environment.

I believe that today's processed industrial meats are extremely harmful to the health of our environment. However, there is an alternative: grassfed beef. These livestock are not treated with hormones or fed growth-promoting additives. As a result, the animals grow at a natural pace. For these reasons and more, grass-fed animals live low-stress lives and are so healthy there is no reason to treat them with antibiotics or other drugs. These types of farms also greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced as a result of beef "production." Traditional farms in the United States have scant connection to carbon dioxide emissions because they keep their animals outdoors on pastures and make little use of machinery. You, as the consumer, can reduce your methane emissions by seeking out meat from animals raised outdoors on traditional farms, because animals deposit manure in pastures and corrals, instead of lagoons containing liquefied manure at industrial facilities. More than three-quarters of farming’s nitrous oxide emissions result from manmade fertilizers. Thus, you can reduce nitrous oxide emissions by buying meat and dairy products from animals that were not fed fertilized crops — in other words, from animals raised on grass or raised organically.
Additionally, several recent studies show that pasture and grassland areas used for livestock reduce global warming by acting as carbon sinks.
Let's Go Grass Fed!!!
My website is maintained by Jo Robinson and the EatWild organization. When properly managed, raising animals on pasture instead of factory farms is a net benefit to the environment. To begin with, a diet of grazed grass requires much less fossil fuel than a feedlot diet of dried corn and soy. On pasture, grazing animals do their own fertilizing and harvesting. The ground is covered with greens all year round, so it does an excellent job of harvesting solar energy and holding on to top soil and moisture. Livestock who graze on pastures remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere more effectively than any land use, including forestland and ungrazed prairie, helping to slow global warming.
People can buy Grass Fed Beef at Adam's and Mother Earth's!!:D

I think the meat industry is harming our planet. I think if we fed animals different things like organic foods, the environment would benefit a lot. People could also be a little more conservative in how much they are actually eating and how much is being thrown away. I guess if things get to complicated and we can't find a way to eat meat in a good way, we could always become vegetarians. But this is only if we can't find a way to reduce the methane or other greenhouse gases produced while producing meat.

Global warming is the result of our disregard for the Earth while we mindlessly allow industry to meet the demands of the consumer. We have gotten extremely lazy and are abusing the Earth and everything that inhabits it by taking short cuts in manufacturing our food and adding things,to increase shelf life, promote growth etc., that we should not be eating. Yes, I do believe that today's meat industry is taking a toll on the earth, abusing animals, and fooling the consumer with meat that is more artificial that natural. But, also the agricultural industry and the food processing industry are not beds of roses either. They are harming the earth as well and need to be reformed. This is not the consumer's fault (except for creating the demand) but it is their job as well as anybody's to do something about the injustices these powerhouse industries are inflicting on the environment. Boycotting the meat and agriculture industries is not the way to go, but buying from reliable and organic sources will help. Also, to back these actions firmer government regulation needs to take place to shut down factory farms and reduce emissions produced from all of its sources. By regulating the food industry I also believe Americans will ultimately become healthier and the amount of obesity in America will decrease because of the decreased amount of transfats and other artificial ingredients in our processed foods.
How factory farms are fooling you.
This link is from the NRDC (National Resources Defense Council)website.
The NRDC is fighting to take down factory farms and all the pollution and abuse that comes with them. Their main opposition has been with manure and how its handled, which is not very well. Factory farms just discard manure into huge lagoons or spray it excessively over sprayfields. These actions create huge problems for the enironment and people. As the manure decomposes and rots harmful and horrible smelling gases are released. These gases can harm workers and people that live near these factory farms and cause severe health issues. Also, because of the excess of manure, large quantities seep into nearby bodies of water killing aquatic life and polluting the water. Lastly, this site lists options to help reform factory farms which I firmly believe is needed to improve our quality of life and the quality of our environment.

as much as i would like to believe that it is a fable, global warming is real and it is upon us. our blatant disregard for the earth and all her abundancies are inevitably going to be our downfall. i am as much a victim, however, as a cause. frequently ignorant to the err of mine and my family's way, we more often than not choose the options that aren't always necessarily the most "earth-friendly" so to speak. however, we have, most recently, been trying to change that. i just feel like why would we allow such horrible treatment for the animals that are therefore contributing to global warming, when it is easily prevented by other means. in the same respect, not enough people care enough to make the difference because the change may incur a higher expense that people are not will to compensate for. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
find concurrence in my claims. source watch has one of their articles that goes into great detail about the maltreatment of animals. it also says that itcan be avoided through myriad ways just as long as people got on board to do so. it exposes a lot about how baly these animals are kept. however, the PETA, as would be expected, leans heavily to the side of being vegetarian/vegan. while that may be an effective option, it's out of the question for a lot of people, especially myself. i think that we need to come up with other, more effective mechanisms to save our planet, because the way we're currenty dealing with things just ain't cutting it !

