I think that drilling for natural gas on our coast is a good thing. It will lessen our dependency on foreign oil. Drilling off the coast will also be another step toward a greener nation and healthier environment. Offshore drilling can provide cheaper energy. This project will provide vital jobs too. My act is to raise awareness of this alternative of expensive foreign oil. Convincing other people that offshore drilling would be a helpful alternative would inform many people who don't know about it. I think that raising awareness of this idea would be beneficial to the country.

I feel like drilling for the natural gas is a good thing, because it's something that we are in desperate need of. Also, if it's going to help kickstart the economy, and add jobs for Americans, then I think it's an awesome idea. Anything that we can do to get this economy going to ensure jobs for our posterity and ourselves is encouraged. I don't find this unethical or wrong in any way except for the minor detail of Barack Obama's sudden change of mind. If he could sit there and preach about 'green' options and then take a 180 like that, who's to say that he won't do it again on something perhaps more drastic? At any rate, I feel like this is a great idea that has exceptional potential. Something that I could do to get this 'show on the road' would be to establish a massive petition or do some kind of fundrasing option to donate to this cause. For example, some websites will let you donate right on the page. It's easy and convenient, and basically, i would need my parents for one ste. I would fund raise for this cause, then have my mom deposit the earnings and pay the difference with her card. it's a small step, but it's a step, regardless, in the right direction.

We already have enough oil in this country and we do not need to break the earth so to speak just cuz we can. But it should be done because then we do not depend on foreign countries for oil. Also, offshore drilling gives many people the oppurtunity for jobs. It is a well paid job that is not boring. Many people will be hired and less people will be out of business which is another reason the President did this.

Something I can do to make sure my wishes are acted upon is maybe go visit the president. Set up the appointment and maybe talk to him, maybe he will listen to you. Another thing you could do is start a fundraiser in school to raise money for something you want done and get a bunch of people together to do something, just be pro active and help.

Obama's "green" campaign, and the first disapproving and then approving of the drilling is very controversial. I think that it shows that he actually did have to consider what was best for the U.S. right now and acted on it. In my opinion, drilling explorations on the coastlines for oil and natural gasses is a good thing. It lessens our dependency and also gives jobs to lots of Americans recovering from the recent recession! The more resources we have, and the more care we take of it, it could really help. If I was very into this idea, and decided to do something about it, I would make a sign. A BIG sign. Then I'd go somewhere where a lot of cars passed by (safely) and ask them to honk if for support, or at least raise awesness.

I agree with President Obama's decision to pursue offshore drillings at least for the time being with the lagging economy. This policy will help to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and bring back industry and thousands of jobs to America. Although pursuing this policy may cause damage to some marine ecosystems, I feel it is still right to proceed because most ecosystems will not be harmed and I believe this will lead to a transition to more renewable resources which in the long run will alleviate stresses on the environment. So, this is a good temporary solution to help bring about the change to "greener" energies but I feel that biofuels, natural gas, and other energy alternatives should be supported and pursued so that Americans can see their value. These alternative energy sources are the future and will not only help us financially and make us independent of foreign oil but are also more environmentally friendly.

I can as a young adult educate myself on off-shore drilling, biofuels and other energy alternatives so that I can spread the word and support of Obama's policy. Also, I can invest in corporation stocks like Verenium that are developing biofuels and alternate energy sources. This would directly support the corporations' efforts to advance the development of alternative green energy sources.
 

There are many things to consider before reaching a verdict on Obama's offshore drill proposition. First, the amount of oil in the world is finite. If we keep drilling, we are just pushing the problem of low fuel levels and few alternatives to later generations. I think it is smart that Obama is leaving some areas restricted for reserves, just in case. I don't believe that drilling is a "green" option. Green options would be investing money within alternate options for fuel, like hydrogen. I think that Obama will reach his goal with Congress because it is the ethical thing to do within our inflated society. At least this drilling would produce some benefits. The price of gasoline would reduce due to the surplus of fuel. We wouldn't have to depend on the Middle East to give fuel at a higher price. I believe that this is intended to be a short-term solution to the recent crisis in our economy. I believe this will lead to future problems, but its better than pay $3.00 for gas.
My Perspective
There are many ways to lead our country in the right direction, other than writing a "letter." I will boycott fossil fuels and switch to alternate methods. Such as buying a hybrid car, which doesn't completely run on electricity, but is better than a normal car. You also can choose to walk, if your determined.

This could be a cheaper way to fuel our houses, cars, etc. However, I think that by putting too much emphasis on this, we sort of limit ourselves to looking for alternative fuels. I think that Obama's plan is good for the economy. More resources, more jobs and less cost for oil. I also agree with RICCCKKKKYYYYY that we shouldn't be breaking the Earth to get oil. Natural resources don't last forever. Use what we have now and save how much is left in the Earth for when we run out. Plus, it'll cut down the trade with the oil providing countries. The countries that depends on the trade of oil would face difficulty. It is a tough decision to make but if i were to help, I would spread awareness and collect the opinions of the people.

Drilling off the coast of our nation is a smart idea. It will make us less dependant on foreign oil and there will be more of a supply for us if something happened with the oil trading. Also, Obama's decision to drill of our coasts will bring more job to individuals who are in need of a job because of this bad economy. In the effort to go green, there should be solar panels to help run the drills. They should also use some rcycled materials to help build the drills. To convince that off shore drilling is a postive for the United States would be to advertize the good of it and to make the bunk of the nation aware of the good idea.

