Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. It was to force the issue into the public because it was not talked about a lot in the news or anywhere. People began demonstrating health care of the earth. Earth day has lead to many groups that help protect the nature of our earth. Now many people are also taking part in their roles for the Earth Day celebrations. Many people want to clean the earth and want to focus on other related issues like global warming. Now, the fight for a clean environment still continues.

I can contribute to Earth Day this year by volunteering for groups that help clean the Earth.

earth day was started in 1970 because people weren't concerned enough about the environment. on Apr. 22 1970, millions of people joined together to stress the importance of our world. in 1990 earth day went global and millions of people around the world did the same thing. to day its even more effective. we have the internet and can create hundreds of websites in honor of this topic.

It is an entire day donated to showing the earth some compassion instead of mutilating it the way we typically do.

since earth day is almost over, i can say what i did today, and what i plan to do the rest of the night. I unplugged many things in my room, i picked up garbage on the side of the road when i was walking home from the bus stop, i plan to eat a tv - free dinner, as to not waste electricity, and if there is time between homework, practicing music, and dinner, i will try to plant some shrubs on my front yard.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 by a man by the name of Gaylord Nelson, a senator from Michigan. At the time, Americans were very unconscious of the environment; driving gas-guzzling v-8s while factories belched out smoke and other greenhouse contributing emissions. Groups that had been fighting against oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife suddenly realized they shared common values came together and organized first nationwide protest the deterioration of the environment. Sen. Nelson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role as Earth Day founder. In 1990, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and elevating the status of environmental issues on to the world stage. For Earth Day this year, I turned the water off while I was brushing my teeth and turned off my computer when I wasn't using it.

How knew that Earth Day had such a history. I didn't know that it was a government idea. I also didn't know that Earth Day didn't come to be until the 1970s. This is another thing that the government started that everyone should have been going since the start. I for one recycle as much as I humanly can. The evnvironmental protection agency was also formed and clean air, clean water and the endangered species act were also passed. In 1990 the world got involved with earth day. 141 countries participated in earth day 1990. In 2000, the internet helped unite a record 184 countries. Around 5,000 environmental groups were involved. It sent a message that people around the world wanted a better environment.

It was started like one of those modern day tree-hugger movements, however, later it gave rise to many modern day organisations and everything that goes with it. Nowadays, due to earth day, there is lot more people who care about there environment and are taking measures to get rid of the problems.

In April, 1970, many Americans participated in the first Earth Day. They filled the streets, to help clean up and show appreciation toward the earth. From this day on agencies and campaigns began in effort to protect and care for the environment. Denis Hayes started a campaign to push for clean energy and focus on global warming. In 2000 the internet spread the idea of the effort to take care of the environment. To this day, the goal for a clean environment continues.

I can take part in Earth Day this year by informing people about global warming and our effect on the environment by posting fliers or just have a conversation about it with someone.