The meat industry is destroying and polluting the world we live in today. These days animals shouldn't have to go through such harsh treatments and conditions. In order to stop this people should just feed their animals grass. Be green! I definitley agree that the production of meat is contributing to global warming. I think people should just go green so we can all stop this mayhem and chaos. In order to stop this peolpe should change the way they make meat. Industries are now causing and producing pollution which are releasing harmful gases into the air such as methane emissions. I think we should all take a stand and BE GREEN!!!

I eat meat. However I believe that we can no longer ignore the problem. The large industry factories are polluting the earth with their quantity over quality approach. I think that we should go back to old ways where there were grass fed and the packaging and processing did effect the enviroment so much. But grass fed and small farms cannot compete with the low prices that the large factories produce. I understand that some people connot afford the more expensive meats. So the best option is to boycott any large farms who do not meet the new standards set by the government.

My website is maintained by the StopGlobalWarming organization. I back up what SGW has to say. They think that everyone is responsible for your own actions. They want you to buy local food from the local farms. By doing this you can also keep the local farm in buisness and helping the local economy. They also want people to stop only having only one person in a large SUV. Not only does it add to the traffic it is also a waste of gas and it hurts the enviroment. Also by not buying food that comes fromm the area that is being deforested to create room for the crops. And finally to just to be less energy consuming; turn off lights, turn off water, and use less heating or ac, ect.

I think that the way the meat industry is ran is bad. I also can heard from other people that the industry does harm our planet. I think that we should treat animals with respect and do things like the good old days without all this global warming ideas. We should reduce the about amount of machines that give off greenhouse gases. We should be as green as possible. Also used recyclable product more often. Personally if i had to become a vegetarian i would kill myself. I cant live without meat.

I am an omnivore all the way and i love tacos, cheeseburgers, etc:) but the way the animals are raised could be better and could reduce the bad affects it has on the earth. First, to have minimal machinery helps keep the animals healthy and reduce the green house gases that are hurting the earth. There are several different ways that we could raise these animals to keep them healthy but we have out quantity over quality. However, we can not put all the blame on the "farms" because much of the gases polluting our planet come fro transporting the meat, removing waste, feeding, etc
To be honest I don't believe there is anyway to prevent global warming all together but we can work to help reduce the damage and prevent future damage to the world.
Meat Is A Global Warming Issue
This article is from AlterNet and it basically says that there are many contributors to global warming but the most surprising is the meat industry. It states that the animals we eat emit 21% of CO2 that can be attributed to human activity. It agrees with my statement in the way that we could raise the livestock in many different ways and healthier ways. It also states that cutting down all the rainforest creates a large amount of green house gases.

It agrees with my statement in the way that we could raise the livestock in many different ways and healthier ways. It also states that cutting down all the rainforest creates a large amount of green house gases.
Personally, If not eating meat hepled everyone I probably would stop eating it but I would eat it in "private." I do however agree that animals everywhere are being treated horribly especially the ones that are being killed. For example cows, chickens, pigs, etc.
They are cramped together in samll spaces which isn't healthy for them, because they get sick and die, and for us , because we eat them and get sick and die. I also think that global warming is a bunch of stuff "smart" people put together to get us scared so we treat the earth better. By the way, not working!
This site agrees with me about global warming and how it really doesnt relate to anything to do with meat factories. They also are saying that if global warming was such a big deal where is the press now when tempatures are decreasing again. Is it global cooling now? And does meat packing industries acutally have anything to do with tempatures rising or was it all a coincidence?

"According to a 2006 United Nations report, the raising of livestock for meat consumption is directly responsible for 18 percent of global warming emissions."
Eighteen percent! All the different forms of transportation combined—cars, trucks, trains, ships, and planes—only account for 13 percent! Yes, the above quote is from my linked website, and I must say, when I read that, I was shocked. To think that the raising of livestock for food amounts to more global warming emissions than all combined vehicles do...it seems pretty confusing if you ask me. Why are we focusing more on fixing the car pollution problem then we are about changing the way we process meat? It doesn't seem fair to the animals either. The horrible way animals are treated should be stopped. Businesses that participate in such abusive activities should not be fined - they should be shut down.

The above is an article from the New York Times. The article tells us about how global demand for meat has risen in the past few years, and that the meat supply is going up. The article also states that Americans eat about the same amount of meat as we have for some time, about eight ounces a day, which is roughly twice the global average. At about 5 percent of the world’s population, we “process” (that is, grow and kill) nearly 10 billion animals a year, more than 15 percent of the world’s total. The article brings up a very interesting point in my opinion. It says that
"According to geophysicists Gidon Eschel and Pamela Martin, “If every American reduced meat consumption by just 20%, the greenhouse gas savings would be the same as if we all switched from a normal sedan to a hybrid Prius.”"
I think this is a fantastic idea. It may mean that we would have to eat less meat then we may be used to, but it is a small step in saving the environment that keeps people from having to give up meat entirely. Therefore, everyone is happy.