I think that drilling for natural gass off our coast is a good thing. Our country is still in a recession so getting more natural gas will stop the need for foreign oil. We might be even able to make a profit off of it by selling it to other countries who are in the same situation as us. One thing I can do is start my own offshore oil drilling company and help extract the oil. Not really I might do an article in the local newspaper about it.
 

I believe that offshore drilling is a good thing. First of all, we will be less dependent on oil from the middle east. Transporting the oil itself would be less of a struggle. We wouldn't have the expense of purchasing oil from the middle east. And, this offers many job opportunities which are needed, especially during 2012. Offshore drilling is also beneficial to the environment. This website talks about the benefits of offshore drilling regarding the environment. However, offshore drilling is harmful to the ocean floor and some of it's inhabitants.

One way to help the idea of offshore drilling is to gain support from my school. Get student governments and principals of other schools in the district as well. We could all organize a fundraiser, or put together a cheap advertisement to put on t.v.
 

I don't agree with obama's plan about offshore drilling... i think that we should look into more alternative methods for energy instead of oil. there is too much oil use for my likings, so i don't think there should be an effort to find more oil. eventually the earth will not have any oil left, and then what will we do? we are only thinking about now, and not preparing ourselves for the fact that eventually, there will be no more oil. If we don't look into another type of energy that doesn't need oil, we will be in very bad circumstances when the time comes. Besides, hasn't the earth suffered enough from our existence on it? do we really need to destroy some of the coast of our nation just to get oil? If we had started looking for other sources of energy a long time ago, then we wouldn't have to worry about drilling for more oil, so i think it's about time we start trying to find something else to take the place of oil's necessity.

I would join an environmentalist group that is against drilling and attend multiple protests against oil drilling. there are more than enough people in this country against this decision to make a statement about it.

I do think that drilling for natural gas on our coast is a great thing. It will help solve major problems that we already have and eliminate others. Since practically everyone wants to live in a greener place this would help a lot. This is something that we need and should do. Since many are already out of jobs this would help increase the number of jobs available. I don't think that there is anything wrong with this. I think that this is a great idea.

I agree with the President's decision to do offshore drillings at least until this country gets itself back into shape. With this policy thousands of jobs will be open for amerians and we will be less dependent on foreign oil. This policy no doubt will cause damage to the seas' marine ecosystems, I think we should still be able to do this because we need it really bad for our country. I think that biofuels, natural gas, and other energy alternatives should be supported and pursued so that Americans can see their value. These alternative energy sources are the future and will not only help us financially and make us independent of foreign oil.


My decisions and the way I want things.
To help the world, I think instead of using Fossil fuels to do things, we should like do stuff like ride a bike instead of riding in a car. Fossil fuels create acid rain and we don't want that. I could walk if i wanted to even though i won't. But if walking and riding a bike is better then riding in a car, instead how about getting a car that doesn't run on fossil fuels or one of those new cars that run on water(don't know if it's true)
 

I believe that offshore drilling is a bad idea and I am totally against it. First off, scientists are not even sure as to how much oil is present in the proposed drilling sites and many scientists estimate that there is very little if any at all. Also many politicains acknowlege that it will be another 10 years before the first drops of offshore oil will actually start entering into the economy. This is a long wait and the same efforts could be used to start greener alternatives to oil which is a major global warming contributer. Obama has long called for an increased focus on “green” energy initiatives and sought to curtail heat-trapping gas emissions that this kind of industry would create. He literally changed his entire policy and this is very upsetting. I realize that the economy needs a jumpstart; but there are other was to jumpstart the economy than to create more problems for future generations. Although drilling may create jobs, the flipside is the effect it will have on the ocean which is a major tourist attraction. If the waters aren't clean, there will not be any tourists and therefore people employed in tourism may lose their job.

In hopes that my wishes to say no to offshore drilling are acted upon, I would call a convention where many powerful government figures and scientists are present and it should be open to the public as well. I believe that people need to know the cold hard truth that this endeavor is not only risky, it's incredibly bad for the environment.

I think that Obama should make up his mind. Yes the drilling for natural gas is a good thing to me and it will help the economy. But at the same time, people are trying to use "greener" ways of fuel and this could be a setback. In addiction we have to use more money to try to get this gas and the greener fuel is being used successfully. I think that as a country we should stay with "greener" fuel that is not NAtural gas somewhere under the sea. One way that I could have is by not using the natural gas fuel being drilled.

I think this is a good idea. An extravagant amount of oil is drilled in foreign countries and drilling more in the U.S. would hopefully lower the prices of oil. With such an extreme intake of these natural gases the present oil sites will soon "run dry." Opening these drilling sites could provide a profound amount of jobs and possible help turn the economy around. Drilling oil is a necessary action for the U.S. to take considering our intake of oil.

My action to help my cause would be to raise awareness and money to donate to pro drilling organizations. I would do school fundraisers and other ones to raise money. I would donate the money to Common Dreams. this website helps fund oil drilling.

I think this was a good idea because our economy doesn't look so great right now. This could cause a lot of high paying jobs in the United States It's not like we are asking other countries for oil or we are drilling in other countries. I think that the president is making a good idea. It costs a lot more money to get all our oil from the middle east, and the country really doesnt have a lot to spend right now. Offshore drilling would also make a lot more jobs that pay well, this could help the unemployed people. I dont think we should rely on oil forever because eventually its going to run out. We should be looking for alternative fuels as well as looking for more oil so we can have a good backup plan, incase the drilling doesnt work.

I think that positive and negative outcome can come out of drilling. The positive is that we could possibly find alternatives to oil and lower the dependancy we have on foreign oil.