I Love meat. However, thinking about getting organic meat makes perfect sense, but eating no meat at all onc in a while might seriously help too. I have never thought of it in such a way. At the same time I am little worried about the destiny of factory raised beef business, if everybody is turning to farm raised meat. But, it makes me happy thinking about a better future of our universe. Anyway to cut down global warming we must urge everybody to use more farm raised meat if this is really true. So let's go organic.
This site completely agrees with my opinion. It says that all meat is not the same. It also says that the wastes which are otherwise thrown into lagoons become great manure in this way. However, by the end, it says that it would be good to have a meatless day per week, but have grass-fed meat on the other days. So altogether, the point is, to stop using the factory made meat and to eat grass fed meat instead.

I as a proud meat eater am willing to admit that the meat industry does have its flaws. I beleive it does contribute to the global warming situation. There are other industries that harm the enviroment in much worse ways than the meat industry does. I understand the conditions of the poor animals before they are slaughtered and do not support it. I feel that the meat industries care more about our money than our health or the welfare of the animals they are killing. I feel meat is a big part of the way civilization is now as well as people today. I mean we are basicly a big inteligent peice of meat. I do feel the meat industry is sometimes portrayed in a bad light.
This article from the Washington Post defends the meat industry. It is not as responcible as many peopel say it is. It says that the carbon emmissions have remained the same while while the meat and dairy industries have increased production. This sais a little bit about the connection between the two. Although i do feel buying from a local farm is a better source than a multi million dollar meat factory.

The meat industry of today could be rather harmful to our plant. With all the warnings of global warming, which in fact can be a propaganda, the meat industry can be one of the effects of global warming. There are many ways to be a smart meat eater who does not support the modern meat factories. Buying organic shows that the animal was raised on a traditional farm and that you support these farms who do not contribute to global warming because they are "carbon sinks."
Dan Brook wrote an article on how meat is a global warming issue. He suggests that the cows produce millions of tons of carbon dioxide with is a major greenhouse gas. The destructive of forests throughout the world also contributes to global warming. The trees absob the carbon dioxide, but many farmers destory the trees in order to make room in order to grow crops and use more land for heir meat factory.

I believe eating from industrial meat factories can have a serious affect on the planet. There are many other ways to raise animals on a farm that is more natural. I will always eat meat, however i think the meat industries as well as consumers should be more aware of what kind of farm the meat came from. We should also pay attention to buying organic foods instead. Eating organically can help global warming as well as help the obesity problem. Even though feeding the animals and removing their waste in industrial farms isn't the main damage to the environment, it will still help if people eat more naturally.

This page was created by "A Program of Grace". That organization also has the "meatrix" on their page. The page talks about the differences in natural farms and industrial farms in terms of reusing the land and manure. Also some things "you" can do to help such as: by supporting small, sustainable farms you can help reduce the impact of industrial farming and promote the use of environmentally friendly farming methods. Also planting your garden for vegetables can help more and more land to not be used for farming. It even discusses how the methane gasses from industrial farms IS part of global warming and can also effect people living or working nearby. This page and the article had very similar facts.

Today's meat industry can definetely use improvement. It may be harming our planet. There are many ways to produce meat products. The way some people do it is very heartless although I feel it has a minor affect on global warming. I think there are many other things that have a greater affect on global warming. We must change things like the pollution problem before we can overcome global warming.

I honestly don't know what to believe when it comes to today's meat industry and the environment, but I would like to point that many of the ways that the meat industry are treating their animals are inhumane and should be stopped. I do believe that global warming is a growing problem, however the message should not be overtaken by senseless media propaganda. I believe that we should make choices that are both smart and healthy for us and the environment. This link describes different peoples opinion on globa warming.
First off i think that everyone needs to take a stand in cleaning up our planet and making it a healthier enviroment. As for the meat industry, it is hard to know what is the truth and what is a lie. I think that it would be nice if the animals in the meat industry were better cared for and put in a more clean and healthy enviroment. I think that would make a huge difference in our societies health and well being.
Over all it is hard to know what to believe in this day and age, but whatever the truth really is, it would be nice if it could change for the better.
Here is a LINK about global warming, something i didnt touch on.

I think that beef production is a factor in global warming, now. If, we can change the way we raise the for food cattle. This as a whole could make the cows more "earth friendly." I personilty like staek and beef. But, the cows life will affect our world with their bodily funtions. Bill Miller
The aticle by Bill miller is very interesting. Acording a Japanese researcher, 2.2 puonds of beef more carbon dioxide being put out than a car ofter 160 miles. That is a lot of harmful carbon dioxide. His article also says that the Unitied Nations found that the 1.5 billion animals and livestock produce 18 percent of the green house gases. The Lancet medical journal said that if the world reduce the use of red meat by ten percent the Carbon dioxide levels would go down.
